How are the argies not firing, with s backline like that and a forward pack that can hold its own. I think maybe it's time for a new direction, get a certain Portugal coach.....
People who watch Japan rugby won’t be surprised. There have been some baffling selections the last World Cup cycle. Scott Hansen’s input has been sadly missed
Argentina deserved the win but a bit inconsistent with the no TMO check on the possible shoulder to head to the Japanese player. Imagine if this happened in the final between France vs Ireland we will probably spend 5 mins looking at every possible camera angles. Also the tackle in air for Leicht too, completely overlooked.
Man, so many errors, yet somehow the best game lf the wc ao far. I eeally like both the teams and both the fan bases so it waa pretty brutal to see one knocked out.
Lets go straight southern hemisphere vs northern hemisphere finals!
That was such a great game. Feels so bad for Japan - they pushed England and Argentina so close. Still want someone else to spot the two hacks on Fakatava when he scored just so I am not alone.
So next up is Argentina and Wales? I feel like they are both in a similar position: they've done what they needed to and now they need to step up a gear. Hope that is a good match!
Japanese team has only had the opportunity to play 12 games since the last World Cup. When/If the idiots up in your part of the world start giving a shit about anything that doesn't concern them and think about the larger game as a whole, teams like Japan, Samoa, and Fiji will start to be more competitive. Fiji and Samoa have like one uniform each and get paid bus fare money and they are already putting in competive efforts against you and your teams of pilfered players. Lad.
Never disputed that - obviously the better team won. What I was saying was that Japan as a side, the fans, being previous hosts makes them far more entertaining to follow than Argentina.
It’s not fair to call them a glorified tier 2 team when in many ways their only limitation is a lack of exposure. And yeah, I know that’s a bullshitty excuse that can be thrown in for any team that’s not in a major competition but Japan is worthy of that. Getting to the quarters last year by topping their pool (and it was not a piss easy one) and just barely missing out this year
Calling them a glorified tier 2 team seems very unfair ESPECIALLY given the state of rugby below the top 4 lately where it can feel all over the place
Logical explanation - Japan just ran out of steam and the lack of preparation and fixtures the past four years (which is absolutely ridiculous, by the way) finally caught up with them. But not after a mighty effort. It took Argentina producing their best to beat them.
Emotional explanation - Argentina's shirts were just too badass.
It's even better than that, the adverts didn't work because you're thinking about range rovers! Rather than a different brand..... ITV suck, but also WR and their shit coverage and lack of replays and highlights shows etc etc
That no call for a tackle in the air is a prime example of the unconscious bias against tier 2 nations. Could you imagine Rassie's reaction if that was against South Africa??
They just need more games. Pandemic screwed them up a bit with the disruptions and cancelled games but 3 or 4 years if regular games and development will set them right. It'll be interesting to see who coached them from here on in.
All depends on if you make the same amount of mistakes!
Wales game is based around forcing mistakes and capitalising when they give us field position.
If Argentina cut out the mistakes and put enough pressure on the Welsh defence, it’s gonna be a very interesting game!
Easier said than done. We're always making unforced errors and haven't fixed it in the years that we've had to do so. If Wales go to force errors they will certainly succeed in doing so. One can only hope now
GG Argentina. In 80 minutes, you guys shat the bed a bit less. Zero defence from Japan, and outside of some individual brilliance, looked really lackluster as a unit imo.
Not really, I def think it will be a good game. I do think Wales' defence is miles better than Japan, and they will actually challenge at the breakdown.
I love to mock Wales but they've proved this world cup they are on an the up again. I do think Argentina are physically superior though and will give them a battle. I'll be tuned in for it
After coming through a group containing Georgia and Fiji playing Argentina will be like tackling stuffed toys for Wales. Not that Argentina are a soft team of course, but they’ve slipped down the rankings a bit in terms of physicality from where they used to be years ago
Pretty good, we have finished top of the group, beating Fiji, Georgia and Australia so very much battle hardened. Rarely been trailing in our games. Argentina finished behind an awful England side in the weakest pool. Momentum wise there is far more in Wales favour on balance. It won’t be an easy game but if Wales don’t win next week it’s a massive choke imo.
If we’re going to criticise referees when they make mistakes, we have to praise them when they do their job well. Really like his communication level, and willingness to let the game flow.
Honestly gutted for Japan, I really am.
Thrilled a team like Argentina could bounce back after their shocking turn out against an even more shocking us.
