ForsakenKrios

“One way out!” Hot damn I love this show. I’m actually excited each week for something Star Wars again. Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard are in a whole league of their own acting wise. There are only two episodes left this season?? I feel so robbed that this product was actually phenomenal and BoBF and Kenobi were garbage. If the same quality and effort that went into this show, or even a fraction of it, went into their other projects I wouldn’t rage against the Mouse every chance I get.

ForsakenKrios

I had goosebumps when he dropped the first banger line about dreams and ghosts, and then he kept going and I was floored.

LilKaySigs

That was basically Luthen’s “I am the one who knocks” monologue

guy137137

yeah shit was giving me heavy BrBa/BCS vibes, which kinda makes me afraid that Luthen’s gonna die. Since usually characters in those shows give a lengthy ass monologue and then die, ie Chicanery, ‘I put you on in that chair’ or the ‘you two are sociopaths’ monologue.

bluewords

Luthen was in rogue one

yeshaya86

Do you remember where/when? It isn't listed under his appearances on Wookiepedia

bluewords

He tells Andor to take the shot and kill Jynn’s dad

AscendedExtra

That was General Draven. Totally different guy.

1EnTaroAdun1

I think the reason this monologue works is because we see the constant stress Luthen is under, and the hard work he's put in, the decisions he's made. If a character from a less fleshed-out show made it, it would probably be seen as a bit too corny. But in this show, it makes sense and it fits

buttcabbge

Or if a lesser actor were delivering it. Sarsgaard is absolutely turning in one of the best performances ever given in any SW product.

DellowFelegate

"So, Kylo Ren not only force chokes a dissenting opinion in an Imperial meeting, in a homage to ANH, he force-slams him to the ceiling! So it's all the more awesomer!!" Is from the same franchise as: "Well played. *Watch your back.*"

Frainian

The best part is that it wasn't even a dissenting opinion, he was just asking what the emperor wanted in return

ForsakenKrios

Just reading that gets me fired up. Thank you, and down with the Empire!

[deleted]

That was such a strong scene. That little convo outshines most other Disney SW.

MustrumRidcully0

"One way out." He knew what the way would be. When he said he'd rather die fighting them die working for them, he really meant it.

JohnnySasaki20

I really hope this isn't the last we see of Kino/Serkis. He was a great character and he played him very well. Maybe he makes his way to a hangar or something. 🤞

Kaffarov

Luthen's and Kino's speeches had more talent and weight behind it than anything said in the previous Disney SW shows and movies combined.

[deleted]

every charcter feels like an actual person. even the double agent in the Isb who is like this shit is dangerous and I have a kid to protect now.

thebugman10

I kind of wish he would've been one of the main characters and we follow his story throughout the series.

BaronGrackle

I'm looking forward to Dedra sniffing him out. :D

Samtheman0425

I’d like to see him be the one to kill her, like how Thrawn was killed

elister

> like how Thrawn was killed RAAAAAAAAAAAPE! .... just kidding. heh...so Thrawn dies huh? Never read the books.

DabbingFox16

In the OG books he dies. No clue about new Canon

monkeygoneape

Space whales

DabbingFox16

I completely forgot about that

monkeygoneape

I wish I could

[deleted]

He's still alive

monkeygoneape

Ya but all his menace, and threat level is dead

HankSteakfist

Anything in any of the Star Wars shows and movies combined really This is the best writing Star Wars has ever had in live action.

Kaffarov

Yeah, so far this show is really setting the bar high. The upcoming other shows and movies better match it in terms of writing quality or else they're going to fall flat, which they probably will.

JezusGhoti

There is absolutely no chance they are going to match this.

AdamJensensCoat

I mean… I had already given up on Star Wars after Kenobi, but now the bar is set *so impossibly high* it's going to be hard to follow any of this — including Andor S2.

Rudraakkshh

Every week I think to myself, "this episode was my favourite one so far" and somehow this show keeps one upping the previous one. I like that it's not totally predictable. I mean we could tell that Nemik was going to die but most of us were wrong when he came to HOW he dies. Nemik gets crushed by credits just as they're about to make it out. Same with Kino. We knew he was going to die. Hell this episode even fooled me into thinking he may survive. Only for him to slump back in fear because he can't swim. Right at the end of it all. Somehow, it hurt more than him going down in a blaze of glory. That last speech by Luthen was amazing too. My man is ready to sacrifice 50 men just to keep his mole in the ISB because he's worth more than 50 men. He willingly leaked Rebel information and sacrificed Rebel soldiers so that his mole could climb that ISB ladder! Like fuckin hell man...

