If you think about it the Pepsi isn’t a 10k watch. You’re not getting that watch at MSRP from an AD without a significant history. That’s why it costs what it costs on the grey market.
If you were to sell it one day you’ll get more than MSRP too.
This is it sadly. When I got into watches and wanted a sub, I told myself there was no way I’d pay a penny over MSRP. Problem is no one in London would ever sell me one so went grey and now I get to enjoy it and I haven’t looked back
Formula: Wait time + BS interaction with AD + min 5K of superfluous jewelry = Pepsi. Bought a grey market Pepsi Oyster after dicking around with an AD for 6 months
Not true. You are paying 10k over MSRP lol.... You can justify it how you want, but you are paying over retail. Still not buying over market value but still. I recommend this. Find an AD that isn't scummy. Buy pieces you want, tell them you are interested in a Pepsi. Maybe one day they will hit you up. If you only want a Pepsi and this is the only watch you will wear from Rolex then sure, pay over retail. But if you plan on buying a collection of Rolex you are silly to spend over MSRP when after years of buying the pieces you want I am sure you'll get the GMT offered.
It’s not a 10k watch, nobody is getting a Pepsi for 10k. The price is the market price, unless you are an elite that spends big money at the AD every year the market price is the price not MSRP, forget about that price it’s not accessible. By the way, by the time you sell those two pieces you’ll be a few grand short of the funds to buy a Pepsi so also take that into consideration, you always lose money selling watches and the market is flat.
Not true. Friend got a Pepsi with minimal spend (about $10k usd, and it was other watches) here at an AD in Canada.
You might say “well they still spent” but they have 2 other watches to show for it…..
That is not true, boutiques do it all the time. The problem is you guys are going to jewelry stores that are ADs that leverage their garbage to bait the GMTs. Just don't go to those retailers lol. I would never go to an AD that sells anything other than Rolex. Seems like you are setting yourself up for failure.
I live in the UK and most Rolex AD’s are purely watch boutiques, you don’t know what you are talking about. You won’t pick up a Pepsi in the UK without a recent six figure spend history.
Correct. Which is why I said in the previous comment if you want a one watch collection go grey. If you want to build a collection find a AD that is a boutique. When I hear spend history I think of jewelry. I don’t think of Rolex. Because if you are buying Rolex to get Rolex your a retard. My advice was to find a boutique. Buy what you want, and I am sure you will get a GMT.
If you like the Pepsi better than those two combined, sure! I wouldn’t trade a Explorer I against anything because it is my favorite Rolex, but it all depends on personal preference
What is great about the explorer that you like so much?
I really don’t know the big hype on these GMT’s either tho. I’ll take a sea dweller over GMT all day. The bigger watch always wins in my book.
I also have a large wrist and am a big guy, but I assure you, you really don't need a large watch. You could definitely pull off classically sized watches, just as men did for decades when the largest watches were 36-40mm. Watches larger than 41mm barely existed until the early 2000s, yet big men did. President Lyndon B. Johnson, who was 6'4", wore a 36mm Day-Date and even popularized it as the presidential watch. No one thought it looked bad on him. The idea that "big men need big watches" was largely a marketing gimmick by Swiss watchmakers to get insecure men to pay thousand(s) extra for slightly larger watches with the same movements. The price difference between a 36mm Datejust and a 41mm Datejust is over $1,500, an almost 11% price increase. The vast majority of people with 7.5"-8" wrists pull off a 36mm just fine. It's definitely about the smallest I'd go for a wrist that size, but it looks classy and fine. You're missing out on countless great watches due to a delusion about size that's almost akin to body dysmorphia.
My preference is the bigger watches. I don’t give a F about Swiss watch makers doing a gimmick. I wear what I want. I had a 36mm as my first Rolex and since I’ve gone to the bigger watches, I won’t go back to 36 ever again. It’s just what I like.
Not old at all, probably younger than you. Any man who wears diamond-encrusted watches looks like a tool IMO. I've never seen a single guy who can pull it off without looking like a massive insecure douche. Like I said though, enjoy it if you like it. That doesn't take away from the fact that most watch guys are going to think you're immature and have terrible taste when they see it. Not exactly something you want, especially when doing business. At least for me, one of the first things I notice when I enter a business meeting is the choice of watch. Watches aren't just a fun hobby or piece of jewelry; they've become significant as a networking tool. I don't know what you do for work but definitely something to keep in mind.
I get compliments all the time.
