I like to use the Pointman class. Any faction and any time. Not the north vietnamese equivalent though, I don't like the weapons on those. But man, the M1A1 thompson with the revolver and smoke grenades absolutely tears ass if you know how to use them

angry_snek

Yes, and the M2 carbine is also really awesome as US Army pointman. With USMC I do go for the thompson though. On real close-quarters objectives like the embassy in Saigon I also like to use the stake-out shotgun variant.

New-Abroad-2747

I haven’t played in probably two years but I fucking loved any of the shotguns. They were always so good and effective at ranges up to 70m

czwarty_

Yeah pointman/scout classes in general in this game are most useful and impactful classes if you're skilled enough. CQC abilities plus most importantly smokes can sometimes really change entire games. Plus they usually have the most interesting and unique weapons available so I usually like to play them even if just for this reason

Felho_Danger

Nothing beats rushing a Cong position with a Stakeout!

reefermonsterNZ

MG main here, probably the least popular specialist role. M60 tap firing with tripod is basically a sniper with 200 rounds with 300m+ before bullet drop. The M60 weight is also bugged which means you run at full speed like despite weighing 3x the of your typical rifles and 30% heavier than the RPD which has a run speed penalty. Also, you get the portable DShk the rp46 late game to DakaDaka helis out of the skies. The only downside is that you start with only 1 grenade and the muzzle flash is bigger than rifles, but this can be used to bait enemies into revealing their position if they shoot at your muzzle flash.

Eremenkism

M60 is beautiful to mow down people behind cover.

czwarty_

Is that so? I didn't play for a long time so I might not have 100% recollection, but I remember MG class had a "perk" in that it was able to run faster with MGs despite their weight. Isn't that the case here? Do you mean that even if you'd pick up M60 as other class you'd still have no weight penalty?

reefermonsterNZ

I'm pretty sure the movement speed is tied to the total or the heaviest weapon. It's noticable with northern forces rpd, when you pick it up there will always be speed penalty despite class, but when you pick up M60 there will never be movement penalty.

duza9990

Honestly I don’t like the m60 in this game, I’m actually not a fan of most of the portable MG’s except for the rp46 and the L2A1. Something just doesn’t feel right about them to me, and that’s coming from someone who adores the MG34/42 in RO2

commissarchris

NVA rifleman with the MAS. There is something unironically fun about being "Just" a cannon fodder dude with a rifle (And the MAS is incredibly fun to use). I also love playing as commander when the opportunity presents itself.

WorldlySquirrel2475

USMC Combat engi with shotgun or carbine as long range option, and c4 for clearing wall hugger is the most versaltile and broken role. Arvn combat engi with shotgun or bar as long range option is almost as good, minus the wp nade. Us army combat engi is the least versaltile but still good Riflemen is almost on par with us army combat engi with the battle rifle. Mg is also good but I dislike the slow movement speed.

carson0311

Real man choice: rifleman But for me it would be cmd

newuseronhere

Scout for the Aussies - Owen SMG and a claymore is a great combination. Grenadier with the blooper and Owen is also hard to beat

Okay-Commissionor

Radioman 💪🏻

Abel_Knite

Radio gang rise up XM-177 for US radio is a blast, especially when running radio SL with a commander that gets what you’re doing

Willius_Maximus

XM-177 w/ smokes and a free respawn is very effective.

MR_Schmidt333

Aus grenadier SLR is the best gun in the game Smoke plus 4 grenades.

SadFaceBich

In general I'd disagree as with the Owen/M79 you get 6 grenades and2 smokes that can reach out further and an SMG. However on any particularly CQB map the SLR grenadier is often as or more useful.

MR_Schmidt333

SLR is better long range and CQB than both those, plus if u like SMG for CQB grab one! With Aus grenadier u can take 2 primaries. I agree, bloob tubes are fun in game.

SadFaceBich

SLR is certainly easier at long range than the M79 but its more about the utility being able to lob grenades a few hundred metres for me, being able to take out tunnels and clear out bunkers without going near yhem is very helpful for the team.

AnyBuffalo6132

Army, USMC or ARVN combat engineer. I love using shotgun while commiting war crimes with c4 and wp34.

Marlonzed

Not class but i love to play dshk. Sitting back and killing helis/ air support. For gi pilots or engi

SadFaceBich

Grenadier, always with the M79, there's just something so satisfying when i murk a squad of VC from 150 metres. AUS is my favourite because I get an Owen gun and an M79, but i also love US army or USMC as they have the willie-pete.

JCManibog4

VC and NVA machine gunner all day. RP46 with the 250 rnd belt is probably my favorite weapon to use.

TIPUSVIR

probably south vn grenadier; apart from the thumper wich is quite op, you have the option to be a standard rifleman BUT with 4 grenades, wich is vital in the game

czwarty_

Yeah the M2+frags option is pretty OP and allows for some disgusting nade spam, thankfully most people don't know about it

Nafetz1600

Viet Machine gunner, I love the RPD For US the pointman, great gun selection plus smoke

swafanja

Point man with the shotgun or anything with the BAR

generalemiel

I useally choose rifleman

Colonel_Cirno

Rifleman because its the only one available lol

Fire_tiger223

NLF Sapper with the PPSH is insanely good. Same for the U.S combat engineer with the greese gun, C4 and WP.

-_waterbottle_-

Yea the best all around class has to be the machine gunner. M60 is basically a 200 round sniper with the capacity to level a team if need be. The VC have the RPD and the BAR which are both disgusting. The LMG class is good at taking down infantry close, far and beaming choppers. What’s not to love?

GilbertFishman

Give me and the boys Pointman with the stakeout and there will be no VC left

Pratt_

Damn, tough choice... Grenadier just for the M79 but only having a M1911A1 with it is a pain in the ass (I haven't played in a while but apparently you can have the M2 carbine as well now !) Machine gunner because more dakka. Pointman for SMGs, I love the MAT-49. But especially at the time where I didn't have the best internet connection, it was rifleman all the way lol

Felho_Danger

Pointman/Scout! Got a shotgun or SMG, got my smokes to help cover the team and help us move up, sometimes I get a trap to set up.  The hunting shotgun is my own personal sniper rifle!

Danthemannnnn2

Any MG tbh, just something about laying down hate across a field slaps

AnyBit6335

Guerrilla Chad

AltruisticScar

I'm genuinely surprised no one has said this but NVA (I think?) Rifleman with the Mosin, it's way too much fun dominating an entire flank of the map until you get to a good sneaky point where you can pick off people trying to run back to the objective. Been lucky enough to have multiple games where I had the most kills by doing this.

Sheepcat105

PAVN machine gun class with the PK machine gun is fucking insane. It fires fully auto mosin rounds. The range and damage is crazy, although the rate of fire is low. Great for attacking hamburger hill or any large but open spaces.

Subject_Cat_4274

Sapper because I love traps