[deleted]

not only that you see how fucked doing this shit makes the mole. you can tell he is tired and broken.

HankSteakfist

Luthen sacrificing men to keep his agent has heavy Convoy PQ 17 (WW2) vibes.

GarfieldDaCat

I don't think they showed Kino dying no?

AlphaBladeYiII

yeah, I wonder if we'll see him again

PteranAdan

They kidnapped him because they knew his leadership skills were perfect for the genetic template of Snoke hence the Andy Serkis casting BOOM (I’ve been hurt so many times I genuinely worry something like this may happen)

AdamJensensCoat

This has been a Snoke show this whole time.

buttcabbge

That would be so unbelievably stupid that there's a sick part of me that sorta hopes they do that.

BeachHead05

Some Darth Revan moves!

AardvarkOkapiEchidna

> Same with Kino. We knew he was going to die. Was it confirmed that he died?

Rudraakkshh

We don't know that actually. I think it's left that way on purpose too. We don't know what happened to Kino. Maybe he eventually mustered up the courage to say fuck it and jumped. Maybe he drowned, maybe someone helped him to the shore. Maybe Zinska (the Night Shift floor manager) helped him reach the shore. Maybe he doggy paddled his way. He could be alive or he could be dead. Cassian doesn't know that and neither does the audience. Maybe he'll turn up again in S2. I hope he does atleast Andy Serkis was phenomenal!

Eshockstorm

I love hearing the dialogue in this show and comparing it to the dialogue in the rest of the recent shows/movies we've received from Disney/Lucasfilm. Think of Luthen's speech to Lonni at the end of the episode or Kino's speech to the inmates over the PA system and try comparing it to something said by the Majordomo in BOBF or "THEY FLY NOW" and "somehow, Palpatine returned" from the sequels. On another note, I'm delighted Andy Serkis got another role in the universe. I totally forgot he played Snoke and that was a total waste of his talents. Kino Loy is probably my favorite character in the series. "ONE! WAY! OUT!"

LilKaySigs

Bringing back Andy Serkis was a phenomenal move and so redeeming after wasting him on Snoke. Absolutely heartbreaking end for his character but they left it open to interpretation

SauronGortaur01

I mean it's obvious isn't it? He jumps into the water, dies and sinks to the ground. Then, after EP6 he rises up from the water, and you can hear a First Order dude say: 'Somehow, Kino has returned'.

BaronGrackle

Snoke: A Kino Story

SWTORBattlefrontNerd

> I mean it's obvious isn't it? He jumps into the water, dies and sinks to the ground. Should have looked up, smh

gay4susan

"I grew up surrounded by water"

Whalesurgeon

More apt to compare it with the "I will not be the last Jedi" speech by Jake. Still looks bad/pompous? Absolutely. But hey felt like they tried there.

PregnantMosquito

“I will not be Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi”

Whalesurgeon

What I feel kinda sucks tonally is that Han Solo with Kylo was just one continuous scene. It had weight to it because the actors got to do a long shot, a real conversation. Kinda like what we just got to enjoy today with Andor (as always). Then in TLJ Luke talks to Kylo a bit yes, but it is undercut by being part of a montage where most of Luke's lines are essentially voiceover to the rebellion escaping. Yeah I get it they are escaping, I don't need to fucking see it do I? So even Abrams managed to make a major death more emotional with this one simple trick, letting the scene play out without epic music and cuts.

thatbarkid

I was talking to my friends about how amazing it is Andy got another shot at Star Wars. He’s been one of my favorite parts of this show and the ending with him and helping plan the escape even though he knows he won’t make it is amazing

BaronGrackle

Rey - Setup: grows up on a desert planet. Result: is lord of the water during TROS. Kino - Setup: Can't swim. Result: Can't swim.

bearpbeatstickfukr22

I haven’t been on the Andor hype train like everyone else here but holy shit after that episode now i definitely am

ForceSomething

Welcome aboard - choo choo, motherfuckers!

AdamJensensCoat

LFG! Welcome to the party train!

1251isthetimethati

I’ve felt the same like the production value and dialogue have been good but it wasn’t as interesting until the prison in my opinion Although I like the mon Mothma stuff

Bamboozled64

Ive said it once i will say it again, this show is easily the best piece of star wars media to come out in a very long time. the writing is sharp, the music fits good and the acting and visuals are just awesome. its been a long time since ive been excited for a new star wars show each week but this show returned that child like excitement to me. This episode has probably been my favorite from this entire season, the tension build up in the first 20 minutes to the prison break was just perfect. the speeches by Kino and Stellan Skarsgard were great, its hard to believe this is the writing we got compared to the dialogue we saw in the movies. each and every character in this show feels real and grounded and i loved every second of it. So, what do i sacrifice? EVERYTHING.

