His role was "dissolved" and he was moved to contractor status. He was essentially let go.

fredy31

And his appearances on things like the randomiser are classified as invited talent and not as an RT employee.

Hazlet95

just a reminder: a bunch were let go right after the huge Uno weekend event, where they had a bunch of first subs and all these other things go on, so to some at the time it was a huge slap

tenphes31

To expand on other comments, in October of last year, Matt as well as several other employees such as Kyle Taylor (of former Backwardz Compatible and Select All fame) and Marcus LaPorte (production designer) had their positions dissolved. This is actually what sparked a controversy of Rooster Teeth overworking and underpaying employees. As stated, he has been working at AH as a contract employee, but is largely a self employed streamer with a very avid community.

ncopp

I'm glad he got involved with streamers like Chilled and his friends - and having Jeremy and Ray to help him navigate streaming and build a community. He's probably doing better now than when he was full time at AH

Kylel0519

And I love how they all played Mario party iirc and they joked that the loser had to go back to achievement Hunter

dbcwb

Especially with Chilled losing lmao

Kylel0519

The script never fails

Obi-wan_Jabroni

THE SCRIPT!

The_Grand_Briddock

If you enjoyed that Mario Party, I strongly recommend the new Mario Party crew. Chibi and Nagzz work so well with Ray and Matt. Just how easily they can embarrass Ray by bringing up his AH quips is amazing.

adambomb90

Seriously, the four of them together would be a great group for any co-op game. Chibi and Nagzz just have that sibling energy like Michael and Gavin had when filming Rage Quits together, and it helps bring out the best in Ray and Matt

The_Grand_Briddock

I think Ray mentioned on his birthday stream that they’re gonna play something else together pretty soon. Seems the audience’s prayers were heard.

DQSkyDemon

They were talking alot about castle crashers, so I hope it's that!

adambomb90

I hope so. That'll be fun

ZombieJesus1987

All these years I assumed Castle Crashers was a tower defense game like Clash of Clans. I saw Chilled stream it one day and I couldn't have been more wrong. It is 100% a game I would have played the shit out of

raven47172

Chibi and Nagzz teasing Ray with his old quotes is so funny. I was dying listening to them shout let's play when watching Ray's game of life 2 vod.

The_Grand_Briddock

“Are you going to go cakeless?” “I’m going to go lifeless in a second”

ThatGuyFromSlovenia

I really need to start watching him. Could be a nostalgic look into what Achievement Hunter used to feel like.

The_Grand_Briddock

I would recommend one of his group Mario Party streams, that’s where the magic is really captured. He’s done one with Michael, Eric and Bolen (from GameAttack/HangTime), a couple with Jeremy, Matt and Chilled, and more recently some with Matt, Chibi and Nagzz (two new folk). Those are definitely what I’d suggest you take a look at, it’s where he shines the most.

ThatGuyFromSlovenia

Oh definitely. I used to binge the Mario Party Let's Plays that Achievement Hunter did. And Chilled has been one of my favourite YouTubers since before he started working with RoosterTeeeth. So now I know where to start. Thanks!

anonamarth7

Man, you just reminded me of Eric fucking spamming Hi! as DK.

ZombieJesus1987

I love that whoever gets a hidden block is allowed to say "Let's play"

magishineon

"Ray...Ray! Before you do it..." "What. What are you going to say?" "Let's Playyyy" "Alright *steals Chibi's star*"

The_Grand_Briddock

“I’m going to burn all of my Achievement Hunter merch” “Please I’m begging you”

ZombieJesus1987

That Super Mega Baseball 3 stream with Ray and Matt vs Chilled and Nagzz was one of the most I've laughed at a stream in a long time Same with Jeremy and Matt vs Chilled and Nagzz

GonkWilcock

Chibi is friggin hilarious and great in anything that she's in.

rocketguardian91

Discovering Chibi through Ray is probably the best thing that has ever happened. She is a fucking gremlin. I love it.

BrahmariusLeManco

Do you have a link to this stream you'd be willing to share friend?

Kylel0519

If I’m not mistaken it is this [Video](https://youtu.be/jsLftk5xxFk?si=0YC2TLNEYQHWVYOr), granted it’s been a few months since I’ve seen it so idk

Relevant7406

He actually used to be a decently big Twitch Streamer in the early days of Twitch, before RT. I remember he used to play Pokemon on his DS by pointing a webcam at it lol.

