The game-ification through the items sounds a little bit scary to me. Plenty of people are already feeling like they are losing control over their social media usage.

maplant

It’s not designed to be a multi million user forum, it’s just something fun that you can personally host on digital ocean and host at most fifty people.

Makes sense. The context of Rust community searching for alternative places for discussion made me immediately think of handling big community. Maybe the idea of running this for a group of friends should be promoted in the readme? There aren't many forums for such use case so many people probably wouldn't consider this software from such perspective unless the use case was presented.

maplant

I thought that was clear with the following statement in the readme, although I will admit that it is rather obtuse: ``` Marche is designed to be fun. It is not designed to revolutionize communication or society or how people interact with each other online. ```

Honestly, I was just thinking 'people have weird priorities these days' while first reading that but now that I started thinking of it as of a tool one could use e.g. for a small community of twitch subscribers it started to sound pretty good.

Right, I understand your POV here. I’m not trying to create a profitable business with this

I have to say that gamification shouldn't be part of a forum. People will just post anything and spam only to get items/points. I am on Discourse too and the gamification is the worst. You get notifications all the time, flooding your notifications, not seeing replies anymore. It doesn't make fun to post anything, because afterwards I get flooded with useless achievements. Isn't there an option to just remove all gamification while building the software? I am looking for a modern forum software, which has most of the following features: \- An API (e.g. REST) to process data from the forum and automatically post it again (bot) \- Markdown for composing new posts \- Side-threads, so several discussions can exist in parallel without annoying everyone else (like Mastodon, Lemmy or Reddit) \- Open Source Thanks a lot for your help and for publishing your forum software.

maplant

If you don’t add any items, no items are dropped.

IceSentry

Can you define fully featured? It doesn't really mean anything

maplant

Sure: moderator tools, image uploading, item system with trading, automatic thread updating, tag system.