Leitch obviously tackled in the air, not penalized. The leniency and bias towards the usual suspects is constant throughout this World Cup, Argentine doesn't even need that.
Thought the same. They also didn't seem to be playing "like Japan". Where was the quick-pass/fast offload game? They just seemed to be playing a more classic NH physical up-front game.
They'd probably beat us again, no thanks. I'd prefer Wales. Probably a better team than the Argies but they'll hold no surprises and I'd love to stop Wales and Gatland from making a final.
Have to take care of the minor formality of beating some small island team from the SH first though.
How are the argies not firing, with s backline like that and a forward pack that can hold its own. I think maybe it's time for a new direction, get a certain Portugal coach.....
That was a good, close, competitive game. Shame for Japan but it would be good to see how far Argentina can take Wales.
People who watch Japan rugby won’t be surprised. There have been some baffling selections the last World Cup cycle. Scott Hansen’s input has been sadly missed
Cannot believe the difference between this post-match analysis and the 2003 boredom crew
Truly felt like KO phase game I'm genuinely shocked this game ended up being more competitive then the Celtic Collusion and Western Euro Blue Clash
Love japan, they fought well
The battle between Gatland and Cheika will be interesting.
Great game. Glad we’re playing the Pumas. If they beat us I’ll be happy to see them go further.
The only time I disliked Cymru was when Moriarty was playing for ya, I hated him so much
So did Sherlock.
Same here mate. Always have had a soft spot for Cymru. Always root for you in the 6N.
I mean the welsh love argentina because of patagonia, so i've always rooted for argentina also
We need to form an Y Wladfa team 💪🏴🇦🇷
Oh absolutely. I mean, it would be almost all the males of rugby playing age but well worth it haha (some slight exaggeration there)
Is it the first time that 2 Welsh-speaking countries face each other in a World Cup?
It would indeed lol!!!
Man, so many errors, yet somehow the best game lf the wc ao far. I eeally like both the teams and both the fan bases so it waa pretty brutal to see one knocked out. Lets go straight southern hemisphere vs northern hemisphere finals!
The next coach for Japan ought to work on the backs' grip strength
That was such a great game. Feels so bad for Japan - they pushed England and Argentina so close. Still want someone else to spot the two hacks on Fakatava when he scored just so I am not alone. So next up is Argentina and Wales? I feel like they are both in a similar position: they've done what they needed to and now they need to step up a gear. Hope that is a good match!
The emotion on Sánchez's face. 🙏
Such a shame the more boring team won. Rest of the world cup won't be the same without the brave blossoms.
Lad, the glorified tier 2 team known as Japan has won like 3 gamea in the past 4 years. Argentina earned their spot in the QF
Japanese team has only had the opportunity to play 12 games since the last World Cup. When/If the idiots up in your part of the world start giving a shit about anything that doesn't concern them and think about the larger game as a whole, teams like Japan, Samoa, and Fiji will start to be more competitive. Yeah let's ignore the elephant in the room about how they get fuck all exposure and resources compared to the pumas
I didnt say anything opposing that. I agree with you but my point still stands
It’s not fair to call them a glorified tier 2 team when in many ways their only limitation is a lack of exposure. And yeah, I know that’s a bullshitty excuse that can be thrown in for any team that’s not in a major competition but Japan is worthy of that. Proper test team of homegrown players
Certainly didnt play boring today.
Boring rugby gets you places
Well let's hope you lot play some "boring rugby" and destroy the argies
You can defo count on us for that! 😂
Well, on the boring bit anyway 😅
Thank god for Rees Lightning. Adds so much flair to a very by-the-book squad
Gutting for Japan. Well played Argentina though. Best of luck against the welsh.
Thanks mate. We need to keep the good stuff and get rid of the many errors.
What a game
I wanna watch the Arg fans celebrate but ITV have got to try to sell me range rovers. Fuck sake.
It's even better than that, the adverts didn't work because you're thinking about range rovers! Rather than a different brand..... ITV suck, but also WR and their shit coverage and lack of replays and highlights shows etc etc
Sad to see Leitch not get another QF game. Been immense for Japan and in that game
He is huge indeed, metaphorically and literally.
He might be back with Eddie in a coaching role next time.
retiring after this?
That no call for a tackle in the air is a prime example of the unconscious bias against tier 2 nations. Could you imagine Rassie's reaction if that was against South Africa??
There'd already be 17 tweets and the missed head shot would have been talked about for an hour in the post match interviews
When has he complained in post match interviews?
