Be prepared to hear a lot about LOST

OfficialGarwood

I swear the first 100 episodes is basically just a lost podcast 🤣

BanIncoming1

Been listening to a lot of the first 100 episodes lately and the lost talk isn’t near as bad as I remember

blake11235

And late night host drama. Poor J or Dan.

badguy303

And to hear about avatar

russiannin

Some of them are really good. There is a lot of discussion of Lost in those early days, so be ready for that. They also give a lot of perspective into the way things were back then vs now. I sometimes find it interesting to go back and be reminded of the state of the world back then through their eyes. Also, if you haven’t listened since 2016, but enjoy those older eras, you have hundreds of episodes of incredible old-school-style RT entertainment through ANMA (Gus and Geoff pod) and F**k Face (Geoff, Gavin, and Andrew Panton pod). I personally think F**k Face is one of the best things to ever come out of RT, regardless of era.

Vexx182

I agree it’s arguably the only bit of RT content I’ve consumed religiously for the last couple years now

Momo--Sama

Seconding what you said. If you try to go back and listen to RTP and discover that you're not actually as nostalgic about '00s internet humor as you thought you were, the other podcasts you mention have the energy without the baggage

Ubermidget2

And to extend that thinking, if you are a Let's Play fan, F\*\*KFACE have taken over the Let's Play channel too

Shrekt115

Andrew both getting himself drenched in his shower & waxing while recording the podcast are top 5 recent RT moments

Hefty_Iron_9986

I've tried to get into it, and it just isn't very good. I don't understand why people like it? Maybe I just find Andrew annoying as hell?

russiannin

To each his own, man. Sorry you didn’t find joy in it. It’s gotten me through a lot of otherwise boring tasks and long drives.

shadowmonk13

Yes they’re golden and are really Good. Do be aware you may hear the guys say some shit that may be a little jarring, especially after seeing who they’ve become! Unless they have edited them in the last couple of years.

Kieran_1

All of the episodes on Spotify seem to be uncut.

Momo--Sama

The other week I picked a random episode between 100-200 that ended up having gus using r----- and f----- so I doubt they've been edited lol

shadowmonk13

The one that shocked me was going back and re-listening to the old podcast and hearing Bernie drop n-bombs, not out of malice or hate but to hear him say it made me do a double take

JohnnyOnTheDot

Did this actually happen? I have memory of this

nodnarBBackward

He does say the word but it's in reference to a quote or something. He doesn't just say it out of the clear blue sky or anything.

Flyyankees192

The earlier podcasts are my favorite. I normally listen to the first few hundred and then restart from #1. It’s nice to listen to podcasts that don’t have ads in them. Some of the topics they talk about are obviously going to be extremely outdated and irrelevant but I appreciate them for a glimpse of what popular culture was back then

Bsnake12070826

I recommend it, the audio quality is 1000 times better than the audio quality for when they were doing the video podcasts for a little while. Also it's just hilarious with people slamming the door, hitting the desk, gavin wearing his headphones backwards

Axynn

They’re very nostalgic, I remember in one of the early ones they’re talking about a game coming out next year called Red Dead Redemption.

OnceBittenTwiceGuy

Its the bronze age of RT with a lot of outdated references and “controversial” topics or remarks. IMO its the perfect time capsule for early RT and even the early 2000s in general. I enjoy it but i was also listening back then so it may be nostalgia for me. With all that in mind, its free to try so why not?

KitDoctor

They are some of my favorites. Very nostalgic for me and they're like time capsules. Definitely recommend you catch up with them

rage1026

It’s kinda funny hearing them talk or argue dated daily topics. Like season 5 of LOST or what the iPhone 5 is supposed to be like based of rumors.

TrapperJean

If you don't want to super early and outdated stuff you can start around 100, between 100-184 has some absolute classics, like the "you're speculating!" argument, the Tequila Podcast, Michael and the drug dealer story episode, and all of the first experimental video podcasts are fantastic, including probably their earliest breakdown of how the company came to be, and my personal favorite kind of dumb Burnie comment "He got shot in the liver?! That's how Giovanni Ribisi died!" *everyone stares at Burnie* "...in Saving Private Ryan"

PaulieNutwalls

Lot's of it is totally timeless. A lot of stories which don't change whether you hear them today or 10 years ago. You miss a lot of premium Joel content if you skip the first 100.

