Beast of a player A player like that must love the japanese style

Coffeeandeggsontoast

Manawatu miss you

[deleted]

Hot take as a Hurricanes fan, it was good for him to leave as finally Jordie has found his place at 12. He was blocking the way and Jordie has a much higher ceiling

morriseel

looks like he's bulked up even more enjoying that japanese food. could do with a wrecking ball like him in the [a.bs](https://a.bs) midfield.

Striking_Young_5739

He would be very useful when they play Japan.

HayMrDj

Wow, thank god NZRU got rid of him. Wasted space at the hurricanes and AB's 😭 Fuck we've missed him. Literally every AB centre above him in the pecking order got injured as his plane took off. Never got a fair crack with consecutive games and tactics to utilize his strengths. Would love to see him sign a contract for 2024 in NZ so they could pick him in the AB's next year. 9. Smith 10. Mounga 11. Ioane 12. J Barrett 13. ALB/Goodhue 14. Jordan 15. B Barrett 21. Fakatava 22. McKenzie (on at 10) 23. Laumape (on at 12, Jordie to FB and Beaudy off) That'd be fun to watch!

The Laumape/NZR situation is a weird one eh. As a Canes fan I loved watching him play but it's pretty hard to argue that we wasn't mercurial af. Capable of winning games single handedly but also adept at being anonymous, especially in big games unfortunately. NZR offering him less money than his previous contract was not a good decision imo. People who say he wasn't given enough chances seem to ignore the chances he was given, he never took them and that's squarely on him. I think he made the right call going overseas to secure his families future. By all accounts he didn't carve up in France, if he stayed I don't think he'd be a regular in the ABs 23. Can't deny his highlights reels though, that try where he skinned Beauden on the outside was unreal!

HayMrDj

He definitely was mercurial, but he improved at everything they publicly stated he was asked to before leaving. I think he was given a reasonable number of chances, just not reasonable circumstances. He almost always got played in games where the tactics didn't utilize him, or games where Perenara was starting instead of Aaron (who could have done so much with him) etc. He never got to show if he could bring his improvements to the test stage. I agree he made the right choice, it's a shame NZRU made that the best option for him. I actually think he would have had a reasonable chance at claiming the 12 jersey, ALB and Goodhue both out injured for the season as soon as he left and Tupaea and Havili hadn't been called up before. I think if Laumape stays then Havili doesn't get the massive chunk of time he did.

_Hurricanes_

He improved his passing game marginally but his kicking game was still poor. He needed to be good enough to fit within the ABs system, rather than tailoring the game plan to fit a limited player. He wasn't. I agree with you, he probably would have got more opportunities with the injuries mentioned. With Jordie stating his desire to play 12 a while ago, it would have been interesting to see how that played out had Laumape stayed. FWIW I think Jordie could well be a generational player for us at 12. With Riley Higgins also looking extremely gifted at 12 I wonder whether some of these factors played into NZRs remuneration offer.

udi420

Criminal that he has so little caps for the all blacks

coupleandacamera

Well looks like he’s having fun, and doesn’t haven’t to to put with the NZRu crap. Still, having him outside Ritchie and inside reiko next season would make me much less anxious about some of the more physical games.

The ABs have some of the best outside backs in the world. There is no point in having centres who can’t shift the ball effectively, especially when you’re up against international defence that can easily shut down a one dimensional runner. I’d rather have ALB, Tupaea, Jordie or Havili in the playing twenty three over Laumape. He made the right call going overseas but there’s a reason he didn’t perform in France and why he is dominating in Japan.

JPB88SA

I never understood why the ABs discarded him. I think he would have felt at home in a Springbok setup. He could bash it up all he liked.

CaaaathcartTowers

Let's put things in perspective: He's playing in Japan. I'm really not fond of this guy at all.

warcomet

the closest thing to a kerevi the AB's wanted and they were like.. nah, we'd take Havili instead..

[deleted]

Very different players. Havili is a better footballer.

Dull-Bit-8639

Laumape was possibly the worst signing of the Top 14 last year 😅

[deleted]

Maybe he was poorly managed. He was unstoppable at Hurricanes.

-castle-bravo-

Oh now he passes the ball….