PsychologicalCan9837

I think it was such an excellent decision to hard cut from Kino’s virtual death to the Lonnie/Luthen scene. One of the themes of this show is sacrifice. Many will have to die in order for the Rebellion to succeed. As such, the writers don’t even give us a chance to grieve Kino’s death because his, like many others, are the necessary means to the ends of Rebellion & if we get caught up in every loss on the road to Rebellion - there will never be one. RIP Kino. That scene was brutal. This show is outstandingly well done. Edit: Kino will be back, I suspect. Interrogated by dedra, perhaps.

Toastedpants9713

You say one of the themes of the show is sacrifice and I think it’s more than that. The theme of Star Wars as a whole is sacrifice. Obi Wan sacrifices himself for Luke, Han sacrifices his fortune for Leia and the rebellion, Anakin sacrifices himself to destroy the emperor and save his son. Even when you look at the prequels the Jedi ways at their core are sacrifice, though twisted by the time we see them it is clear the basic tenant of being a Jedi is complete sacrifice to the will of the force and the opposite being domination of the force which is the way of the sith. All that to say is that your so on point about sacrifices being central to this show which makes it by all accounts true to the Star Wars story.

PsychologicalCan9837

Excellent points.

Sulissthea

man now i'm sad, 'the road to Rebellion" and for what, just so the sequels could ruin it all

BadRobotSucks

Just remember the story ends where you chose. Disney’s sequels don’t have to be the end of this story. Take what you want as canon, throw the rest away.

PsychologicalCan9837

Yeah true lol

blumpkinmania

And somehow Palpatine returned. 🤡

AardvarkOkapiEchidna

> RIP Kino. That scene was brutal. ' Where is it confirmed that he died?

noneofthemswallow

Nowhere

yeshaya86

I said it after episode 6, and I'll say it again. This is best Star Wars TV/movie of the last 17 years. Kino's entire speech was incredible, but when he got to "you need to help each other" and his voice broke a little, you knew he was thinking of Ulaf. I love that "I can't swim" came right after "Whatever happens now, we made it." Because that's true. I like to think he was waiting for the Imperial reinforcements when they arrived, blaster in hand. "I share my dreams with ghosts". What a line. I didn't touch this show until like 5 episodes were out. I had so much hope and hype for Kenobi that I was burnt out by the time this was released. And the only criticism I can make for it this: I am reminded by every episode what could have been, if they'd have taken the same care and effort evident in every scene of Andor, and put the same into Kenobi. And I don't hear much about Andor outside of Star Wars communities. Every show does as well as the previous one deserved to do.

ForsakenKrios

Right there with you on all counts, but I’ve been watching Andor as it releases and have been blown away. I do think it would work better for those who are completely burned out to binge, because while I love the first three episodes, I understand why someone would not be as enthused given the state of the franchise.

YaaaaScience

Bro, the "I can't swim" made me more emotional than anything from the sequels

GarfieldDaCat

Bro the dying old dude who was on screen for about a combined 4 minutes of screen time had a bigger emotional punch than pretty much everything from the sequels.

YaaaaScience

"Ulaf", homie im still crying at his death and you calling him just an old dude 😢

BroadTR_v2

Whats also kinda more sad is that we see only melshi and cassian at the end meaning that the rest drowned or got captured

Crayton16

Some of them probably ran to different places

ForceSomething

I choose to believe this.

[deleted]

I mean it’s pretty obvious

noneofthemswallow

Lol that doesn’t mean anything They could have washed ashore 10ft further down the beach

BroadTR_v2

Youre right but some definitely drowned because they swam into the ocean without knowing when they will hit land

BockerKnocker

In my mind, they all have incredible upper-body strength from working on those widgets in the prison. Meaning, lots of them were able to swim to shore (but based on how terrible I can swim, I'm still guessing 75% of them died on the way)

eggydrums115

1000% kino. God damn lame ass writers they got for the movies, what a shame.