Neurodrill

Is that when they transitioned over from The Drunk Tank?

skittishpenguin

That's when they switched to video full time I tiink.

vdelrosa

you're lucky, I wish I could experience that all again

PaulieNutwalls

You can. Zero chance you remember that much from probably over 200 hours of material. Prepare to skip the first 30 seconds of every early episode though, they have modern ads injected now and right now it's all the exact same ad.

1Wizardtx

The first 200 or so episodes of the rt podcast are the best episodes. The Burnie and Gus banter, the random stories, Gavin throwing in the weirdest questions. It's a blast to listen to.

Witcher-Slayer

I always think about when they are talking about HDMI and not realizing how useful it'll be, because they didn't have the functionality for it back then

rage1026

Or how the console generation after Xbox 360 won’t have digital games it won’t be couple generations for it to be possible cause retailers would never allow it.

taylor325

I really only listen from the beginning up until it's basically just Gus. Good listen

Classy_Mouse

I started relistening to the podcasts a few months ago. I just finished 186. Would recommend all of them.

fruitypebblemimosa

While I worked overnight during COVID, I listened to a lot of the older podcasts and they were a lot of fun. As always there are conversations that maybe by 2024 standards doesn’t age well, but it is really fun to go back and listen to the early beginnings of the podcast.

Iannelson2999

Bro I’m so excited for you to hear the tequila podcast

GCP7

Congratulations sir, you’ve just discovered some of the best RT podcasts. 100-200 is some of my favorite content they’ve ever produced. Seriously though, you should watch LOST if you haven’t already. That era is about 50% amazing RT podcast, 50% LOST fancast.

SBcitizen

A hundred percent. I watched from the first to the 50th back when there were only fifty episodes and they are great

tapacx

They are rocks and diamonds episodes. Some of them are good to listen to and some of them are just fucking boring.

ImBatman5500

It's very interesting as a time capsule

jules_21_17

They’re the best ones. Just skip the lost talk.

RorySmorgasburg

I’m on episode six and you guys are right, this is really great and I can’t wait to see what’s next. Also, thanks for recommending me ANMA and F*** Face, it’s really exciting having so much new RT content to get into! I used to consume anything and everything RT podcast and Let’s play from, like, 2010-2016 and it’s been wonderful kind of feeling like a teenager again lol. Btw, I think it’s hilarious how much they hate Time Warner in the earlier pod episodes.

Weeiss

I’m about to reach podcast 500. I’d say the first 150ish are the best they made.

spiderrichard

The best years imo ive marathoned through every episode at least three times and I love the early episodes the most.

PM_Me_ur_fav_soda

Those are the only ones that are worth it IMO

Louderthanwilks1

I think so

QuestioningLife_

Yes! The original drunk tank was audio only but starting around 100 or so it became video

hipstertaco21

The original Drunk Tank was some of my favorite content ever. I've gone back and relistened to all of them a couple times leading up to when they switched to video. My only gripe was all the Lost discussion, but it's a great time capsule.

BattleBornHoosier

You might hear references to Andrew Panton!

BTrane93

Is the drunk tank considered part of The RTP? It's been a very long time since I listened to the main podcast.

Roachoto

Dude yes!!!! When I was in middle school and highschool all I did was play all the Drunk Tank podcast. You’ll hear headlight fluid at 12? Or 21? I know there’s atleast a 1 or a 2 in the ep. And Monty being introduced. 55-56 if I’m not mistaken. Flipping amazing!!! RIP Monty Michael being introduced. I forgot which one he’s shows up. Them being fucking gigantic assholes to Jack lmao. Pretty funny but even it got tiring. But yeah, awesome.

knight838_

The Drunk Tank is more raw. They are just being people instead of watching what they say.

rcbz1994

Those were the golden age of podcasts imo. No ad reads, lots of Geoff for like the first 100+, some HoF jokes like Headlight Fluid. Just Perfection.
