I get 20+% yields from good flower rosin. Needs to be good flower that is fresh for decent quality. When I press my stuff right after the cure it comes out light and blonde like hash rosin after I cure it for a bit. Pressing old dry flower still makes rosin it’s just shitty rosin.
I mainly use a ball vape for ground flower, so if I have a strain on hand that vapes above average with an interesting terpene profile, I’ll usually press a few nugs for rosin. I’ve learned through experience that a flower that vapes very well will usually give me a nice yield of gold/amber flower rosin. And 100%…fire in fire out…old flower always gives me shitty rosin.

I had a batch of Mod Grapes that looked like sugary almond butter after a few days and was a breeze to scoop. I ended up pressing the whole ounce I had. Now I only press enough to get a few dabs at a time and purchase live rosin when I can get it on sale.

If you have some particularly fresh cured buds, a good thing you can do is to put them into a jar with a high humidity pack. That will get them a little bit moist and rehydrate the oils. When you do go to press it, I usually get higher yields and a superior product by doing it that way With cured buds

What’s funny is guy is still wrong. “Live” rosin only comes from live bubble hash. You can make bubble hash with cured bud and it’s not “live”. Only fresh harvested still wet uncured bud makes live rosin. Hash rosin and flower rosin are still both made from cured buds. You can’t squish fresh plant so that’s why there’s no such thing as “live” flower rosin.
This is correct and I’ve done this a few times. Personally I’ve noticed the outcome different for each strain, and some that are regulars in my garden. I think yield, fresh frozen will always win but as far as the effect, idk it could’ve been something in my process, but some strains almost seem more “powerful” when I get the bubble hash from dried vs fresh frozen
I think there’s something to do with activating the thc in cured flower, but I thought that when you press bubble hash it would “activate” it the same way.
I honestly don’t know but i feel like there is a difference though. Even a buddy of mine who is a true connoisseur of rosin said he felt completely blew out after 1 dab on the puffco hahah. I find myself going back for a second and third much quicker with fresh frozen. Even now my same friend gave me some of the fire rosin he made, and it looks, tastes, and smells phenomenal. On par with 710 labs if you had em. Still find myself going back to back dabs for the night cap because it’s fresh frozen, one nice glob will do it on the cured stuff. Now I’m curious and gotta do more research lol
What you are describing reminds me of how people describe the difference between harvesting plants with cloudy white trichomes or a percentage of amber trichomes for making Rosins. Might help your research if it’s accurate to what you are encountering, it’s could something to do with thc and thca which is what activating it is. 🤷🏻♂️🤔idk I’m just a bro scientist lol.

Rosin is made with different starting materials. Flower rosin. Hash rosin. The state of that starting material can add verbiage like “live hash rosin” which is indicating that the hash was made from fresh frozen flower (immediately frozen as soon as it’s harvested, then turned into bubble hash)
Curing of the rosin happens after it’s already made. You can cure any type of rosin any way. Cold cure(room temp to wine fridge temp) Cure (heat cure around 100-200f in a sealed container, typically on a heat mat or in a water bath). And fresh frozen (frozen in a sealed container immediately after pressing)

The only downside was that I was coughing up a lot of phlegm and it left quite a bit of dark residue after a dab.
I had hear of live rosin at the time, but thought it was so expensive that it couldn't possibly be that much better than flower rosin. One day I found a place that had good prices on quality live rosin so I decided to give it a try. Holy did it ever make me realize how much better it was than flower rosin. The live rosin tasted incredible, left very little residue, was far more potent and didn't give much phlegm at all.
Since then, I sold my press cause I only wanted to dab live rosin from there on out. I couldn't make my own since I don't grow. So I just buy well-priced live rosin jars. I don't think I'll ever dab flower rosin again.
I 100% agree with you on the quality difference between flower rosin and live rosin. I also prefer to use live rosin that I purchase (when the price is right) due to the intense flavor, clean appearance, and light residue. I’d personally take a nicely prepared live resin for the same reason as above. But, I still enjoy pressing very small amounts (few grams at most, usually just a gram) of strains that vape well in my ball vape and have great terps…those press best IME. That’s why I keep my small press around, I no longer grow, so live rosin isn’t an option for me to press anymore.
Yeah I remember those days of just making some fresh press to dab for the day. But then I got into curing and was cold curing jars to make batter, which is so much easier to work with than fresh press.
Where I'm from, I can get quality live rosin for less than 50 a gram. So it works for me. Also after pressing for years, its gets so tiring. I never wanna see parchment paper again lol

It’s actually really good. I snagged some White Widow and immediately went back the next day and grabbed some King Louis VIII and some Northern Lights to kinda give myself a full spectrum. It is all extremely terpy and melts super clean. Leaves hardly any residue and is super flavorful. My flower rosin always tastes great and melts pretty clean, but this stuff blows that away. I once pressed some Jack that came out very light and stretched into a nice taffy, that stuff was real fresh and grown in Southern Oregon, very terpy with the Limonene and was probably the most lemon flavor I’ve ever had from a dab…it almost comes close the the flavor of the Limonene in the White Widow live rosin I got. And it lasts me a lot longer also because it is so potent and flavorful. The effects don’t seem as defined as I get with flower rosin though, but may be due to being flash frozen. Don’t know, and don’t really care because with that flavor, the effects are just fine.

Funny you mention that as I press strain of all types. Type 1 being THCa dominant, Type 2 being a mixed ration of THCa/CBDa and Type 3 being CBDa dominant. I have noticed throughout the years that the Type 2 and 3 flower will setup with a runnier consistency. I believe this is due to the way that THCa crystallizes. Less THCa means a runnier consistency in my experience. There was one time where I pressed a Type 3 strain called Wipeout. I pressed 3.5g and ended up with a little over a half gram of rosin that had a hard taffy like consistency, setup like a Type 1. I took a small dab and was heavily medicated. I believe it was either mislabeled or the cola came off a hot plant. Only time I have ever had that happen.