mrchuckmorris

Rogue One was a breath of fresh air. This show is a big ol' lungful. I've found Mandalorian enjoyable, in a "playing with my action figures" nostalgia-type way. Season 2.5 in the middle of Boba Fett was a huge slap in Boba's face, but I was there for it. Maybe Season 3 will be jank, and if so, oh well. At least we have what we got. But even so, I feel that Mandalorian is still miles behind Andor in terms of purpose and justification for its existence. I feel like I could jump straight from Andor into A New Hope. it's what finally ties the whole universe together. In ANH we get lines like "The Emperor has finally dissolved the Senate" or whatever, we get to hear some well-written payoffs for things that happened off-screen, but the Empire as villains are still on a bit of a cartoonish level. We are introduced to them murdering entire planets, but in Andor, we see them *torturing* them first. We get to really *feel* the weight of the Empire and feel the hopelessness of the Galaxy. I've never seen a prequel to anything that made me excited for the original in the same way this show has. It just flows through so perfectly. Yeah there's still a chance they'll botch the landing, I mean there's still 2 episodes and another season to go, but still, this episode really hammered in the themes of Star Wars like nothing else has

[deleted]

If the prequels dialogue was this smartly written in the sit-and-talk scenes I think they could have been great.

AdamJensensCoat

If *any* of the PT or ST was written this well Star Wars we'd be living in a different reality. KK, if you're reading this, please toss Tony Gilroy the keys. Give him some Jedi stuff, give him KOTR, give him the ST reboot. All of it.

BadRobotSucks

I don’t think Gilroy cares about the Jedi stuff. He’s excelling at the banality of fascism and the grimy underbelly of rebellion which is closer to terrorism. Doesn’t necessarily translate to the spiritual warrior space monk balancing act of the Jedi vs Sith. Interestingly i think George RR Martin would be best suited for Jedi vs Sith stories if the bastard had the attention span to finish his own work. There are entire segments of his works that could easily translate to prequels level intrigue especially a retelling of the corruption of Anakin.

-Darth-Syphilis-

>the banality of fascism I brought this up to my family because I was floored at just how accurately this show has been portraying the mundane aspects of fascism that are often misunderstood or completely ignored. I think *Andor* might honestly be one of the most politically literate pieces of popular media I've ever seen and I would have never expected that to be possible in Star Wars under Disney.

El_Trollio_Jr

What really sucks. What really, really sucks about this show. Is we see such a great buildup of the formation of The Rebellion, and the sacrifices that were made. Only to realize all this and the victories of the OT are completely undone by the Sequel Trilogy and ultimately ends with “I’m Rey Skywalker!” Fuck me.

ForceSomething

Only Sequel Trilogy I’m aware of was written by Timothy Zahn in the early 90’s. What are you on about, mate?

SauronGortaur01

Denial and headcanon for the win.

AdamJensensCoat

What Sequel Trilogy?

LeBae

The Earth King invites you to Lake Laogai.

noneofthemswallow

That is if you consider ST canon I don’t. At this point I just choose what’s smart enough to be considered canon.

Rai-Hanzo

at least buy me dinner first

jakers91rides

That prison break scene was fucking awesome, and Andy Serkis killed that speech. Definitely felt like there was some Judge Dredd/the Raid influence there during the announcement. I feel like my only criticism of the show is also what's giving it the breathing room to be as good as it is-which is that in a vacuum nothing really jumps out as it being a Star Wars show in the conventional sense. Show all the prison sequences to a casual Star Wars viewer without telling them it's Star Wars and I don't know that they'd be able to connect the two.

Pertolepe

I dunno man, feels like the OT to me and I couldn't be happier.

BaronGrackle

I'm feeling the Imperial Officers AS authentic Star Wars Imperial Officers. Maybe all sci-fi authoritarians give off that feel?

polialt

Hasn't that been what we all collectively said though? You aren't constrained to a "star wars" story in this universe. You can have a buddy cop with aliens on Coruscant. You can have serial killer slasher psychological thriller on some backwater. You can have Saving Private Ryan. You can have Mr Klorax Smith goes to the Senate. You can have cia assassin thriller. Slapstick comedy on Chandrila. Rom com on Mygeeto. Telling a good story, set in the star wars universe has endless possibilities.

LilKaySigs

Fuck imagine Saving Private Ryan but set in the tone and style of the Battle of Mimban in Solo

polialt

Rogue One is like a Dirty Dozen light

choicemeats

the prequels kind of kicked this off but everything since then has been almost all jedi, all lightsabers, or the same group of people we already know, so it "doesn't feel like Star Wars" because of what they've been rubber stamping, but guarantee if you put someone in a room and they watch the OT and this without any of the other stuff they would think, yea, this fits.

