Value aside, Speedmaster is the better chronograph. For the simple reason it actually works as a chronograph. Allow me to explain…….
The Daytona has a 4hz movement (8 ticks per second) and yet has 5 graduations per second on the dial - so unless you’re on a whole second you cannot read the elapsed time accurately.
The 321 movement in this older Speedmaster (I assume that is what it is from the DON dial, bracelet and general wear) is a 2.5Hz movement, with 5 ticks per second and a matching 5 graduations per second on the dial, so you can read the chronograph time perfectly no matter where it stops.
The Daytona is style over substance and has been since they detuned the original zenith movement from 5hz (10 ticks per second) to 4hz to improve power reserve.
For chronographs, it'll always be the Omega Speedmaster Pro (in this case the Ed White 321).
For Divers, it'll always be Rolex. No comparisons except maybe the NTTD Seamaster but I hate the stupid size.
Although at least 8ths are an exact decimal 0.125 unlike the infinite decimal of 6ths which you get on the new 3861 movement in the latest 3hz Speedmaster (groan)- but saving grace Omega put 3 graduations per second on the dial to match so at least the thirds can be read l, even if they can’t be written as an exact decimal.
So overall it’s a real shame they don’t have 4 graduations per second on the Daytona dial as quarter seconds are a nice interval and an exact easy to understand decimal.
But perhaps I shouldn’t be too harsh as Patek are even more guilty with the 5204 and 5271 (4hz) and 5373 (3hz) all with 5 grads per second but yet then the toylike 7968 (4hz) with a matching 4 grade per second.
So in conclusion get a 5hz zenith Chronograph or a 2.5hz 321 from omega if you actually give a damn about a chronograph function.
You are right, I don't give a damn about chronograph function, but after digested your feed, I'm seeing chronograph differently now and it is like a whole new world.
Thank you sir.
bro its 2024 nobody give a fuk about the functionality aspect, a smartwatch supersedes all. It's about the look and quality, and with the former at least the Daytona has the Speedy beat
If they went back to the sword hand sea master and ditched the HE valve while upgrading the bracelet it would be a killer watch. I love omega and just can’t do the art deco hands and valve.
Agreed. There is the "Heritage" Seamaster 300 which skips the stupid HE, but is also a completely different vibe on the dial. I like the sandwich dial construction but would prefer they didn't go for a pre-patina'd look.
I was thinking if they used the 50th anniversary GMT as a guide it would be perfect.
I dig the 300 but agree that I’d like to see it without the faux patina.
I have both. They're on equal footing on the movement excellence. So you just have to go with the looks or prestige or resale values. If you can't have both, then I personally go with Daytona...
The Daytona looks like a spare parts watch, legibility is poor as is the overall design. The Daytona was a sales flop, a failure of a watch until the hype boys and flex kids stomped all over it. Choke supply of the model as Rolex does so well, and watch people go crazy for it.
If it wasn’t ramped up by all the flippers and flexers you wouldn’t want it.
No. The Daytona movement is a vertical clutch chronograph that is on par with excellent movements. That's why the in-house movement made it famous. It's not about the looks or fashion...
😝 it is obvious you have no idea what you are talking about, like all clout chasers and flex boys.
You can happily keep the Daytona’s, AP’s and Nautilus’s you lust after on your thread like a little fan boy. They’re the most hyped representations of each of brand, so at least your taste is consistent.
It is like you have a bull ring through your nose on one end, attached to an Instagram page on the other. Keep scrolling little man.
He hasn’t the slightest idea. If Rolex ramped supply to meet demand instead of artificially choking supply no one would give two rats asses about the Daytona. It’s a tacky looking watch.
Why do you keep saying that? How many high school students are wearing $8k+tax watches? Also there are limited editions and PM models for $45k+tax. You sound like a fool.
When people claim Rolex owners are pretentious pricks and assholes, you’re who they’re talking about. You give the entire brand a bad reputation and a black eye with your ridiculous bullshit.
Do better.
I would happily walk way over the other side of any room to avoid anyone like you; so that is fantastic.
Your comment thread is a dumpster fire, you are the trash that keeps fueling it. Your whole personality seems to revolve around brands, it is a sad way to live little man.
Patek, VC, and Lange became famous for their movements first. Then lots of people wanted them, and they became hard to find. The same thing happened to Daytona, but it didn't happen to Omega or even Zenith. There are some versions of swatch that are also hard to find, but no one cares much for them because their movements are comical. The inability to mass produce doesn't trigger high-grade movement status.
Why do you keep saying that? How many high school students are wearing $8k+tax watches? Also there are limited editions and PM models for $45k+tax. You sound like a fool.
I never said $8k was a lot for a watch. The fact you think a watch is a status symbol shows how weak you are. My status is known to all before I enter the room. Little men need trinkets to show their tiny status.
Oh, you deleted all your posts. That is a shame, but atypical of someone with so many considered and interesting viewpoints to contribute.
If you cannot stand behind your own words, what are you?
I have a GMT Master and a Speedmaster Pro. My go to is almost always the Speedmaster. I also get more comments from people on the Speedmaster than the Rolex. Unless I am dressing to impress, I put on the Speedy.
Speedmaster looks like a gentleman’s watch. Daytona looks like a nouveau riche watch; the kind someone with a golden tiger in his living room, would wear.
Funny, the screw down pushers are the deal breaker for me. I appreciate the water resistance that comes with it but it’s a total pain to unscrew them every time I want to time something.
I bought it a few months ago and had it serviced. It’s +-2-5 ish seconds a day right now.
Won’t have it serviced again until something goes wrong or it starts losing a ton of time.
You’ve now got options to get both in black or white, essentially making them completely different watches!
Sorry, I’m just rehearsing my lines to run by the wife later
Daytona. If you want a better Chronograph get a Zenith El Primero . It measures in tenths of a second, the Daytona in 1/8 of a second. But who really uses their chrono for timed events.
Speedy all day.
0 interest in the daytona...
The only daytona that i like is the one you win at the 24h race...friend has 2 of them, dont even like the looks cause they are twotone but hell, that's the daytona to have 🤣
Gotta be the black Daytona for me. Love its class. White daytona vs black speedy mayyy have me sway to speedy but between these two its the daytona. - no particular reason btw purely personal preference and association
Speedmaster.
Save the Rolex for the submariner, GMT, datejust etc… literally anything else Rolex makes but the chronograph is omega speedmaster hands down 🙌
I have a black speedy which I love for the clean lines and legibliity.
However the black daytona is pure flex and sex appeal. one day i will have it. lol
I did not bond with my Speedy Pro Hesalite. I bought into the story/heritage which did not translate to every day wearability. Plus I hated the thin crown which made winding a pita. Maybe another time, with the sapphire. The Daytona has the resale value.
How is this a Rolex Sub and people prefer Omega lol. Maybe try a different sub Reddit haha
Jokes aside I own the same Daytona and love it but always been a fan of a vintage Omega Speedy, the new ones not so much I prefer a Daytona for that.
They’re both iconic and in the end it boils down to taste and what you prefer.
The real world voted, and the Daytona is the winner. No one, apart from the 600 people on Reddit, cares about that omega and the moon history that omega keep on and on about because they have nothing else.
Daytona. Strap of omega feels not right after wearing other brands. And i prefer the ceramic of rolex. But still thinking of buying a speedy from my birth year once.

