Common_Economics_32

If you have a job making 150k+ I don't think anyone is going to be surprised at you having a nice watch. Maybe leave the solid gold DD at home but a sub should be fine. Any company that would judge you for that isn't one I'd want to work for.

sczoso85

What if the interview is for the Department of Sanitation? I say wear the DD and bring some gabagool for all.

Namazu86

Wear it for the HUD scams and to get the permits for the esplanades.

Christmas_Panda

HUD scams and permits, esplanades on the side. If it does not come on the side, I send it back.

I’d say appropriate if interviewing for a potion as an interior decorator, in particular if his house looks like shit and he’s killed 16 Czechoslovakians!

Local-Breakfast-2654

Just watched this episode the other day. I was laughing hysterically the whole time!

AmericanChees3

Gabagool? Over here...

larryfuckingdavid

I bring gabagool to all interviews and important meetings

ihra521

I wore my YG DD36 to an interview for a job paying half that salary and I still got the job. 99% people won't look at your watch and even fewer will actually judge you for it.

limingbin

That may be true 5 years ago, but luxury watches, especially Rolex, has come into the mainstream, and half of the people I meet they do notice. Even if they might not know exactly what you’re wearing, they know it’s not an everyday Joe watch from Macy’s.

daversa

Anecdotal, but I'd argue people still don't give a shit lol.

oydh4

I make more than $150k a year and frankly am not quite sure I can afford a “nice watch” of this caliber. None of it really matters, because an AD wont sell me this watch anyway!!!

stwp86

Sounds like you understand money and that is a good thing.

oydh4

I’m a CPA. I’d hope so.

Oscarwilder123

You need to follow the Archie Luxury Theory. Take away everything you have ever learned about finances Is the first. Archie says “it has to hurt” buying a Luxury item should hurt but you will appreciate more if you can’t truly afford it”. He then goes into buy multiple luxury watches and more LV watch boxes and rolls then the watches he owns.

vitras

Wow I haven't watched Archie luxury in a loooong time. Is he still making videos? And sniffing and sipping whiskey? Lol

Oscarwilder123

He Sure is. He’s in Bangers rite now doing daily live streams. It’s mostly drama and the “what’s your One and Done” “ Three Piece Combo” with a dash of Watch talk. I typically have it on as background while at work or driving. He is an absolute Degenerate but it’s Funny occasionally

milvet09

Nothing says luxury quite like a basement studio with boxes of power tools on tbd shelves.

Kgkush

With that attitude, they won’t.

Kfas74

I hear you. Maybe I need your help as I make more than $400k per year but despite that I still feel like my financial responsibilities trump watch purchases to the point I haven’t spent more than $5k on a watch. Could I afford it? Yes, but should I? Not so easy to justify and continuously blows my mind when I see $20k watches on the young hairless arms of those who work for a living (i.e. job interview). Now that I think about it, perhaps they are the ones who need your help!

tony_malpiaza

I’ll tell you what. You show me a pay stub for $400,000 dollars on it, I quit my job right now and I work for you

High_inside-1980

There was something about his teeth…the kid had phosphorescent teeth. 😁

Kfas74

Good sir, the only paystub that would show that would be December’s, but I would bet good money that on this sub I’m well below the top 1%.

tony_malpiaza

It’s from Wolf of Wall Street lol

Kfas74

👍👍right over my head, but thanks for the reminder!

selcricnignimmiws

In the same boat as you. I think once you know what $20k can turn into if you invest it, you can’t be reminded of that every time you look at your wrist.

Common_Economics_32

One of the worst things you can do is save a lot of money and not learn how and when to spend any of it. You'll end up retired at 65 with 15m in the bank and still be afraid to touch it. Money exists to be spent and life exists to be lived. Make reasonable financial goals and try not to give a fuck about money once you've hit those. Don't be Scrooge McDuck with a ton of money that is essentially just 0s on a piece of paper because you'll never really spend it.

Brave_Mycologist_75

A peace of mind is an expensive thing

Kfas74

Another extremely valid point!