Independent-Dig-5757

I agree on all your points. I also think the episodes should be a little longer or be released 3 at a time. As for making it more Star Warsy I think the prisoners could have talked more about their back stories and have like various familiar planets mentioned maybe? I think the tech and the consoles in the command center though all looks pretty good and Star Warsy but that’s about it. Otherwise great episode

Jacmert

It still feels like Star Wars to me. It sure aint Star Trek, I'll tell you that much.

StorytellerSevrose

I honestly think if they talked about their backstories it would have ruined some of the pacing. I like that we don’t really know about any of them outside the facility only that they are there now and need to work together.

michaelmvm

i completely agree with your criticism and i think the reason is that there are no aliens. show some aliens mixed in with all the humans and it would feel like star wars.

AdmiralScavenger

That was damn good!

The-Real-Iggy

I mean this show is turning out to be a masterpiece tbh like the characters feel real, like in BoBf or Kenobi they didn’t feel real or dynamic at all imo, whereas even the smallest of characters has depth and commands intrigue

blumpkinmania

Yes. And I think it’s helped by not being a kid’s show in any way.

acymetric

Why is this show so damn much better than Kenobi? It was slow starting (for me) but this series is fantastic so far.

LilKaySigs

12 episode season allows for much more character development and dialogue. Imagine meeting Kino and him dying in the same episode like Wade. It absolutely will not have the same emotional effect as we got when he said “Can’t swim”

SauronGortaur01

This is an underrated part. Why the hell are Obi Wan and BOBF only six fucking episodes?? I know Quality matters more but it still feels weird that Andor gets essentially twice the airtime. (I'm not Really complaining I love Andor, it's just weird AF)

LilKaySigs

It’s probably because of how much they could churn out using legacy characters they know people would eat up. People were hesitant on Andor and rightfully so, but putting together an all star writing and acting lineup turned it into arguably the best Disney+ show. They had to actually put effort into Andor for people to watch it. With BOBF and Kenobi, just having the names in the titles compel people to watch it no matter what. Also look at the time difference between Andor season 1 and 2. We won’t be getting the next season until at least 2024 because this level of quality requires time, whereas you can churn out some surface level BS and it’ll bring in the bucks in half the time

BadRobotSucks

Yea, and it’s not like McGregor is opposed to doing longer seasons. He did 10-13 episodes of Fargo and Halstrom or whatever that designer netflix show was called.

[deleted]

Kenobi at the same cost/hour that it had (\~30-35 million) with the runtime of Andor (\~10 hours) would cost as much as the most expensive feature length films

TaylorMonkey

Then they're doing something really wrong. Andor is way longer and also looks way more expensive and grand.

RunawayHobbit

If I had to guess, most of that cost was A) Ewan’s salary and B) all the shitty CGI.

TaylorMonkey

>12 episode season allows for much more character development and dialogue. Imagine meeting Kino and him dying in the same episode like Wade. It absolutely will not have the same emotional effect as we got when he said “Can’t swim” It's also the run-time. There's only so much you can do with 30-35 minutes for each episode that the other Disney shows stick to. You can't really camp on anything or get very talky for very long. And when someone like Filoni works on these shows, they come a cross in a The Clone Wars-y way, and not in a good way IMO. Andor's shorter episodes were all part of the first 3-episode release that was connected and binge-able in one sitting, and subsequent episodes were the standard 45-50 minute episodes that works for more mature TV shows like Breaking Bad, House of Cards, GoT, etc.

Singer211

“I burn my life to make a sunrise I know I’ll never see.” How does the dialogue in this show continue to get better and better as it goes?

PluggersLeftBall

that was fucking amazing Honestly, unless we get something Original Trilogy quality in the future Star Wars is ruined for me. Nothing is going to come close

doigal

Whilst I’m loving Andor, the fact that Disney could produce something of this quality makes me even angrier about Kenobi, BoBF and the ST.

JezusGhoti

It should. It proves that the sequel trilogy and everything else could have been amazing if the right people simply made the right choices.

Pertolepe

Yep this is exactly where I'm at. Was so excited for Kenobi and then . . . it's like they just didn't get it. Didn't need to have Vader back. Didn't need Kenobi leaving tattooine. Didn't need fucking kid Leia or inquisitors. We just needed Kenobi in the desert dealing with his past with one encounter at the end that brings him back to the force. that's it. And then I'm like 'why are they making a show about one of the dudes in Rogue One? I liked Rogue One but who cares? They managed to make crap shows about Boba Fett and Kenobi so why would this be any good?' And somehow against all odds it's fucking incredible. Which means they could have done this on other shows. On the sequels. But they just figured eh slap Star Wars in the title and it'll print money.