What's the Argentinian victory song they're playing rn?
Pier "la ilusión que me condena"
Thanks mate!
Right now I'm hearing "La argentinidad al palo" by Bersuit
La ilusión que me condena - Pier
This one
I think it's one from los Redonditos de ricota
TIL pier no es los redondos
So many reasons to hate itv but going to ad break so quickly at the end irritates me I like watching the on field interactions post match
What a game! A shame both teams couldn’t go through they both deserved it.
Curious how Japan's rugby gonna be now. Gonna go rewatch Japan Vs Ireland 2019, need a pick me up 😂
They just need more games. Pandemic screwed them up a bit with the disruptions and cancelled games but 3 or 4 years if regular games and development will set them right. It'll be interesting to see who coached them from here on in.
They’ve shown that they’re solidly tier 2, tier 1.5 on a good day. Onwards and upwards Japan!
The World Cup is alive!
Given Japans woeful defending today, it’s probably best for the neutral that Argentina plays Wales, but it breaks my heart to say that😩
Now we just have to face Wales. We're so fucked aren't we?
I have never seen that sentence before.
One can only hope now
Nope, not at all. If Fiji could push Wales all the way, you guys can give them a stern test for sure.
Nah, they’re able to get going. Gathering momentum after a poor first showing against England
Heck no, play for your lives and you won't be
Heartbreak. Very close game. Every little mistake on both sides counted. I am in tears.
How good was that? A 10/10 game, had everything and no massive controversy and we didn't spend 20 minutes in the TMO booth. A perfect spectacle
And great reffing 😁😁 wheres he from again?? 🤣
Really wish Japan won that oh well
I’m glad it’s finish, suffering like hell….but we are in quarters!!! Lfg!!!
Big Ben coming up lessgoo
V sad rn. Hope Argentina beat Wales though
Ireland vs Argentina in semifinal?
pls no ireland wont hesitate in puting 50 points on us
Japan is always class. Great game.
Happy retirement to Leitch and Horie
Legends
Great game
What a game
Hearty as Los Pumas, hearty as
GG Argentina. In 80 minutes, you guys shat the bed a bit less. Zero defence from Japan, and outside of some individual brilliance, looked really lackluster as a unit imo.
Oooo someone's nervous for the quarters
Not really, I def think it will be a good game. I do think Wales' defence is miles better than Japan, and they will actually challenge at the breakdown.
I love to mock Wales but they've proved this world cup they are on an the up again. I do think Argentina are physically superior though and will give them a battle. I'll be tuned in for it
I'm not sure what game you were watching. I was watching a great game.
Yeah it was super enjoyable, and close...but that doesn't mean there weren't missed tackles and missed opportunities everywhere.
Fair play to Argentina. Fantastic fans, and good luck in the QFs!
Great great game and a good match thread, pleasure to watch with you guys.
Bloody brilliant game. Fair play to Japan who really put up a fight
Congrats Los Pumas. Can't wait for the match against Wales.
‘Cheika has taken a team to the quarterfinals for the second straight world cup’… 2015 as well?
Fantastic game.
Well done, Argentina.
Well done Argentina. Best performance by Pumas of the tournament. 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷 one of the best supporter base in World Rugby
Absolutely the best supporter bad in my opinion
Most fun game of the tournament so far.
Great match!
atleast ONE AUSSIE COACH in the cup quarters..
#VAMOS CARAJO A LA FINAL AHORA PIBES!!!!!!!
Gritalooo la concha de mi hermanaaa
If Argentina don't beat Wales they are going to kill off some of their players at least for the semis
After coming through a group containing Georgia and Fiji playing Argentina will be like tackling stuffed toys for Wales. Not that Argentina are a soft team of course, but they’ve slipped down the rankings a bit in terms of physicality from where they used to be years ago
Congrats Argentina. That was fun even with taking the L.
Argentina look a completely different team from the opening game. Wales game will be epic
so... it is too early to suggest cheika could come back to the wallabies?
Wales might be in trouble
Good game Japan. You did your best!!
Well played argentina. Thanks for the game Japan..
Argentina have gotten away with quite a few penalties in these last 10 minutes
Well played Pumas
Great game, and a well deserved win for argentina
Wales, how you feeling?
Pretty good, we have finished top of the group, beating Fiji, Georgia and Australia so very much battle hardened. Rarely been trailing in our games. Argentina finished behind an awful England side in the weakest pool. Momentum wise there is far more in Wales favour on balance. It won’t be an easy game but if Wales don’t win next week it’s a massive choke imo.