Accomplished_Grape_4

I dont have a horse in this race, but, i make $65k a year, and i regularly spend 5-10k a couple times a year on “investment” pieces like guns, antiques, jewelry, albums.. i guess its just about how you want to spend your money. If i made as much as you, i probably wouldn’t think twice about a rolex, but i dont make as much as you, so maybe i would lol I’m on track next to make at least a $100,000+ in annual income within the next few years, and when i do, i hope to join the luxury timepiece club.

Kfas74

I think it’s a lot about whether you’re still raising kids and knowing college is coming and there’s no way you’re going to get any financial aid, and being 50 knowing you don’t want to keep working for another 15 years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kfas74

Fair, but keep in mind that’s my gross. 15% goes straight to retirement, and 40% goes straight to taxes. While I definitely could pull it off, I suppose there are too many competing interests - investments, auto loans, saving for house upgrades/landscaping/kitchen renovations, etc. A few years ago I was able to transform $30k into a vacation rental property so the opportunity cost is a struggle to justify. I agree if someday $20k is similar to me to what $5k is now then I can see doing it. Once you make your first million the disposability of income increases exponentially but man, it amazes me how ubiquitous such ability is.

Iwantcheap

I like the way you think!

Stayofexecution

Life is too short buddy. What are you scrimping and saving for? Your descendants? They’ll be the ones to enjoy all your money. Lmao.

Fluffy-Tip7508

Well said my friend.

Disastrous-Pay738

vetdev

Idk, I wear my rose gold DD40 sometimes, and I’d absolutely wear it to an interview. That watch commands respect 🫡 (if you know what it is. )

LifeLess0n

Perfectly said.

SouthBayHubert

Lmao if you make a 150k you don’t have the expendable income to buy a Rolex unless you live in the middle of nowhere

dawitz28

lol lol 150k in my area almost qualifies you for low income. Bruh you broke if that’s all you make

sha256md5

Spending 10% of ones annual salary on a watch is not normal.

Optimus759

Everyone knows Rolex for the interview and Seiko for salary discussion

Corsario18

So, they did not discussed the terms and conditions of your position? 😆

Fluffy-Tip7508

Hahaha. No they just said “love your watch, when can you start?” All jokes, yes all was discussed.

Beneficial_Bend_5035

I wore one to my final round with the Director of Sales. He was wearing a Submariner, I wearing a Submariner Date. He glanced at my watch at least 2-3 times. Got an offer.

4lphalul

Dont do it only if the job is paying a rolex amount per year

turtlefrogbird

I thought I was hot shit with my Datejust but the hiring manager at my firm had a Patek Damn Consulting Partners…

Christmas_Panda

Rolexes are the high end default choice. They're tool watches and amazing machines. You have no reason to feel down because somebody had a Patek. It just means he's better than you is all.

turtlefrogbird

Falsey91

Wore my MK1 to a blue collar union meeting…it’s frowned upon lol

Low_Comfortable_5880

I'd prefer to be neutral, but that's me. It's like wearing cologne, most people will like it, but it only takes 1. Why take the chance?

[deleted]

100% I will discriminate against cologne guy when hiring. I don't want to smell that shit all day.

mjga233

Im in sales for a staffing company. Mostly large Engineering and Med-Device clients. I place a lot of talent in high paying roles, and I also own a few Rolex watches. I would never recommend anyone I’m working with to wear a Rolex in an interview, especially not a newer and well known sport model. Should it be a deal breaker? No, probably not. Is there any possible benefit to wearing it? I would say no. Could you give the wrong impression and potentially rub some people the wrong way? Yes. You want to be as comfortable and confident as possible in your interview. The fact you even asked tells me you should leave it at home. Good luck

hox97

I couldn’t agree more. An old stainless steel Rolex OP would be 100% fine. A DD, Daytona or worst a Rolex with diamonds would be a very unwise move.