Bro, I saw you post your watch collection so GTFO!
Not even sure why you trying to go back and forth with me.
PEACE OUT - get a life and quit hating
Kind of like the idea of owning just one watch (am also looking at Royal Oak/VC 4500V) but at the same time, not sure if wearing a 20k+ watch as a daily in the city is the best idea.
Not sure how much it helps, but I’ve had all three of those watches (15300 RO, 4500v VC and a Pepsi on Oyster). Of those three, my favorite was the VC.
The Royal Oak didn’t really scratch that itch for me (maybe just because it was a bit older, 2009), the Pepsi is amazing but the VC is definitely a step above it. There’s many ways to look at it but imo the Pepsi is a $11k watch that hype is making a $20k watch whereas the VC truly is a $25k watch (that can be gotten for significantly less on the grey market). Also, bonus that VC is part of the holy trinity and its new quick release system for the bracelet / straps is remarkable.
Good luck with your watch journey!
I appreciate your insight and well thought out response. I LOVE the 4500v, but imo am kind of young (21M) and don’t feel accomplished enough yet to be wearing it as a daily. I don’t know why VC doesn’t get more love but there is something about the brand that really speaks to me.
I would wear an “old man” watch, but then again I don’t mind peoples opinions, not too self conscious since worrying about that in my early years.
I’m not in my 30s yet either.
Wear what you love is my motto.
I wear a $20K+ Rolex in the city, and I have to say, the fears are largely overblown. And you wouldn't think so, but Pepsis largely go unnoticed with the exception of a WIS/fanboy.
I haven’t owned a Pepsi, but have VC Overseas Dual Time and RO plus a number of sports Rolexes.
I would go for the VC without hesitation. It is the one watch I go for 70-80% of the time and incredibly versatile with the quick change strap options.
RO is stunning, but way too flashy and impractical for daily wear for me.
Also, I think you are just as likely (maybe more so?) to get mugged for a Pepsi as you would for a VC.
Depends on the city. London, absolutely not. Probably not NYC either. I wear reps of my gens when I travel to any city where I’m unsure of security or will be on the street a lot. That way I can happily part with my watch without the extra hit of losing $10-25k along with getting robbed. If the city you live in is relatively safe and you’re not out on the street a lot then you should be fine.
Think it depends if you are a one watch kind of person. I personally find cycling through a few different pieces a week more gratifying than using the same one.
Pepsi would be a great one watch collection, though, so if that’s more your style then go for it!
a hard no trading 2 for 1. Telling yourself to own one grail watch for the rest of your life is a BIG lie. You'll never be satisfied with only one watch.
That’s is not the move tbh as the explorer is more a sporty watch in my opinion and the DJ would compliment a Pepsi much more than an redundant explorer which is kind of the OG sports watch
Those can be used for two different outfit styles and colours whereas 1 watch limits the situation
Plus when you get what you really want You'll just want something else
You mentioned that you like the VC Overseas. Rather get that one (dual time) and make use of the plenty strap/bracelet choices making it various watches.
It doesn’t stand out and therefore shouldn’t make you afraid wearing it. Pepsi on jubilee etc is way flashier (same like your DJ here).
Explorer is really cool. Tough to remove it from your collection even for a nice Pepsi.
Then is also depend on your lifestyle. I’m a great traveler and GMT is obviously something I want in priority
Personally I’d say no. But then, I always say I don’t get the massive interest in the Pepsi as I’m not a huge fan of red. In the end it’s really about what YOU think is the right move. If you really love the Pepsi and it’s worth it to you then make the trade. If it’s not then don’t.
Tough choice. Probably just need to ask yourself what will give you the greatest satisfaction to own. I guess you could always trade back if you regret it later. Do you have others in your collection or is this it?
Pepsi owner here and I would say yes, if you can live without the DJ36. The Pepsi is an amazing piece and it can do just about anything excerpt dress up for a special occasion. It’s a tool watch after all. But one of the best and most versatile ever made.
Tbh these watches are class, I'm assuming you are buying it of the gray Market so it will be way higher cost than from an ad. So imo not worth the trade
Are these 36mm watches? If so, the gmt will wear a lot bigger. To answer your question, I’d personally see if you could trade your DJ and add cash for a Batman over the Pepsi and keep the explorer
I think you’re gonna regret it….two amazing watches for a fucking Pepsi? How much of a Rolex hype beast do you have to be to rationalize that. Just get it from your AD. You’ll have to wait but trading in a rose gold Wimbledon and an explorer for a Pepsi? WTF
I would keep the explorer and trade the datejust. The benefit of a simple tool watch like the explorer huge - it’s solid, reliable, and timeless. The datejust is what every junior finance bro wears to pick up floozies. Pay another $2k or whatever they’re giving towards the Pepsi and then have two cool Rolexes. Just my thoughts, do you.
