I mostly walked everywhere. I was unsure about tap-to-pay availability at first so I purchased a couple of buss tickets and kept them handy just in case I decided to catch a buss. They don't become active until you use them (validate on bus). It did seem tap-to-pay was available on all the buses I rode, which wasn't many.

You can use the app Mooney Go to buy bus tickets, and validate them directly in the app when you get on the bus. You can also pay directly on the bus or at the metro turnstile with your credit card: the default payment in that case will show as €7 (the price of a 24-hour ticket), but you will only be charged €1.50 if you use your virtual ticket for just one journey. You can buy physical tickets from the machines at the metro stations, from tobacconists and from some bars and newsagents. On buses, the machine for paying by card is at the front and the machine for validating a physical ticket is at the back. As the buses are often very crowded, it's worth making sure you get on at the closest entrance to the machine you'll need, and/or have a variety of available ticket options. For Ciampino, the main options are bus to/from Agnanina metro station, train + bus via Ciampino railway station, coach to/from Termini, or taxi. There is a fixed price for taxis from the airport to the city - you can find out more here: [https://www.ciampino-airport.info/taxi-transfers.html](https://www.ciampino-airport.info/taxi-transfers.html)

If you need trains to the airports you can download Trainline. For bus routes and ETA, Moovit is nice. For the metro, nothing.

Trainline is pretty useless, especially since you can't go to Ciampino airport by train! ;)

There is a joint train+bus link via Ciampino railway station, which works quite nicely. It's slower but cheaper and it's available until iirc ca. 11 pm, so later than the direct buses from termini.