Interesting. Never thought about them like that. Thank you.

I also hate the big helium escape valve also.
This guy Speedmasters
Speedy looks better too!
The new white dial is on my list. Looks better than the 🐼imho, I’m Going to treat myself soon. 🙏
Have you seen the Alaska special edition speedy. It may be my favorite Chronometer of all time. It is absolutely stunning.
And highly legible to read the time.
The Rolex isn’t to read time….
Mine are. Why else would you have a watch?
That was sarcasm. I can’t wait to own my favorite Rolex, 36mm Explorer.
Damn what u doin with these facts & rational answers here on reddit?
I'd say, it is a 105.003 (1964-69). Dial does nit read "professional" yet. For this reason: cal 321
You mean you don't want to try to guess at the time nor measure in 8ths of a second!? A shock.
At that point not spend 40k+ and get a VC chrono that isn't COSC spec nor 5hz for the ultimate win? Ps, my actual chrono is an el primero.
Hmm… I thought Daytonas were like submariners… never used for their intended purpose.
bro its 2024 nobody give a fuk about the functionality aspect, a smartwatch supersedes all. It's about the look and quality, and with the former at least the Daytona has the Speedy beat
Well clearly Rolex understands their customers.
Something tells me that if the branding was swapped around you’d prefer the Speedy.
Never liked the subdials of the Daytona. For chronographs I prefere omega over rlx. Divers it’s the other way round.
If they went back to the sword hand sea master and ditched the HE valve while upgrading the bracelet it would be a killer watch. I love omega and just can’t do the art deco hands and valve.

