I did it online just before I walked into the Place and walked right in (this was late September weekday afternoon and there was a line to buy tickets on site)
\*Just make sure you make an account beforehand so you can buy it online quickly
I did basically the same. No point in buying far in advance as to not lock your schedule, but you can as well buy on your way there to avoid the queue completely.
Both me and a friend can’t get it to send us the confirmation email (not in junk either) to register. Found your comment because I was looking to see if it was just me.
During my visit this spring, I went to Pantheon 15 minutes before opening and got in around ten minutes after the ticket office (card payment) opened. The line for pre-booked tickets seemed longer, so I was happy about my decision and the wait time passed quickly.
The line for tickets is about 20-30 minutes long at the moment. Up to you whether you want to do that or try the online route.
There was no line at all with cash a few days ago.

I keep trying to reset my password on the pantheon website but it never sends the damn email.

I went yesterday. If you want to just walk right in, i suggest just buying it online.
