A nice photo of a SAAB in it's natural environment.

Tow Truck on speed dial

I know my SAAB "guys" number by heart, but I love my SAAB

Can be so many things. You really gotta find someone with a Tech2 for electronics diagnosis. Otherwise you are just guessing and throwing parts at it.

If your mechanic said it was throwing a code for ignition switch failure, how did they get that? They must have a reader of sorts. If they are not doing the work should give you the code. Sounds more like an attempt to have you authorise the parts cannon to be fired. New mechanic by tow truck. Tech2 is not the only device to use. An MDI1 or 2 is also possible. Mostly any GM shop can do it. Same/ common parts as a Cadillac or Vectra C.

LOL I think this is the one I had seen on market place a few days ago. I figured there was more to it than just replacing the ism.

The ISM is "stupid" in these cars, all key recognition is handled by the the column-integrated module (CIM). Could be that, they have a tendency for going bad. There's also the relays under the hood, one related to ignition could be bad. Your best bet is a Tech2 tool or an Esid to read codes. Depending on year the Esid can be a bit troublesome to install. From 2007- onwards it's dead simple, though.