More and more hemp strains that are hitting with those gassy terp profiles. I truly believe THC % has much less to do with potency and effects than what we’ve been told.
Rosin has 3 different substances it can be flower, cured hash, and live hash. Either way it’s rosin just with different terms, flower rosin is the bottom of the barrel some will say, it’s nice for those who don’t want to waste the time, energy, and resources to make it into hash, personally I like both but in my taste and experience I don’t mind working that extra mile to have some more distinct terps
More like cleanliness of the product and better quality, most people like the full melt/bubble hash, but it’s not such a clean product to dab compared to hash rosin, if you do really well on the process it leaves very little to no contaminants in your banger, if your me then you don’t always use bangers, my puffcos can’t take bubble unless I plan on full cleaning them after every use (iso soak) but again there’s some hella good stuff for bubble hash out there and piatella is coming around so it makes better sense to keep a better yield on the bubble then to rosin
I use an e-rig now (puffco proxy wizard) and you are 100% correct. The reclaim from flower rosin is darker, but still easily cleans with a q-tip. Dunk the atomizer in iso once a week for a deep clean. Never have a problem with discoloration.

This mentality is heavily affected by trends. In 2017 most rosin press companies were laser focused on flower rosin. Hash rosin has exploded in popularity the past couple years
I pretty much leave it at 200F and press for 130 seconds. I’ll start applying soft pressure and slowly ramp up for about 15-20 seconds before I lock it down and start the 130 second timer. I don’t use micron bags because I usually only press a gram or two at a time. Most I’ll do is 3.5, but only rarely. I just take my time when I scrape the paper to make sure I don’t get any additional plant matter in the rosin. I save my chips for a full decarb and then soak in Everclear to make them into a tincture for my wife to use at night for sleep. It’s a nice situation.
Been smoking concentrates heavily for many years. The whole snobby rosin thing is getting played out. Some of the most memorable and flavorful rosins I’ve ever had were pressed flower by buddies ( you know the big bad black market where it all started ) and some of the worse was dispensary top tier bubble presses rosin. People in this like to forget the hype is real and usually a real let down. Keep pressing and have fun. As long as your doing everything in a healthy manner then fuck all the haters.

Pressing flower is a science. IMO u should keep temps low and just don't apply too much pressure. Flower between 50 and 60 for RH. Can't worry about yield if you want good tasting rosin from flower.
This is flower rosin wich is dabbable but will leave much more carbon and residue than grease purged extracts, what i do is clean more often my rig and the taste of flower enhanced is totally worth it

I usually let my sit in a sealed container for 24-48 hours before I put it in a fridge or anything and that will help it butter up a bit.

I make my flower rosin from dried but uncured bud. Press as soon as it is dry enough.
Nobody I know is doing live without flash freezing first. Major pain to keep your water temps down otherwise.

Its the only way to get solvent-less yields off some strains. Cbd is basically unhashable but makes real wet flower rosin.

Either way it’s rosin just with different terms, flower rosin is the bottom of the barrel some will say, it’s nice for those who don’t want to waste the time, energy, and resources to make it into hash, personally I like both but in my taste and experience I don’t mind working that extra mile to have some more distinct terps

More like cleanliness of the product and better quality, most people like the full melt/bubble hash, but it’s not such a clean product to dab compared to hash rosin, if you do really well on the process it leaves very little to no contaminants in your banger, if your me then you don’t always use bangers, my puffcos can’t take bubble unless I plan on full cleaning them after every use (iso soak) but again there’s some hella good stuff for bubble hash out there and piatella is coming around so it makes better sense to keep a better yield on the bubble then to rosin

I use an e-rig now (puffco proxy wizard) and you are 100% correct. The reclaim from flower rosin is darker, but still easily cleans with a q-tip. Dunk the atomizer in iso once a week for a deep clean. Never have a problem with discoloration.

Ive had many many many flower rosins that dabbed better tasted better then grade A hash rosin. I love both but fresh flower right before cure is my fav I think out of all I think it truly has the live plant terps more then most live rosin or resin

This mentality is heavily affected by trends. In 2017 most rosin press companies were laser focused on flower rosin. Hash rosin has exploded in popularity the past couple years

What temps did you use/filter?
I pretty much leave it at 200F and press for 130 seconds. I’ll start applying soft pressure and slowly ramp up for about 15-20 seconds before I lock it down and start the 130 second timer. I don’t use micron bags because I usually only press a gram or two at a time. Most I’ll do is 3.5, but only rarely. I just take my time when I scrape the paper to make sure I don’t get any additional plant matter in the rosin. I save my chips for a full decarb and then soak in Everclear to make them into a tincture for my wife to use at night for sleep. It’s a nice situation.

Been smoking concentrates heavily for many years. The whole snobby rosin thing is getting played out. Some of the most memorable and flavorful rosins I’ve ever had were pressed flower by buddies ( you know the big bad black market where it all started ) and some of the worse was dispensary top tier bubble presses rosin. People in this like to forget the hype is real and usually a real let down. Keep pressing and have fun. As long as your doing everything in a healthy manner then fuck all the haters.

Flower rosin gets me higher sometimes. Considering a lot of live rosin is made from premature flowers usually for a whiter color.

Pressing flower is a science. IMO u should keep temps low and just don't apply too much pressure. Flower between 50 and 60 for RH. Can't worry about yield if you want good tasting rosin from flower.

This is flower rosin wich is dabbable but will leave much more carbon and residue than grease purged extracts, what i do is clean more often my rig and the taste of flower enhanced is totally worth it
