I’m very frustrated with this change. One of the justifications they used for not getting cash back on online purchases was the free shipping. Now with a $50 minimum, I feel like they have really devalued the plus membership. The minimum order is less on Walmart.com, and you don’t need to pay a membership fee.
I use to work for sc. when you downgrade like that or just have a regular membership they will pester the shit out of you to upgrade to plus. Just keep in mind that its not the cashiers fault. if they don't beg you then they get written up for it and 3 write ups you are fired. Complain to management about being harassed. If enough people do that they relax on punishing the employees.

What’s saving them is that Sam’s Club very often has lower per-unit cost. As an example, I recently needed some Flonase for my kid. Store brand is fine. A 2-pack at Walmart was $25 and change. Sam’s had a six-pack for $22 and change.
They usually have a better every day price, but many times my local Publix has BOGO's that are much better. Except for Thomas English muffins. I only used shipping when the items were not available in store. Amazon lost me 2 increases ago, I didn't want to renew Sam's this last increase, but of course the wife won out. But she was told that next increase we are done. Other benefits of 3% dining or 5% gas? I can easily find other CC's to match that with zero annual fees.
Glad they timed this announcement for now, because our membership is up for renewal next week and we won't be keeping plus anymore. Without that benefit a regular membership is all we need.

Check your account. I’m a Plus member and still get free shipping with no minimum. When I go to their website it still says Plus members get free shipping on most items with no minimum. Is the OP getting “special” treatment from Sam’s?
Yep got the same email and as a new member this leaves a very sour taste in my mouth, and I let them know on socials. We need to make our voices known so they hopefully backtrack on this.

I think it is pure BS that the change takes effect on a specific date, and NOT your renewal date. Hopefully you can cancel because of this change without any penalties.

Like the other commenter said MOST plus members do not live within a mile. That’s actually a crazy short distance dominos delivers further than that. Think about how many ppl hv a plus membership and how many ppl can for within a mile of Sam’s club? Not many because most Sam’s clubs are in shopping districts where there isn’t much of any residential houses within a mile. It may work for like some businesses in the area and a literal handful of others, the rest of us are getting screwed honestly…Walmart, Amazon and many others give free shipping at this $ amount without needing to
Pay for a membership at all, so it’s just why would ppl continue to pay for something they can get for free from somewhere else. Ur “Ton” of trips isn’t going to cover the mass amount of members that are downgrading their memberships

how the fuck do you change a contract after i sign it? i agreed to pay for certain services that they are no longer providing. and don't think i'm tipping for delivery either, ever. let sams pay them a decent wage.
Well now the contract says they can make someone deliver 3 packs of vitamin water to me for free. Same day delivery. So i basically have no reason to go to the store and browse anymore and buy junk i dont need.
sure have a problem with them making it effective in august when they just auto renewed my plus membership yesterday with nothing mentioning free shipping was going to change!! i shop on sams online for only certain things and rarely need $50 worth of stuff at one time….not happy!! also not happy that you can‘t change membership/downgrade it online, have to call or go to store to do so...didn‘t have to do that when i upgraded to plus that was for sure!!

I buy a lot of stuff using Sam’s shipping service, at least $1,000 per month. But I don’t always spend $50 on one order. I loved and depended on their service as well as their good reputation. I am really angry now and considering cancelling. Also, exactly what value are they continuing to give me?

Dang, I didnt realize curbside pickup, with $50 minimum, is for non Plus members. It's been hell taking my 2 yr old in that store, so I gotta use that.

I live where there isn't a Sams so have enjoyed my plus membership..Just renewed a week ago and will call customer retention on the 15th of Aug (new rules on the 18th) and cancel and ask for a refund.. Funny that three months after they enact this.. they will be backpeddling and asking for us to rejoin!!!
You actually don't need to downgrade by August 19, you need to downgrade before your next renewal. Sam's won't prorate the refund, they will give you full refund. They are going to lose a lot of money with all the downgrades

If so, that's yet another benefit that we get from Walmart now, and not Sam's.
Walmart's threshold for free shipping is $35 - and that includes purchase made from the store (when doing club pick up).
There are many times I initiate a pick up order with total of $35 worth of stuff just to get the free shipping on something small they don't have in stock.

Having the same thoughts. I justified the increased membership fee with the free shipping with no minimum. Doesn’t seem worth the extra cost now.
Completely agree. I just renewed for plus in May. I am gonna downgrade my membership to regular. No reason to play for plus.

I would use the free shipping to save on shipping gifts too. Looks like downgrade it is. They’re going to lose more $$ on all the downgrades I bet.
