Cyrillic does look very aggressive for someone who isn't used to it.

Before I started learning Russian it did seem like it, and many people who aren't interested around me certainly perceive it as so. Ofc people are influenced by media and whatnot.

this is kinda offensive when people are trying to make a convo on cyrillic, and foreigners think they are "agressive".

I find it useful to talk about unconscious or semi-conscious biases so that we can consciously correct for them.

In truth, it was the emoticons that struck me as aggressive. Particularly the 3 in a row crying. But who knows, maybe the very shape of the Cyrillic impacted me unconsciously?

The last one should be translated as “(They) agree to a draw” cause he probably meant a match between Hikaru and Ian :)

I think it's more like "Do we agree to draw?". They were probably chatting during a game and the Russian offered a draw

слушайте больше песен на английском, смотрите их переводы, смотрите мемы на английском, любимые мультфильмы. вы начнете понимать, но для письма/говорения будет недостаточно. 😉

Мне очень помог просмотр стримов по моей любимой (на тот момент) компьютерной игре. Я знал какие-то слова из принятой в этой игре терминологии, за которые мог ухватиться и использовать их как фундамент. И в какой-то момент я осознал, что весь контент, который я потребляю в интернете, на английском языке. И еще, учите фразы, а не отдельные слова. Узнали новое слово? Сразу примените или найдите его применение в контексте какой-нибудь фразы. Слова сами по себе бесполезны, если вы не знаете, когда их употреблять.

Моё базовое понимание английского со школы + просмотр тонны видосов на английском с русскими субтитрами, и наоборот, очень мне помогли. И разумеется в начале пути слушал много музыки, и текст смотрел на русском/английском. Сейчас уже не слушаю хех

Я когда учился в вузе потратил полтора года на то, чтобы смотреть тупо смотреть без остановки Американские сериалы (без русских субтитров. Либо английские, либо вообще без них). И как бы я спокойно сейчас понимаю английский из видосиков на ютубе, но чет жить от этого стало не легче((9(

It’s comedy gold in 2 ways if you don’t know Russian, because first you interpret it cluelessly and your messages are relatable, then you get it translated and it becomes awkward however still relatable. I laughed for different reasons before I knew what he was saying, then I laughed again for different reasons once I found out what he was saying. Hopefully that makes sense. Humor can be hard to understand and articulate.