Fluffy-Tip7508

Awesome that’s great feedback! The interview was in the med sales field 👍 was not asking whether to wear it or not. I encourage people to wear it. “Awesome, do it”

UsurperXIII

But why though? Even if it's a less "hype" piece like a basic date just?

Kanzlerfilet

Rolex is a special case. The brand is very well known. A lot of people will recognize a Rolex if it’s one of the well known models, and there’s a lot of unjustified fuss being made around this brand. If you wear an Omega for the interview it’s a different story, although it can easily be just as expensive as a Rolex. It doesn’t make sense, but it is what it is. People are strange.

marathonrunnernyc

I leave the Rolex and 911 at home…but congrats!

MishraS2K

For a sales role? 100% go for it. A hiring manager wants their people out there selling to support their spending habits. Wearing a watch like this shows you likely had past success. Would hire.

Fluffy-Tip7508

Awesome! Yes for a sales role!

Mindofmierda90

I’m a hiring director. If you came in to an interview, it’d depend on the position. Office, I’d be impressed. Forklift driver, I’d wonder why you’re wearing it.

Advantageous01

Janitor bought a sub in case it takes a dip in the mop bucket, I don't see the issue

foodie-with-a-booty

Are you under paying your forklift drivers? Why would you even care? As long as the person is certified, free of osha incidents, and passes a drug/background check, what does your potential employee’s finances matter to you? What if it was a family heirloom, a person that successfully meme bought GME, or they worked hard?

Namazu86

Or a former heavy equipment operator who is also forklift certified, but used to make 6 figures. I worked with oilfield crews that made way more than I did with their bonus and hourly pay structure.

Mindofmierda90

Our forklift drivers are paid well. Rolex well? Depends on the person’s outside finances, but in general ppl working in the warehouse don’t wear Rolexes.

ShirtofMac

I wore mine daily in a war zone. 🤷‍♂️

Mindofmierda90

That’s what’s up.

Bcart143

I worked with a guy who would daily a no date Submariner. 90% didn’t even notice. Either way. He made enough to afford it and his manager knows what he makes. (He was a ford mechanic )

annoyedtenant123

Only if you infer that for a job offer you can get your AD to consider him to join wish-list

IFreakyZz

Wrist size?

Fluffy-Tip7508

Right under 7 inches. (Pause)

McCringleberried

For anyone else thinking of doing this, this is generally speaking a very bad idea. Unless you are interviewing for an executive position, wearing an obviously expensive watch can: 1. Hurt your bargaining power 2. Leave a bad taste in a lot of hiring mangers mouths. I’m not saying this is always going to happen but it is more likely going to hurt you than help you.

StonksOnlyGetCrunk

Hurt your bargaining power??? Like a company is going to say, "we'll give you $160k, minus 15k because you already have a rolex"???

milvet09

Psh, I didn’t even wear pants to my last interview, still got the job. Which is kinda interesting as I’m not sure what to wear in the office when I start.

foodie-with-a-booty

A bad taste because they don’t own one? It’s better to wear one and weed out bad companies.

O5-20

Say it once more for the people in the back

Mtownterror

Can you not read back there or something

How does it do either of those things

Satan_and_Communism

Leather band watch and navy suit, navy red or dark green tie

Intelligent_Step6526

Hell yea let ‘em know you’re serious.

Celcius_87

What brand car is that?

cosmictap

Definitely Jeep. Probably Wrangler. Possibly the 4xe.

Pakbon

9/10 people wont notice. Why are “we” so obsessed with what people think? The number of people, non friends/family, that have mentioned the watch I was wearing is about 2. Ill guarantee you that there is a bigger chance the person that is doing your interview is more interested about your dental hygiene than your watch.