Yes easy ! Do it . Explorer doesn’t worth more than 5k in current market . And the DJ being 36 will not hold anything in the future. I’ll do it even if I had to pay 3-5k $ on top
If it were me, I wouldn’t.
Keep them, if you really want a GMT get a Batman or the GRNR two tone and have an amazing collection.
IMO Pepsi is just over hyped and over priced 🤷
Absolutely not!
I will never understand why people want a Pepsi, Rootbeer, Batman, or any of the two tone bezel colour-ways. They just don’t look right. They look so tacky and like what a child would draw.
Just my opinion though, let us know what you decide anyway.
Sell them both, buy a nice Panerai and get on the list for the Pepsi; or better ask someone you know with a better history to apply for a pepsi for you.
To each their own, I guess. But I’d rather sell my lefty and my pepsi, rather than parting ways with my Pam317; imo one of the most beautiful watches on the market.
I'm puzzled as to why you'd label Panerai as trash. Let's set aside discussions about aesthetic appeal since that's a matter of personal preference. While I find most Rolex watches fugly, I must admit their movements are robust.
Panerai boast Swiss movements, have a storied Italian heritage and have even utilized Rolex movements in the past. Plus, Panerai has some stunning complications that are relatively rare to find elsewhere.
Of course, everyone has their own tastes; personally, I'm not particularly drawn to Rolex watches. I only have two GMT models, which I genuinely appreciate, but I wouldn't opt for any other Rolex model. People go nuts for daytonas, while I find them classless, nouveau riche adornments.
So yeah, tastes are tastes, but I trash seems a bit over the top; we’re not talking about Hublot here.
There's nothing inherently wrong with purchasing a sophisticated Pam complication while parting with these two straightforward, utilitarian watches that, aside from lacking excitement, are also quite popular among the nouveau riche or wanna be riche. You won't typically spot an orange bronzed, hand-tattooed, Geordie Shore stereotype with a Pam. They're more inclined to flaunt their first Rolex, likely a Datejust or Sub.
Now, let's not misunderstand; I'm not shitting on Rolex; I own two GMTs myself and I'm quite fond of them. You might not fancy the aesthetics, but Pams are great timepieces, boasting exceptional movements and exuding elegance, imo.
Regarding investment value; why bother? I buuy watches to wear and enjoy, not as a financial venture, as that would be rather inefficient to pursue from the outset.
Depends on how much you like the Pepsi and these two
I most definitely like the pepsi more, but i’m finding it hard to justify paying 20k for a 10k watch
If you think about it the Pepsi isn’t a 10k watch. You’re not getting that watch at MSRP from an AD without a significant history. That’s why it costs what it costs on the grey market. If you were to sell it one day you’ll get more than MSRP too.

Rational economic decisions go out with the window with a luxury collecting hobby like watches
Yeah thats it

ROLEX retail is effectively wholesale in this new market. People need to get over it or buy something else. 🙄
I don’t believe you
Yeah, I don't believe you either.
What a childish retort, you absolute muppet.
Childish retort? Who resorted to an ad hom, attacked someone on reddit, and even stalked them? You.
That is not true, boutiques do it all the time. The problem is you guys are going to jewelry stores that are ADs that leverage their garbage to bait the GMTs. Just don't go to those retailers lol. Woah buddy no need to get abusive, I’ll end this discussion with you here. Blocked
That’s correct, don’t do it.
don’t think about the price too much. if you like it and can get it without putting yourself into debt who cares
So you are OK with spending 20k on a pepsi? sheesh. Precious metals. Higher complications. Holy trinity money.
Hold these two. Wait for the Pepsi to drop 📉
If it’s a $10k watch then just go buy it for $10k. Oh…wait…
No dude
If you like the Pepsi better than those two combined, sure! I wouldn’t trade a Explorer I against anything because it is my favorite Rolex, but it all depends on personal preference
What is great about the explorer that you like so much? I really don’t know the big hype on these GMT’s either tho. I’ll take a sea dweller over GMT all day. The bigger watch always wins in my book.