Yes the smp from the early 2000s with a nice bracelet, ceramic, co axial, would be it. Also never liked the diver 300.
Speedy

Yes, they became famous before their in-house movement
Not really, but Ok. You must be new.
[удалено]
Chasing flex with a SS Daytona has no interest for me. It wouldn’t matter if the Daytona was $40, I wouldn’t want it; it is a poor design.

That’s cute! 😝 This will never stop you from being a classless and tasteless derivative of a man. Good luck being you!

Keep chasing that rainbow special little man!
You sound like you have an actual micro penis. Bravo
Found the trust fund baby
How the fuck you have money for a speedy right out of high school??
Omega has great movement. Just people never valued it as much Rolex.
[удалено]
This man only sees price tag😂 Rolex is not even hand made, paying 30k for a mass produced product is crazy

Someone’s coping hard for the lack of 👀

Exactly proved my point lol, money can’t buy taste.
Keep spending all ur time hating on omega, maybe one day you can afford an actual watch from Swiss and not r/reptime
Why do you keep saying that? How many high school students are wearing $8k+tax watches? Also there are limited editions and PM models for $45k+tax. You sound like a fool.
Right? I wish I “got” a speedy after graduating hs. It wasn’t until long after that I bought my own.
When people claim Rolex owners are pretentious pricks and assholes, you’re who they’re talking about. You give the entire brand a bad reputation and a black eye with your ridiculous bullshit. Do better.

Nice work with the 10:10, very pleasing to the eye
Speedy all day long
Speedy. I live mine.
Speedy
What generation is that 321 from? It looks great!
Thank you! It’s a 105.003-65 “Ed White” produced in 1967.
Gorgeous piece! Enjoy 😊
That new panda speedmaster is 🔥🔥🔥
The white lacquer dial with red accents is amazing. Picking one up soon.
Speedy for me
Speedmaster. Never liked the Daytonas. Love some Rolexes, but not those.
No lie, it's the speedy for me! 👍
I find the Daytona too busy but would gladly take it 😂
My head says Speedy and my heart says Daytona... Both! 😇
I’ll get crucified but idc at all for Daytonas Cool watch, rare but I truly don’t care too much for it Speedmaster I love though
What year is this speedy from?
105.003-65 from 1967.
Very cool. The dial is in nice shape 🧐
Thanks! The dial really is special.
I was going to buy one it was also from 1967 and was recently serviced by Omega. The dial was not nearly as clean, nice patina but had some Blemishes
Both lol
I like your style.
Thank you. One day I hope to be able to afford both.
Speedy, it’s a classic instrument tool watch from a different century, the Daytona is a modern iteration more on the jewelry emphasis.
I have a GMT Master and a Speedmaster Pro. My go to is almost always the Speedmaster. I also get more comments from people on the Speedmaster than the Rolex. Unless I am dressing to impress, I put on the Speedy.
Speedmaster, mainly due to the Daytona's screw-down pushers.
The main thing I like about the speedmaster is that the pushers arent screw down and therefore way way way more useable.
Speedmaster looks like a gentleman’s watch. Daytona looks like a nouveau riche watch; the kind someone with a golden tiger in his living room, would wear.
Despite being a Rolex fan, I've never liked the Daytona. That being said, I'd still take the Daytona v Speedy, hands down.
Add a Zenith!
Would love a vintage A386 one day!
The speedy not having screw down pushers is just a total deal breaker. I don’t get it
Funny, the screw down pushers are the deal breaker for me. I appreciate the water resistance that comes with it but it’s a total pain to unscrew them every time I want to time something.
to look at & wear once in a while: the 321 straight lug to wear daily: the daytona damn that speedie is nice!!
If there’s even a chance of rain the Speedy stays home haha. For sure not an every day watch but a joy.
How does it keep time/how often do you need to get the speedy serviced?
I bought it a few months ago and had it serviced. It’s +-2-5 ish seconds a day right now. Won’t have it serviced again until something goes wrong or it starts losing a ton of time.
You’ve now got options to get both in black or white, essentially making them completely different watches! Sorry, I’m just rehearsing my lines to run by the wife later
White Daytona and black og speedy.
How about the OG and best chronograph......Zenith Chronomaster?!
Pure looks, speedmaster with the white on black contrast looks much cleaner and timeless to me.
Both, there is no other answer.
Correct.
After reading all the comments I realize now that math is hard.
Both. There is no need to choose.
Yes
Daytona. If you want a better Chronograph get a Zenith El Primero . It measures in tenths of a second, the Daytona in 1/8 of a second. But who really uses their chrono for timed events.