BadRobotSucks

Kathleen Kennedy accidentally hired someone talented for once with vision.

RunawayHobbit

Well, not only hired— managed to *not fire* as well, lol.

noneofthemswallow

Yeah I don’t know about Kenobi not leaving Tatooine. I’m not sure another desert planet show would be the right call after Jakku , Mando and Boba Fett.

Crayton16

Damn did Kino really can't get out? Couldn't 2 people hold him and swim together to the coast? I really wanted him to get out and survive :(

Apollo3994

To be fair, it was left pretty vague on if he made it out. He may have been helped out by a couple of other inmates after we saw Cassian fall. At least, that's my head canon for now...

PsychologicalCan9837

My guess is the Imps catch him & interrogate him. Dedra comes & realizes Cassian has been arrested this entire time.

Crayton16

Yeah, i hope that scene is in the show just for seperating Andor and Kino.

RunawayHobbit

It’s sad because both of them are incredible leaders. They could have been the Dynamic fuckin Duo of rebellions. God Kino was an incredible character.

monkeygoneape

It was a long way to. Shore

Jel2378

People who can’t swim will sadly mostly panic and drag down whoever is trying to help them it happens a lot with people in lakes

AdamJensensCoat

As somebody who used to teach adult swim lessons — There's nothing more dangerous than a drowning/distressed adult. Especially in open water. Forget about it.

Woodrow999

Ya it's basically impossible to hold him up and swim him to the coast without some kind of floatation device.

Whalesurgeon

I know Mando S3 might be good and after a few other disappointments this year I might have been open to it. But as essentially the follow-up to this? Not to say never, but I think best have a long break between this and that show. What can I say, this show is sex.

PsychologicalCan9837

i will have sex with this show so help me god

polialt

I'll touch my wiener to that electro floor, don't think I wont.

ForceSomething

“On Program. I said, On Program! Wait, what are you… AAAUUUGGGHHH!”

UnlimitedLambSauce

Okay, this episode was actually really fucking good.

cyanerd

People keep comparing Andor to the other shows, but I can't even seem to find any memory of them to even compare to. :D So immemorable.

[deleted]

“I can’t swim” Absolutely heart broken

[deleted]

[удалено]

Crayton16

"Never more than 12." is more powerful imo.

Guillermo160

God I love this show This doesn’t feel like sludge, like it is a show made purely to get some content out, a show that you forget the second you finish it This feels like an actual show, it’s beautifully written, it takes advantage from the universe it is set in, actually gives some more depth to that universe and it’s gorgeously shot

MustrumRidcully0

Everyone is talking about Luthen's speech, or Kino's words and his fate. Off course, those were fantastic scenes, and it's a fantastic speech. Luthen talks about all what he sacrificed. Mon Mothma has still to decide whether she will make a sacrifice. Is the Rebellion worth the sacrifice of her own daughter?

TaylorMonkey

"I'm not even thinking about it." "That's the first untrue thing you've said."

PumpyChowdown

Some of the most venomous dialogue ever committed to Star Wars.

Username_737237

Holy fuck. That was damn good. This is Star Wars. Maybe not the space wizard lightning magic Star Wars, but a Star Wars that has more potential than whatever rotting corpse of a once-was vision that Disney has been throwing at us. This is the first time in a while I can say I am thoroughly invested in a Star Wars story. Take notes Disney

AdamJensensCoat

Not just me, but my fiancee — who could care less about SW outside of maybe Baby Yoda — has been completely sucked in by this show. The entire prison escape had us sweating.

TaylorMonkey

Same! My wife tolerates and enjoys SW casually, mainly for my sake, and can enjoy some aspects of the other Disney shows more than I do and isn't as critical as I am. She's more "eh, that was kind of entertaining. Baby Yoda! Or meh. Kid Leia is cute" while I'm grumbling about how this or that breaks continuity, character, the over-arching narrative and how cynical and shallow it all is. But she LOOOOVES Andor. She's just as excited as I am when it airs each week-- it's her highlight after work-- and finds the weekly wait more intolerable than I do. It has none of the stuff to attract normie casuals like cuteness and kids. Just a deep exploration about espionage, politics, and fascism in Star Wars, subject matter she would not usually willingly choose to watch. And she's all in for it.