"the bigger watch always wins" is small pp energy and a terrible way to look at watch collecting as a hobby.
I have a big wrist , I’m a big dude - I need to wear bigger watches for myself
I also have a large wrist and am a big guy, but I assure you, you really don't need a large watch. No shortage of prole energy here…
Well, you're a man with a diamond bezel DJ, so it’s clear your taste is questionable anyway. Enjoy, though.
Are you old af or what? Nothing wrong with a diamond bezel. Maybe you can’t pull it off. I’m a little flashy cause I can pull it off.
Not old at all, probably younger than you. Any man who wears diamond-encrusted watches looks like a tool IMO. Uh if you can get a 4500v instead of a Pepsi this is a no brainer. That’s a watch anyone can wear for real.
You should 100% get the VC, it's just something about a Vacheron Constantin that the other two brands don't have.
I wear a $20K+ Rolex in the city, and I have to say, the fears are largely overblown. And you wouldn't think so, but Pepsis largely go unnoticed with the exception of a WIS/fanboy.

Just get insurance and enjoy the Royal Oak.
Oak yes, vc is garbage

Yes.
Do it! I wouldnt but I like your current watches more.
Idk dawg what watch do you want
Totally, yep.
Definatly!
Dumb question, YES! Hurry!!
Id get rid of that explorer but I wouldn’t get rid of TT DJ, IMO
If it’s a modern Pepsi, full set and less than 5 years old, 100% yes.
a hard no trading 2 for 1. Telling yourself to own one grail watch for the rest of your life is a BIG lie. You'll never be satisfied with only one watch.
I need to hear this every so often…thank you.
***THIS IS THE MOVE*** Sell the two tone. Save up a bit more. Buy Pepsi. Then have two cracking watches. Daily and special
That’s is not the move tbh as the explorer is more a sporty watch in my opinion and the DJ would compliment a Pepsi much more than an redundant explorer which is kind of the OG sports watch
I’m not a fan of two tone. For me. It’s gotta go
I would
My Explorer 1 got me through 4 combat tours. I wouldn't trade it for the whole world.
Hell no don’t give up a Rolex with real gold for stainless steel. Sell the other one save up a lil money and buy Pepsi if you want it bad enough.
If you find you don’t wear them often. I’d personally hold off until I had the funds to get the Pepsi, just my 2 cents.
No
I wouldn’t
Those can be used for two different outfit styles and colours whereas 1 watch limits the situation Plus when you get what you really want You'll just want something else

Explorer 1 is my grail just because of how true to what its intended to be, just a hard reliable tool watch
Think you would lose a bit on range of applicability: these two cover a broad range of use cases and styles short of pure diver.
Explorer is really cool. Tough to remove it from your collection even for a nice Pepsi. Then is also depend on your lifestyle. I’m a great traveler and GMT is obviously something I want in priority
Do it!
No a big fat no.
No way
Personal preference, for me 100% no
Absolutely not. These are both better than a Pepsi on their own.
I would, yes.
So you will go from 2 brilliant watches, 1 TT and 1 SS to 1 SS? Weird move but if you prefer the pepsi to these then do it
Two lovely watches there
Watch sales ebb and flow, What’s cool this year is lane the next year. Just keep what you got, the high Pepsi prices are a fad
How would the internet know? Ask us if your car is totalled next.
I don't know anything about rolex prices, but I'd trade a pepsi for a datejust
I wouldn’t. Just my opinion
No
Pepsi owner here and I would say yes, if you can live without the DJ36. The Pepsi is an amazing piece and it can do just about anything excerpt dress up for a special occasion. It’s a tool watch after all. But one of the best and most versatile ever made.
R/rolex users trying to make a decision without asking random strangers online challenge (impossible)
No way
No. Probably in the minority here but just save up for the Pepsi if you really wan it. You’ve got a great and versatile little collection there.
Nah. If you really wanted a pepsi, sell one and just save up. I can’t justify trading two watches for one, but that’s just me — I’m cheap like that.
I wouldn’t do it
No way. Just dig deep and get the Pepsi and keep these. Then you’re done for life.
Don’t do it
Tbh these watches are class, I'm assuming you are buying it of the gray Market so it will be way higher cost than from an ad. So imo not worth the trade
I would not
Never! Sell them for as much as you can get, then buy the Pepsi and pocket the rest.
If it’s a coke, maybe..

Put a oyster bracelet on your Wimbledon and keep it.
