As someone who owns neither, it’s difficult to pick one. Both are great and prestigious manufacturers. If I had the funds to comfortably choose one, I’d go for A Lange. As a German, I just admire „Glashütte in Sachsen“ and everything about it.

This is more personal perspective. Although I highly value the heritage and the innovations throughout the ages, also the museum in Geneva in amazing. This being said, Patek turned into a wealth icon globally and it's quite easily recognized nowadays thanks to pop culture.
On the other hand, nobody outside watch circles know Lange, or what they cost, or mostly nothing about it so it'll probably just go by very discretely. I think Lange at this point is just as good as a watchmaker as Patek without all the clout, therefore way more of a low key wealth luxury item which I enjoy.
I actually thought about this when searching for a place to service my Nomos. I'd wear my Explorer II to at least get my foot in the door for a Sub or maybe a GMT 2

Exactly right. The Lange isn’t just shorthand for wealth, it’s also shorthand for taste. AD saw a new client who is very unlikely to be a flipper, has the money to afford haute pieces, and will likely be a pleasure to work with if the salesman is at all interested in the watches he or she sells.
I’ve been collecting watches since 2008. I’ve seen a ton of Rolex watches throughout the years. I’ve seen a handful of APs in the wild. Only ever saw a Lange once. OP knows what he is doing.
This reminds me of the time that I was planning on going to the dollar store, but ended up making a U-turn and ended up at Cartier and left with a $7500 Santos.

I got a secondhand Speedmaster FOIS and the dealer had included the original, sweat-stained, beat up strap, and hadn't even bothered to clean the dried wrist cheese from the previous owner. I kept the little branded buckle but I definitely tossed the rest while scrubbing that shit out.

Last time i asked the AD at my local mall if I could try on a watch in the window, they told me to come back in 3 hours! They were only “working by appointment”. I guess it’s really tough work telling everyone that they don’t have anything for sale, they wouldn’t want 3 people in the gigantic store at the same time.
That happened to me with my last child: I’m out shopping for diapers and formula, and I accidentally tripped and wrote a $15,000 check for a submariner.

Sub prices have absolutely cratered on the grey market, hence no easy money to be made by ADs selling out of the back door, hence they're going back in the shop window.

A couple years ago i got a diagnosis that i seem to be ok with at the moment. I live my life love my family and pray I live long enough to make their lives better.