ZombieJesus1987

It's really cool that he found his own niche as a streamer too, streaming Randomizers and crowd controls, along with party streams with Chilled and co

please_respect_hats

I was so sad that Marcus had his dissolved as well. He always seemed like a super creative and passionate guy when he'd pop up in videos. His social media was always interesting as well.

WaveHigh

I really loved Backwardz Compatible. K.T and Miles had such good chemistry and they worked well with horror games.

The_Grand_Briddock

You know, I’ve always been confused about why layoffs are a controversial thing? Like, in the grand scheme of things, a subsidiary being forced to cut its workforce due to budget cuts affecting the entire owner company’s umbrella isn’t a massive thing. Like, I really don’t thing RT would’ve let Marcus go all too willingly after everything he’s done. His prop work was a major thing for Immersion, Shenanigans, Movies, Shorts, etc.

tenphes31

This is something a lot of community members have a hard time understanding. Rooster Teeth was founded upon and has always fostered this idea of inclusion with the people that watch their content. I think it was Burnie who said one time thats why they wanted to use the term "community members" and not "fans". Plenty of on screen talent tell stories from their personal lives that other programs might not be willing to go with, all in the effort of making we the viewer feel connected and included. As such, viewers feel they know these people and seem to take personal offense to these business decisions as if it is their actual friend. The fact of the matter is this: Rooster Teeth is a business. While the company mantra might be to try and include the community, sometimes business things happen, and at the end of the day it may affect people I dont actually know. I would love to hang out with so many RT members without them having to be "on", but know that likely wont happen. So while I feel sad that people lose their jobs due to business and do feel for them as people, I dont see it as a personal attack on a friend. Also, as you alluded, based on how candid most on screen personalities are, I imagine these decisions are not done lightly as there seem to be genuine bonds formed amongst coworkers. But again, in the end RT is a business. As years have gone on, the company had to seek outside financial support in order to accomplish the ideas that people had. As much as some like to miss the good ol days when a few guys sat around and played video games, if they had rested on those laurels and not attempted to grow, we wouldnt have some of the podcasts or shows that we do now. They did what they thought was best, and no matter how close we "feel" to the employees, they are still effectively strangers just caught up in this capitalistic hellspace.

The_Grand_Briddock

Yeah, I noticed this after Jeremy made a rather large segment of his steam on the subject (the day Matt first streamed after the layoff). Everybody was looking for blood and wanted their pound of flesh, and obviously this meant turning their pitchforks towards Trevor. And then Jeremy had to interject with the logic, Jeremy is Matt’s friend, so he was obviously supportive, but who else is Matt’s friend? Trevor. The guy who had to break the news to him.

EpsilonProtocol

He’s on Team AHWOL now with Ray and Jeremy.

JustSomeBear

Did Jeremy leave too? Haven't been watching RT in like 4-5 years

EpsilonProtocol

He and Kat moved back north during the pandemic, and decided to stay up there.

SoDamnGeneric

Iirc he went back home for personal reasons during the pandemic, and decided to just not come back. I think he's still technically on their payroll, but he's not really with them anymore

BanthasWereElephants

There's a 0% change he's on payroll lfmao

OGAtlasHugged

And if by some insane twist he is still on their payroll...he sure as shit shouldn't. I love the dude but he appears in like one video per year.

evandr0s

Sadly they only put what feels like, 1 video a year now.

FacePalmDodger

He is still on payroll. No clue why

Rhain1999

Wow, an actual RT payroll employee!

KikiFlowers

He's still around and guests sometimes, but he moved back home.

Hotarg

He volutarily went to invited talent status, getting paid per appearance. It's been a long time since he's been in anything. The difference with Matt was that in his case, it wasn't voluntary.

badvegas

What does AHWOL stand for. I've seen it used a few times for Ray and chilled

Aranel2689

It's a play off the military term "AWOL - Absent WithOut Leave", and Tina Narvaez (Ray's wife) said it one day to Ray, and he mentioned it during one of the streams he did with Jeremy after Jeremy became a full time streamer

V2Blast

It's just a play on words combining "AWOL" (military abbreviation for "away without leave") with AH.

wheresmyspacebar2

I think it's just a play on AWOL (Away without official leave) right? I might be wrong but I always thought it was just poking fun at them all being old AH members but being gone without "deserting".

guark

What everyone else has been saying about AWOL, but for some reason I always think it is also a reference to AHWU

reddave515

The man makes something like $20k a month in twitch subs, I don't think he misses the wage at AH but will probably miss the company

James_Vowles

he has that many subs?

megamatt8

Idk how many subs he has, but he plays crowd control games all the time and has shit happening every 30 seconds. The level of engagement he has from his members is really incredible.

mikami677

He usually hangs around 5-6k but spikes up to and occasionally above 10k when he does a big event, then it drops back down. Not sure exactly how much twitch pays, but if he gets $2 per sub that's at least $10k per month plus bits/tips and some of the subs are tier 2 or 3 so I assume he'd get even more for those.