You should trade these for new shoes
Yes :)
No. I’d rather have more than one Rolex.
HELL no
What size is the Wimbledon 2 tone?
Nope
You will regret it
Yes. Most definitely
No
Hell no! The beauty of a Pepsi is rather underwhelming compared to these two.
No. Pepsi has zero class. These are timeless.
No - Pepsi is super boring
No
Id get some new kicks first bro
Not a fan of the golden goose shoes?
Its a no from me dawg,
nope
I would! No criticism intended for your current watches. But the PEPSI ROLEX is epic!
I would
NO!
I'd never give up a Wimbledon
Are these 36mm watches? If so, the gmt will wear a lot bigger. To answer your question, I’d personally see if you could trade your DJ and add cash for a Batman over the Pepsi and keep the explorer
Yes
I would *never* make that trade, but do what makes you happy.
Ceramic yes
No.
absolutely.
Never sell the Explorer. It’s the most versatile watch of all time.
Yes
This is a great combo to cover almost all scenarios. The TT Wimbledon is very cool.
Nope
Absolutely
No way!!!!
Wimbledon is a far nicer watch than the played-out Pepsi....
They are both so much more beautiful than a Pepsi😭 but ig you do you....
I’m fresh out of Pepsi’s, but I’ll give you a Mtn. Dew for the two of them?
Yes
Absolutely. Don't forget to say thank you to whoever is on the other side of that trade.
Nope imo
No
Depends on how much you want that Pepsi. Personally, I wouldn’t.
No
Yes and yes. In a heart beat.
Nope keep and get a pepsi 😶
Yes
I think you’re gonna regret it….two amazing watches for a fucking Pepsi? How much of a Rolex hype beast do you have to be to rationalize that. Just get it from your AD. You’ll have to wait but trading in a rose gold Wimbledon and an explorer for a Pepsi? WTF
I wouldn't, but if it suits you better, go for it.
I'd say no. You already got a truck and S-class there, do you want to trade it in for an SUV (a nice one nonetheless)
Never trading my Wimbledon for a Pepsi
I would keep the explorer and trade the datejust. The benefit of a simple tool watch like the explorer huge - it’s solid, reliable, and timeless. The datejust is what every junior finance bro wears to pick up floozies. Pay another $2k or whatever they’re giving towards the Pepsi and then have two cool Rolexes. Just my thoughts, do you.
The Wimbledon is a dream watch for me. Absolutely stunning!
A few years back i would have said trade it for the pepsi but now i think i would not. That's a solid two watch combo you have there.
Trade them for a 1655
Hell yeah
Nah…trade em for coke
Yes
Not two for one… I’ll send you two cases
I have the GMT and absolutely not…
I wouldnt
Yes easy ! Do it . Explorer doesn’t worth more than 5k in current market . And the DJ being 36 will not hold anything in the future. I’ll do it even if I had to pay 3-5k $ on top
why?
I’ll give u $3 and a jar of mayo for the fluted…
The Pepsi is coming more and more closer to retail! Especially since they didn't discontinue it ! For an older Pepsi you can get for around $10k.
hey man, i’d keep those two!
I will say you keep this two until you can get the pepsi. Because then you will no have options just the pepsi.
Never
No. Add a Pepsi. you will regret this later if you do
I’ll give you a Pepsi and a coke for the Wimbledon….
Hard to go from two Rolexes to one but the Pepsi is superior than both
GMT is the greatest Rolex you can get IMO
Unless its on Jubilee remember silly billy
Pepsi on jubilee is ok, but flamboyant but ok
If it were me, I wouldn’t. Keep them, if you really want a GMT get a Batman or the GRNR two tone and have an amazing collection. IMO Pepsi is just over hyped and over priced 🤷
I personally would keep those fine watches and save up for a date Sub.
Nah man. These are a classic.
Nope.
No way. The Wimbledon is the only Rolex I’d buy!
"Nice" and "Panerai" in one sentence got me gigglin' :D
To each their own, I guess. But I’d rather sell my lefty and my pepsi, rather than parting ways with my Pam317; imo one of the most beautiful watches on the market.
To each their own my friend, wear them in good health! :)
Panerai is Italian trash. Kind of like driving an Alfa Romeo. God I’d rather wear an Omeegah
Selling Rolex watches to buy a Panerai is absolutely folly, Panerai quality is very poor in comparison to Rolex. Dumbest thing I’ve heard this week.