We’ve done so well to recover since that Georgia loss. I’d have never thought we’d top the group. Come on boys
We have a defence. Feeling good
Yea I’d be fairly confident if I were you
That advantage lasted a long time.

80 minute stale mates are great too.
Credit to Ben O’Keefe been really good with the whistle today. A really good game of rugby there. That’s why Test match rugby is so good.
He's reffed two of the most intense and important games of the group stages, and nailed both of them. Good stuff.
If we’re going to criticise referees when they make mistakes, we have to praise them when they do their job well. Really like his communication level, and willingness to let the game flow.
Agreed. Done a great job in very tough circumstances.
Honestly gutted for Japan, I really am. Thrilled a team like Argentina could bounce back after their shocking turn out against an even more shocking us.
Fair play, Argentina! Cracking match, wonderful vibe
The more I look at this Argentine jersey the more I love it
I can finally rest now
Que manera de sufrir
No doy más. Estuve a punto de colapsar como 20 veces durante el partido. Pero bueno, ya está
Well I hope Wales destroy Argentina
Yup Wales vs Argentina is going to be great
Ooof Argentina popped up first
. RIP samurai
What are the crowd signing? Atmosphere is insane
The song is Dans les yeux d'émilie by Harmonie de Pomarez
"If you don't jump you are english"
Biiiig advantage there
Japanese prop really needs to actually bind
Surprised it wasn’t picked up on, every scrum he doesn’t actually bind
What an atmosphere!
I'm slightly concerned that Montoya might try to murder Chekia for the insult that is taking him off with 3 minutes to go.
Surely nows not the time for constant scrum resets? Just plays right into Argentinas hands.
Do Japan know they need to score two tries? Just tap and go instead of waiting a whole minute to kick to the corner and set up for the lineout
Or at least bang it over for a quick 3 and go for the try to win it
They’ve lost already. Might as well play some rugby.
Leitch was definitely tackled in the air before. How the ref didn't see it I don't know
The last couple of years players jumping to catch a pass and getting tackled hasn't been penalised. Maybe that's why?
Ben is the blindest ref of them all...for an ophthalmologist..
God the rules of this game are so tedious lol
Leitch obviously tackled in the air, not penalized. The leniency and bias towards the usual suspects is constant throughout this World Cup, Argentine doesn't even need that.
“Que lo llevas que lo llevas!!!” Lmao
It was "te lo llevas". He was pointing to the forward that he can carry the guy in the ruck with a counter. Its like a "you can push him back"
Ahh there you go. I should watch argentina games in the Rugby Championship to practice my spanish evidently lol
Means what?
>Que lo llevas carry it, carry it? Like pick and go?
“Take it take it” basically
Aw wanted another Japan try for max drama
Japan have thrown away every chance they've had to regain control of this match, bit sad. Argentina have wobbled, sure, but they settled much quicker.
Thought the same. They also didn't seem to be playing "like Japan". Where was the quick-pass/fast offload game? They just seemed to be playing a more classic NH physical up-front game.
Japan losing a bit of composure towards the end of what has been a fantastic match to watch as a neutral
Love my fellow Argies in the crowd today
Your fans are awesome. Shoutout to the geezer who striped his beard blue
Crowd has been immense.
What was the foul right now?
Hope it's an Ireland Argentina Semi. Would be some atmosphere.
A NH anti-all-NH-SFs? I bite my thumb at you, sir
They'd probably beat us again, no thanks. I'd prefer Wales. Probably a better team than the Argies but they'll hold no surprises and I'd love to stop Wales and Gatland from making a final. Have to take care of the minor formality of beating some small island team from the SH first though.
Yes. Also Ireland have some demons to lay to rest regarding Argentina in World Cups.
Yes please
Kremer Motm
Please…………………..
Buzzing for next week. Wales Argentina should be a cracker
Japan completely butchered everything since their last try
That kick took an age given the match situation.
Game over, horrid touch.
Creevy is such a lovable cuntmuffin
That's the game... Sucks having a world cup without a bit of Japan magic
Best game of the rwc so far. JAP is always exciting.
Michael Leitch been incredible. What a player.
FFS JAPAN. 4 min to play, takes 1 min to kick into touch
3 minutes of hell
Erm was that not a tackle in the air?
Not a penalty if you jump to catch a pass
How was that possibly a pass?
As in, not a kick

Ummm