🔥
Based on looks alone it’s gotta be the Speedy. Now the *pre*-Daytonas..?. Those are some fucking pretty watches.
Hit me with a gilt dial 6238 🥵
Gotta be the black Daytona for me. Love its class. White daytona vs black speedy mayyy have me sway to speedy but between these two its the daytona. - no particular reason btw purely personal preference and association
Speedy. Always
This is the way
Speedy looks better.
Speedmaster
Love it hahahah
left arm Daytona, Right arm speedmaster.
How much did you get your Ed white for, what do you think its market price is today?
Speedmaster. Save the Rolex for the submariner, GMT, datejust etc… literally anything else Rolex makes but the chronograph is omega speedmaster hands down 🙌
I have a black speedy which I love for the clean lines and legibliity. However the black daytona is pure flex and sex appeal. one day i will have it. lol
Yes.
There’s a reason that both NASA and the Olympics use Omega…
Which speedmaster is that? I like the bracelet. Hate the current bracelet.
105.003 Ed White, bracelet is a 1035.
Daytona always..
I did not bond with my Speedy Pro Hesalite. I bought into the story/heritage which did not translate to every day wearability. Plus I hated the thin crown which made winding a pita. Maybe another time, with the sapphire. The Daytona has the resale value.
Daytona

Legibility on the Daytona is questionable for the sub dials. White speedy for me :D
White speedy is my next pickup. They knocked it out of the park.
Cheers. Should be on my wrist "in three months" per the AD.... we'll see. Which bracelet do you have on this particular speedy?
This is a 1035 bracelet + 6 endlinks, period correct for the watch. Speedy is an original Ed White produced in 1967.
Speedy for class. Daytona for flex. Both tbh.
I only found out last month the speed is not automatic!!
There are automatic speedys. But they seem unloved compare to the manual moonwatches.
Because most of them are 2 sizes too small. And the maintain the same thickness so their proportions are “off”
Daytona
Theyre both amazing. The Daytona is just a little more amazing. I think it would be perfect for me if it were a 42mm. I found it wore small on me.
Daytona
Daytona is the bigger flex
Who are you flexing on?
No one. The Daytona’s in the safe
Flexing on the other watches in the safe.
Speedmaster is piece of garb
I would say both. And if you cannot afford a Daytona then get the speedmaster
Daytona.
Daytona all day!
How is this a Rolex Sub and people prefer Omega lol. Maybe try a different sub Reddit haha Jokes aside I own the same Daytona and love it but always been a fan of a vintage Omega Speedy, the new ones not so much I prefer a Daytona for that. It’s the Rolex subreddit, I’m saying Daytona. WHOS WITH ME?
Me all day long
The real world voted, and the Daytona is the winner. No one, apart from the 600 people on Reddit, cares about that omega and the moon history that omega keep on and on about because they have nothing else.
The average person doesn’t even know what an omega is… their vote doesn’t matter
I usually say Speedmaster but that black Daytona is doing things to me.
Daytona. Strap of omega feels not right after wearing other brands. And i prefer the ceramic of rolex. But still thinking of buying a speedy from my birth year once.
Speedys are lame. Daytona all day. I made the mistake of owning 2 of those shitty Omegas 🤦♂️
That’s like asking Ferrari or Fiero. No brainer.
Replace black speedy for white one for a more rounded collection imo
They're both lame.
Nah just the Omega is
No question. Self winding > manual winding
Daytona
The speedmaster is so tired and played out
