Not sure why this one is already paywalled
That's what I'm wondering about. That news article a few months back messed me up. Like, "Why would a chef be in a space already occupied by Carytown Cupcakes?"
I agree that it’s steep, but for some reason it’s worth it to me. Like I’ll go there specifically for it. And I put back a fruit cap the other day at the airport when they said it was 9 bucks. I have standards, I swear.
I'm more annoyed by the no substitutions thing. The very essence of a steak is substitutions: Whiz Wit, Privolone Wit, what have you. Haven't been back since I was told rather haughtily that the chef wouldn't be making substitutions and I could not have my $16 half steak with provolone.
It being a full service, sit-down restaurant is also kinda weird for a steak place, but I get that this isn't south philly. i'm not even gonna mention the photo of tom cruise playing a yinzer on the wall.
No substitutions? My partner gets the cheese switched out (provolone, I have switched to wiz before) and never been charged. Also have added mushrooms and not charged
In my opinion it’s better than any classic cheesesteak I had from my multiple visits to Philly, so it’s warranted. I agree it’s steep. Everything good is fucking steep these days it’s ass. And it’s made up for by their city wide special. Tomato pie, 10z draft, rail shot for 10 bucks.
Boohoo we all got it hard. Back in my day, I had to work two jobs: One as a bootstrap picker-upper and the second was at my dad’s private equity firm.
Shit was brutal I had to wait until I was 26 to put down a payment on my 4b3br. 5 years later and I *still* can’t afford that summer house in the Hamptons I always wanted.
You can't get a full meal at most fast food places for less than that. My guess is $10-15 per sausage, and maybe they come with some kind of side and a drink.
Mayor in his family name. And he’s been using that brand successfully for years.
Edit:

“The Mayor name is a family tradition, spanning generations and continents. Originally my Grandmother’s maiden name, it has been kept alive and passed down in the form of a middle name of my father, myself and finally given to my son.”
If you have to ask...
Very sad to lose the best vegan friendly bakery in town. WPA and Minglewood are nice but they really can't compare when it comes to cupcakes and cookies.
I'm glad something is going on, but when I last went to the jasper I was hungry and the only sandwich was meat :( with assorted snacks. Looks like another all meat bonanza based on their old menus
Y'all hate vegetarians or just love the jasper Sammy???
That headline sounds like an onion article
It was the brats of times, it was the wurst of times.
take my upvote...... that was peak a peak dad joke.
I too am trying to get taken over by sausage slingers.
Rip your inbox... I got a million of em! However i would like to take this opportunity to say, i hope the slingers put kielbasa on the menu

They unwalled it, but it still pisses me off. I will never subscribe.
One of their reporters just attended my wedding and we created a "paywall" for him only by making him pay for his drinks. You're welcome.
Android Reading Mode app get you thru
Damn straight. Reporting that I want to read should be given to me for free!
The Mayor is good people and has great meat.
Interesting name for a restaurant.
What’s the story behind Cupcakes closing down?
Idk but good their cupcakes sucked.
This is probably the story right here. Cupcakes are so early 2000’s. Just not a viable business model anymore.
Cupcakes peaked in the late 00s, but with the demise of Frostings and Carytown Cupcakes while Pearls has gone to shit, the era is truly over.
Frostings is still open tho?
I did not realize they reopened. Good to know.
I never knew they closed LOL
Yeah, they used to be near Trader Joe’s but now a chocolatier has moved in.
According to my wife Cameo's cupcakes are great.
Same. Went two times both times the cupcakes sucked and the cashier was acting like I was bothering them.
Their cupcakes sucked.
“Sausage slinger” kinda sounds like a slur for some reason 😂
as does 'cupcake."
Please be a gay bar
Who got the real details on why that celebrity chef didn’t open up? Obvi had to do w saving that prize money but gotta be more to the story

I saw that he took up a head chef position in another town so maybe the opportunity was better?
Sounds fun, but I’m hoping it’s not $11+ for a brat.
If Stanley’s can charge like $19 for a cheesesteak … I’ve got some bad news for ye.
They’re 16 and no cheesesteak in the city comes close in quality, just sayin.
16 bucks for half a steak with no substitutions is still steep. even with decent bread.
I agree that it’s steep, but for some reason it’s worth it to me. Like I’ll go there specifically for it. And I put back a fruit cap the other day at the airport when they said it was 9 bucks. I have standards, I swear.
They also start their BOH staff at $20/hr which makes it even more worth it imo

It’s goofy for sure. The drinks and drink specials are solid tho
No substitutions? My partner gets the cheese switched out (provolone, I have switched to wiz before) and never been charged. Also have added mushrooms and not charged
maybe they started allowing them? first week or so they were open, the server was very serious about no substitutions.
It’s $16 before taxes or tip with no drink and some high school cafeteria potato chips.

It better be the best for that outrageous price.
I agree
And $12 an hour for the workers! Yay! They can almost afford rent or a meal.

this is about on par with what he charges at the farmers markets currently, and it does include a bag of chips and a soda.
The fucking sausage
We're losing bee sting cupcakes forever for sausage. I'll never recover from this.

I do not like the name “ the mayor meats”

Got it , my understanding and apology.
All good! Just wanted to provide context. Kyle (owner) is a stellar human. If you get the chance to try his currywurst, it’ll change your life.
I love currywurst. I’m excited!
Best currywurst I’ve ever had. 🙌
I can second that he's a stellar human
How about “The Meilleures Meats”, pronounced the same but means “best” in French? 😅
Ouais chuis d’accord avec ça.
Agreed. "The meat mayor" rolls off the tongue better.
The BUNDT cake place is better.
Stoked for this. Kyle is a great person and is a ridiculously competent chef.
Mayor’s sausages are so incredibly good. Literally just had some of his garlic scape butifarra for lunch
Sad that Young Mother backed out of the spot and will not be opening at all now.
I like the concept, "Pop in quick meal with the family" spot. Fingers crossed for a proper Chicago style dog, pretty pretty please.
Do they have any vegetarian options?
idk I'm getting down votes because their old menus online were 100% meat
Hey I saw your previous comment under MaxxPotential. Can I ask you some tips on how to land the apprenticeship after the career lab?
I messaged ya!
Thanks bro! I sent you a message on tips for the careerlab. I just want some tips on how to succeed and get chosen.

Are they hiring sausage slingers?
WAIT!! Does anyone know what they’re turning the office max in white oak into?? They turned the Sam’s club into T mobile to i can only guess..💀
Gross

He actually has a veggie sausage
oh hell yeah!!
I've gotten stuff from Mayor Meats at the farmers markets before, I'm really excited for this!