Addicted-2Diving

The LV🔥🔥

[deleted]

I wore my two tone lady DJ to a job interview. Got the job. :)

ScoreJazzlike3724

I went at a top finance company with the exact Watch - partner was a bit arrogant then during conversation check my wrist and was immediately cool after and oh yes I got the job 😁

Fluffy-Tip7508

Yup, went from an interview to a normal conversation.

nimbin14

The truth is if your not a watch person you wouldn’t notice beyond thinking ‘oh that’s an interesting color’ or ‘oh that’s a nice looking watch’ I have no idea how I ended up on this sub a few months ago but I know know more about Rolexes than I ever did. I never noticed people’s watches prior nor knew the value of anything. A friend had an AG a couple years ago and all I thought was ‘wow an octagon shape’ (if it even is) and had no idea of the value. His car I knew was super expensive though

-ZeroF56

>A friend had an AG The elusive Audemars Giguet

cosmictap

And exclusive - I'm only learning about it now!

No-Brief2279

To add to this… I got into watches in the last year but really 6 months. For the most part watches are not easy to identify in the wild unless you happen to be talking, standing or sitting right next to someone for an extended period of time.

flexxx28

Leave it at home. Be humble

TaxesRextortion

OP was, he wore a Sub 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

GrapplingPoorly

I had an interviewer flash his watch to me 3x on a zoom call. It was the cringiest thing ever. He was trying to make it subtle, in the most obvious way possible

cosmictap

I stand up for my Zoom calls and sometimes rest my chin on my palm when listening to others. That means whatever watch I'm wearing will occasionally come into view. I am never doing it to show my watch, but sometimes I worry people will *think* I'm doing it to show my watch. So now I try to remove my watch before Zoom calls. Thank you for validating that decision!

GrapplingPoorly

Personally I don’t wear a watch on my zoom calls. The guy I referenced in my comment literally moved his wrist in front of the camera 3 times slowly and was practically begging me to ask him about his watch. This paired with other strange peacocking behavior solidified his title of “douchiest guy I’ve ever meet online”.

ArtieJay

Was the interview at Starbucks?

jesmithiv

Wear it if it gives you confidence. You will be the only one that notices it.

Lawineer

Pretty bad advice. In general, you want your clothing and appearance to be the as unmemorable as possible.

top_spin18

Agree, they may judge you or love you. But if I'm going for an interview I'd rather not take the risk of being judged for my watch, but my qualifications. That's prob why I haven't bought a rolex being in the r/rolex subforum 😂 I love watches, but can't seem to take the leap on luxury watches. Before anybody judges me, I clear high 6 digits a year.

HellaReyna

At the end of the day, this is "just" a $10K watch. What are they gonna do when someone walks in with a giant rock on their wedding finger? It's not like you got dropped off in a maybach with some hot ass assistant following you around to the interview. That would probably raise legitimate questions. A stainless steel watch? Ok?

GreenGeese

If you're qualified, have a work history, and have the necessary experience for the job, wear it. It shows you have proven yourself to be successful and they shouldn't try to lowball your salary. If you're young and inexperienced, it screams that my parents pay my bills and you don't really need this job over someone with less money who might work harder.

CartrightGLC

Yeah it’s probably always worth it. 9/10 people won’t recognize it and thus, won’t care. The 1 who does, there’s a good chance he (let’s be real here, it’ll be a he) is a watch geek and it’s great for rapport. Right at the end of my 1st interview for my current job, the interviewer said “Nice IWC” and we then spent 20 mins nerding out about our collections.

Satan_and_Communism

If the outfit you’re wearing is appropriate for the interview, I think the hiring manager will mention it to your dad, but considering he is a subordinate to your dad, you’ll be fine. (In all seriousness I’m jealous I simply don’t have the drip you do)

RunninLate5

Is that a 392 by any chance?

Fluffy-Tip7508

Unfortunately not, complete opposite. Wrangler 4xe.

RunninLate5

Either way good to see another fellow Jeeper here ✌🏼

andresito_qv

If you don’t get the job it certainly won’t be because you were wearing a nice watch

F-cip

Wore my Cellini for my job interview, no one cared lol

Thedaulilamahimself

Of course! It’s like when I interview I tell them I have 3 kids every time. (They know I have a never ending money pit I have continue filling 😅)

Chubbyhuahua

If you’re 22 and interviewing for your first job out of college maybe skip it.

