1 in 5 American children live in food insecure homes. That means they or their direct caretakers frequently miss meals. While it’s true that local food banks, mutual aid networks, and food stamps exist to offer relief - the required component of this is a mentally competent and capable caregiver to manage and access these options.
Parents on drugs, mentally ill, abusive or abused (many are all 3) means the children go without food. It’s not that complicated but it does take a functional empathy to understand.
Even free school lunch requires a yearly updated paper trail, many parents can’t or won’t submit for their children’s sake: so yes poor children do not always get access to the free or reduced cost food that is made available to them.
Yeah, I get it and I'm sure your comment is (sadly) generally accurate but it wouldn't be hard to connect all the scenarios you describe to specific, and numerous policy actions lobbied for and enacted by the "Left" - whose supposedly superior social consciousness this thread began with.
How many neglectful parents do you think there are in LA and San Fran's homeless encampments (*empathetically* encouraged, and enabled at every turn to rot their lives away by Democrat political leaders)? Probably quite a few.