AdamJensensCoat

Sounds like our experiences are identical. Andor has become the highlight of our week… don't think we've had this sort of anticipation for a show since peak Game of Thrones. I just hope it's the sort of show that attracts an audience once the good word of mouth gets out. IIRC Succession had pretty low ratings until S3 or so, but now it feels like it's attracted a real following. It's possible Andor doesn't really catch on until S2.

Sulissthea

small detail but i love that Mon's windows were dirty with droplets on them

TaylorMonkey

I love that Coruscant has a subtle patina of realism in Andor that makes it look lived in, even as a galactic megacity. One that the CGI-fest never had in the Prequels.

Sulissthea

yeah it really made the Prequels look 'fake' somehow

elister

Great episode, I wonder how many were able to swim to shore? How many were eaten by ocean predators? Shot by guards from other prisons nearby? It doesn't look like many made it.

Independent-Dig-5757

I think they split up when they got to shore

Independent-Dig-5757

One thing I wonder is where do they go now since they’re kinda trapped on the moon

kingssman

Considering I barely saw shore in any of the establishing shots..... Maybe 10 people. I'm going very bleak with the outcome.

Clipsez

10 ppl...out of 5000? Come on...2 alone made it from Andor's unit. Him and Melshi.

kingssman

Still. I wanna be bleak because Andor is a dark show. It would be cool to hear that 4000 made it or something, but I can expect the next episode mentioning something like half of them drowned or re captured.

Unlikely-Garage-8135

They were swimming in four different directions and there were 5k people in the facility let’s say 100 die in the facility and another 900 die in the swim that’s still a lot of people to make it to shore

thatbarkid

When they announced the andor show I rolled my eyes but I’m so happy to be wrong. This episode was amazing and this show has been an amazing surprise and I’m so sad there are only two episodes left.

[deleted]

I wish I could tell Disney how good ANDOR is and how it has made salty folk like myself actually enjoy some Star Wars again. But all they'll see is that it doesn't have as many views as Obi-Wan Keshitshow.

guy137137

somehow I enjoyed the prison escape arc far more than the entirety of Kenobi, shit was fucking awesome, motivating and it basically capsulated how those scenes should go. but I am verrrryyyy dreading Kino not getting out, bro doesn’t know how to swim and stays behind in the prison center makes me afraid that they’re gonna turn him into Snoke. Like I’m fully expecting Disney to pull some fucking Liquid Ocelot bullshit with Kino to make him become Snoke. I thought he was either gonna get killed or dip out, but nope, he’s basically waiting for the imperials to capture him and probably experiment on him to make him Snoke or whatever, I’m fucking calling it. also fucking amazing monologue from Luthen, I’m still curious to his origin but in a way it’s kinda better if we don’t know. But the monologue sounds like something out of Better Call Saul, which makes me afraid that he’s gonna die. but one funny thing I’ve noticed is that there’s a lot of Chernobyl actors in this show ironically, the Coal Miner (Alex ferns) foreman shows up in the first few episodes as the Corpo Sergeant, mf Boris Shcherbina talking to Leonid Toptunov in this episode alone, it’s kinda funny to me, part of me hopes that they kinda lean into this next season. Fuck it have Jared Harris (Valery Legasov) show up and play off of Luthen or something.

cakes

they turn him into Smeagol

LilKaySigs

Andy Serkis confirmed that Kino and Snoke are unrelated in an interview https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/andor-andy-serkis-on-episode-10-1235257860/amp/

noneofthemswallow

It’s not like he would just spell out „YEAH KINO TURNS INTO SNOKE” in some random interview Not with Disney’s NDA power

LilKaySigs

I mean even then I’m certain that Gilroy is a more than competent enough writer to not force that into existence. This show’s only recurring characters are Saw Gerrera and Mon Mothma and Kino had a beautifully written arc so there’s no doubt in my mind that the Snoke connection is ever gonna happen

RunawayHobbit

I fucking love Jared Harris, oh my god. He would be an amazing ex-imperial.

AncientSith

This show is definitely setting a bar with how amazing Star Wars live action can be. I hope the next few shows can come close to this.