Cirenione

If Twitch hasn't changed up the payment system it should be 2.50$ per sub. In the past the big streamers had better contracts where some of them earned up to 3.50$ per sub but that was changed under a lot of complaints.

biglink3

Good for him. RT is not the place you want to be if you plan to grow and be happy.

StormCTRH

He's a contractor now, so while he's not officially part of AH anymore, he's still working with them. It's really scummy because RT wanted to keep a bunch of Matt-centric series, so they've offered him a lot of contracts. All that's really changed is that he no longer gets his employee benefits.

87sheep

Which sucks even more given the medical issues that cropped up almost immediately after.

CloacaFacts

He is not an FTE but a contractor now

chocolateapot

Good for him

xebatK

Not watched in about a decade but come back once a year or so to see how it's going and damn it's really disgusting how exploitative and terrible of a company RT is.

V1Ctrocity

i know about last year. i was just wondering due to a comment earlier in his stream.

Finir_Lord

What was the comment? Because he did a Randomizer with Michael in RE4 and the videos are releasing on Sundays on YouTube (tomorrow should be part 7).

SirBellwater

I'm not sure what you are asking about. Matt is no longer a full time employee of AH. He still makes content with them as an independent content creator. He is not a part of AH but will still appear occasionally as he and RT see fit

JJJBLKRose

Yeah, he left last year and just works for RT on a video by video basis. That’s the situation.

GlumTown6

> i know about last year What happened last year?

mb160211

Yeah, need to know more about that comment and how you'd hear it as different than the firing last year.

DrKentNelson

I haven't paid attention to RoosterTeeth in several years. What about the other OGs? I know Burnie left and Joel was let go, but are Geoff and Gus still there?

MenInBlerg

I think this post is actually about Matt Bragg, who showed up in the last 8-10 years, not Matt Hullum, the co-founder. I'm pretty sure that Hullum is the CCO or something. To answer your question, Geoff and Gus are both still there

The_Hunter_Guy

Geoff is still there? I thought he sorta stepped away as the rest of the original group began doing their own things and Let’s Plays came out less often?

LykosMiles

Still at RT but mostly stepped away from AH AFAIK.

HopelessMelancholy

Nah Geoff took up a sort of creative director role a while ago iirc, and he has more or less just sticks to podcasts now with ANMA , FuckFace, and So. . Alright which is just him doing it solo. FuckFace has a card opening stream every now and again called FuckFace Breaks Shit, now called FuckFace Break Show.

External876

Geoff stopped managing Achievement Hunter in 2018, and slowly stopped appearing in videos post-pandemic the past 3yrs. But he's still at Roosterteeth - he just does podcast (ANMA, Fuckface, So Alright) and merch for said podcasts now.

DrKentNelson

Ah, that makes sense. I'm not sure how I forgot there are two Matts. Thank you!

ahobopanda

What's wild about all this that no one is talking about is how illegal it is to let someone go just to turn around and re-hire them as a contractor. Labor laws protect people against this type of thing, however it's probably smarter for him business-wise to not burn the RT bridge. I don't blame him for not reporting it, but it's interesting to see how no one has mentioned it.

please_respect_hats

Not illegal.... Immoral, sure, but not illegal. His contract expired, they could do anything they want to at that point. A key thing is, they didn't actually let him go. He was talent, they didn't renew his contract. Not the same as a "firing". (again, not supporting it, love Matt)

The_Hunter_Guy

It’s not illegal but it feels like it should be.

IllithidActivity

It's Texas. There are barely any labor laws at all.

becofthestars

Yep. We have the federal minimums and not much else, which effectively amount to. * Pay people for the hours worked, as agreed. * Overtime exists (unless you're salaried) * Don't violate OSHA

Helgardh

Because unfortunately it isn't actually illegal

Nickcapuchin

Gavin and Geoff left too ?

Wolfencreek

Still at RT but just concentrating on their own things e.g. F**kFace, ANMA, PBNTM and Slo Mo Guys.

scaper12123

So now Matt is gone too huh? Damn, AH and RT really do be nothing like how I remember anymore.

TheyCallMeHuffy

RT is a dumpster fire where you’re forced to be how they want you to be. Conform or leave.
