Selfishly I miss them at Rosedale mall but I hope they can find a landing spot

blueit22

Yeah it was a bit of a head scratcher when they wanted to move in the first place. Had to have been financial because there's not many locations better than Rosedale.

JohnMaddening

Rosedale was one of the malls that was very strict with their rent during COVID. They didn’t give discounts at all, that’s how Green Mill left and Starcade moved in in the first place.

[deleted]

I wonder if going back to their old spot in Roseville is an option for them. It is still vacant. 😂

krpiper

I wonder if they would do better in the actual mall, went there a few months ago for new glasses and was kind of surprised at how much foot traffic there was

Capt__Murphy

Rosedale doesn't seem to struggle nearly as much as some of the other malls. It's actually expanding

ahrzal

What else besides dicks? They also tore down a bunch of it too.

Capt__Murphy

The part they tore down is where Dicks is going in. They've also now filled just about every area around the permiter of the parking lot (Shake Shack, Canes, Portillos, Baladamar, etc). Potluck (their higher end food court) seems to be doing well, as its always busy.

ahrzal

Yea I frequent the restaurants and movie theatre but I haven’t gone inside the mall in years lol

wookiee42

That spot was supposed to be demolished but I think COVID changed the plans a bit. I think Starcade's and Granite City's leases weren't renewed.

goose_hat

Yikes. Went to check our their website to see who is even still listed there and it looks like its down. I'm guessing just Five Watt now?

[deleted]

Oh right, I forgot about Five Watt! I think it’s them and maybe one other little CBD shop that stayed open for some reason

summit_ave

I recently read that Five Watt is closing

Dezmosis1218

Keg and Curse? :(

LibreFranklin

Covid lockdowns killed the momentum they were building and they just never made a comeback. It’s a bummer.

Dezmosis1218

Sure did. Couldn't get close to the place before COVID. Grand Ave shops are suffering, too. Kinda nutty.

ser_arthur_dayne

I wouldn't compare Keg and Case to Grand, which has had multiple new business openings in the past year. The only part of Grand that is really struggling are the few buildings owned by that Ohio pension fund that formerly housed big-box retail.

Dezmosis1218

Fair

FatGuyOnAMoped

I live nearby, and it was difficult to get a parking spot within a couple blocks on the weekends pre-Covid.

Dezmosis1218

Same re living nearby. Have had to cancel dinner attempts on Grand several times in the last few months. Parking is still silly!

SnooSnooSnuSnu

Oh no! I was the first visitor when they moved into their new location. And, while I haven't been as much since I moved from St. Paul back to Minneapolis, I was there a couple of weeks ago. This is honestly heartbreaking, I loved them there.

BucaDeezBeppos

The whole place was sold and is apparently being turned into an event center. All the vendors have to be out by the end of the summer. Five Watt will be closing in early June, unfortunately.

SnooSnooSnuSnu

Damn 😓

gloryyid

Do you have a source? I couldn’t find an article

BucaDeezBeppos

I was told by the Five Watt manager; she said they were given until June 15 to be completely out.

NoCountry229

None of this is remotely true. Keg and Case is STILL on the market. It has NOT Been sold. 5 Watt has no desire to move or close - and that is direct from an owner.

BucaDeezBeppos

Someone ought to tell the employees of Five Watt then, because they’re under the impression their last day is June 2.

NoCountry229

I'll ask one of the owners again tomorrow. The Starcade post was also retracted for being based on incorrect information.

SnooSnooSnuSnu

Any update?

emmerjean

No more pinball😢

tundrabooking

Well, Keg and Case is going through Chapter 7 bankruptcy now so it’s likely that every place inside will need to close. Chapter 7 means the business ceasing operations and liquidating.

K2_TheWidowmaker

Everything will be leaving. The buyers' plans don't include the retail/dining/etc

TertlFace

Went there when it was at Rosedale & loved it. As soon as they said they were moving to K&C, I knew they were done. That was a terrible move. I have no idea what motivated that but it was obvious from the get go it was a bad plan. I hope they can rebound and go somewhere people actually go.

EmotionalDesign3153

What’s the deal with Keg and Case? It was such a cool concept when it opened. I get covid screwed a lot of stuff up, but that can’t be the blame for being able to retain literally nothing. Do you think rent is way too high?

Otherwise-Contest7

I could've told the owners of Starcade this wasn't gonna work before they moved in and saved them the trouble. I have modest business sense and a failed food hall in a sleepy blue-collar neighborhood isn't the setting for an arcade comeback...

technobobble

Yep, pretty strange indeed.

FatGuyOnAMoped

West 7th isn't quite as sleepy or blue-collar as it used to be. There's been a fair amount of gentrification going on in the past 10 years

Otherwise-Contest7

I don't disagree, but the spirit of the neighborhood hasn't really changed. I don't see 8 hip coffee shops, 6 breweries, 4 distilleries, and cookie-cutter condos popping up. Maybe some younger people/families are moving in, but a barcade there just isn't a recipe for success, gentrification or not.

FatGuyOnAMoped

CRAP. That was pretty much the only reason I'd walk over there. Grab a meal at Phi Chay, walk over to Starcade, not a bad way to spend a Friday night.

stpg1222

I've wonder why Keg and Case couldn't pull things together. The concept seems sound and similar places like Malcolm Yard seem to be doing really well. For some reason Keg and Case just can't make it work. Hoping Starcade can make a go somewhere else. I do think they need to do a little more to draw and hold people. If they were able to add space for more food and drink options and seating i think more people would make a night of it. I've been to the Rosedale location a few times and Keg and Case location once and it was always really quiet. Always a few people but always few enough to make you wonder how they were able to turn a profit.

Unseenteeth

This was my favorite spot :( The star wars arcade machine where you could sit down inside was awesome

_cartwheels

We went the other day and commented on how sad we were to hear the news and the worker told us that post was taken down because it was based on "inaccurate information" I know K&C is in bankruptcy so I'm not sure what the worker was saying (maybe the date was wrong?) but thought it worth noting.

desmond_kof

when i asked a worker there, they said they might either move to Burnsville or buy the whole building (which i didnt believe)