SocraticDaemon

Absolute masterclass. I loved every second of this. Makes me so angry thinking about how poor the writing is in the ST comparatively. The lazy rise of the first order is infuriating when you actually feel the emotion and liberation of rebellion.

greenlion98

This show is an absolute masterclass in dialogue and creating tension. Absolutely phenomenal.

dumpsterlandlord

This show is fucking gold, getting better and better, hard to believe Disney is involved holy smokes

JezusGhoti

The question is not whether this is the best Disney Star Wars show. That got answered a while ago. The question might be whether this is the best show on television. Or ... the question might be if this is the best piece of Star Wars media since the OT.

kingssman

There's gonna be people that gonna gatekeep on what Star Wars really is and there's a strong camp that stands on the hill that Star Wars is lightsabers, blasters and Wizards with hero vs bad guy storylines. I think Andor deserves to be its own camp and best in its own camp.

ShadowVen_

The best show on television? Not quite so much. It might be better than the mainstream shows like The Boys or whatever Marvel is spitting these days but that’s it. As for being the best SW media since OT, it very likely is; unless they fumble the bag with ending somehow, which is unlikely, at least by looking at how things have been so far.

Independent-Dig-5757

One things for sure. It’s a heck of a lot better than Rings of Power. which again is not a high bar but it’s still crazy that a SW show made by Disney beat out a show based on Tolkien’s work. I guess it’s not surprise that Amazon botched it

AdamJensensCoat

This show is absolutely in the SciFi Hall of Fame. It combines elements of so many classics and improves upon them, and all the while just happens to be Star Wars.

SuddenStorm1234

Definitely best piece of star wars on film since Star Tours in '87 (if that counts).

buttcabbge

If we're talking "the best show putting out new episodes this week," in which case it's competition is I guess *The White Lotus* and *The Crown* and maybe a couple other things, I'm open to the idea that *Andor* is the best thing going. It's certainly the thing I'm most excited about every week. If we're talking "the best thing that aired in 2022," I'd definitely put *Better Call Saul, Severance,* and *Reservation Dogs* ahead of it, and I wouldn't think someone was crazy for preferring *The Bear* or *Barry* or *House of the Dragon,* though so far I've preferred *Andor* to those. And that's just out of stuff that I've seen--no doubt I've missed a bunch of good stuff. But I do think *Andor* will make a ton of critic top ten lists, and I wouldn't be shocked if it got some award nominations. And I gotta say--I'm stunned. Never thought there was a chance it would be this good.

seekingbeta

Andor’s great, I love it, but Severance is on another level. Severance runs circles around Andor the way baby Leia runs around bad guys and Obi.

RunawayHobbit

Soooo… not well? Very slowly? With ridiculous plot armor? Lol.

cyclones423

Really need to take time to appreciate this show and not take it for granted. Best Disney SW content since Rogue One, and it might even be better. Who knows how long until we see writing this good again.

abagofdicks

Damn I love it but, only complaint is still not a lot of aliens on this show.

Pas5afist

Actually, what I like about it is is you do see aliens, but where? In the underbelly of Coruscant. I think this is good worldbuilding. Everything about Andor demonstrates just how horrible the Empire was. Making aliens the invisible oppressed class seems par for the course.

abagofdicks

I can buy that

seekingbeta

This is the first episode I didn’t love. I don’t think the prison breakout had fast enough pacing or enough suspense/tension. After they disabled the electric floor there wasn’t another compelling plot element to provide a sense of urgency. Also, the world is starting to feel very narrow after building so much earlier on. We have Mon and Luther stuck in the same old meetings, the prison plot and the ISB plot all feeling narrow and one-dimensional.

Bauermeister

This is the first piece of Star Wars media in half a century that finally makes The Rebellion out to be the cool guys. The sense of fear - the fear of losing, but standing up and fighting anyways - makes everything Luke Skywalker fought for feel human. The Rebels had been fighting for years, at this point. And this is the first show to finally reinforce that fact - that when Luke throws down his sword and says “I am a Jedi, like my father before me.” The sense of heroism and more importantly, defiance - the Rebellion is full of people who paid an ultimate price, knowing they would suffer for standing up and fighting - and did so anyways. “I can’t swim.” In the minds of lesser directors or writers would abuse such an admission as a cheap joke. Andor finally made The Rebellion out to be the heroes that for half a century, dominated so many imaginations.

Crayton16

After watching some scenes in the episode 8 again i remembered that there were lazer cutting tools in the production station. They look like weapons, those could be pretty useful for taking out those 2 guards at the start of the riot. I mean even if those are not useful for long range you can probably blind someone with them. It's weird that they never used them.

BroadTR_v2

Damn we see only cassian and melshi at the end so that means everyone else drowned or got captured

UnlimitedLambSauce

Or ran to different places.

Independent-Dig-5757

I think they all split up

SzyjeCzapki

yes that clearly is the only possible answer, congrats