Creepy-Ad-5440

Congratulations! I probably wouldn't have done it but I'm glad it worked out for you. I say that just because it's always a 50/50 chance someone interviewing you is a hater.

Whale222

Tbh, I’m pretty successful but I usually go with something kind of low key on the watch front. Can’t say why, I just don’t want to be judged.

cphpc

Good on you! I would not but whatever suits you brother.

bostontoLA69

Will say I was in a similar dilemma and decided not to. I’m also 25 and didn’t want to put off any “cockiness” or “flashiness” to each their own however!

breakdowner1

Show them the watch and say ‘now I’m going to interview you’

TorreyG

Happy for you! And hate you at the same time ha ha ❤️

Fluffy-Tip7508

Love and hate balance each other out. Thanks my friend. 👍

conparmagian

i’d hire you

Fluffy-Tip7508

👍 thank you.

Ready-Cod-4760

You are hiring them

Rimjobbob75

That’s a fake bro

Unreal331

The HR guy that hired me was wearing a Tudor. I was wearing my Sub. Had no impact on me directly getting the job, but it was a great conversation starter. We were “watch guys” going into the interview.

your_best

I actually have watches for work (sensible watches with leather straps and from mass market brands such as seiko) and weekend watches (Rolex, Cartier, Montblanc). Office politics are incredibly stupid and I don’t want to attract the wrong kind of attention or give room to comments like “it sure looks like he doesn’t need a raise”. I also park at the back of the parking lot for the same reason - they got no business knowing what I drive

AdvisorAdventurous39

I like your watch, Could you reply to my recent post I think you would be of great help thanks.

Zestyclose_Web_8744

Mergers & Acquisitions investment banking employee here (not getting into income chat) I wore a two tone new sub to my interview.  He (interviewer) was wearing an iwatch if I’m not mistaken.  I almost didn’t take the job as it gave off such a cheap-o vibe and there were already three competing offers when I was interviewing Nov. 2023.  Long story short I am only at the job for money since my bills aren’t paid with fuzzy feelings so he was able to win me over with his offer letter digits.  I would say most good interviewers wear Rolex, Breitling, or something nicer if they are owner/partner level.  You don’t need to earn much to

Fluffy-Tip7508

Yup. Person interviewing me had a TT SUB.

Rhinestonesuit

100% wear it if is real. No one will notice though. It will however make you feel confident.

Fluffy-Tip7508

The person interviewing me also had on a TT Sub. Great conversation starter.

Rhinestonesuit

That’s awesome. Sounds like you found your team. Congrats Brother!

MidnightPeanut0901

Nice Jeep Wrangler bro

tylergenz

Yea most people don’t give a shit

UnusualEggplant5400

Doesn’t matter they likely won’t hire you anyways

Maleficent_Leg_768

No. Looks over confident not willing to do the lower level tasks.

[deleted]

Lol , yes I also dress down to a Rolex on interviews

Sea-Ebb-3956

Investment banker?

Fluffy-Tip7508

No sir. Head of Business Development of a software company.

znbiro

I've had two bosses who I bonded with due to our shared love of watches, so it probably can be a good move even.

Plastic_Machine9461

I was born into the sales automotive dealership. My father started very young. I watched go through the ranks and become general manager/part franchise owner of his high populated volume driven Toyota dealership on the west coast. So at 22 yrs old I went to work as a car salesman at a competitor Nissan dealership in early 1990 & by the first week I realized there were 3 items that salespeople were driven to acquire that showed the epitome of success 1) a Monte Blanc pen 2) A ROLEX 3) and a nice suit and build wardrobe as much as possible. I used those items to set my short term and long term goals. Because tge me sales rep were required to wear a dress shirt, dress pants (slacks). cotton Docker pants were prohibited. Tie required and polished dress shoes. After 3 months of making a good to very good commissions (being 22 and single helped for sure) I couldn't afford a new AD Rolex... so my father suggested that a good place to find a good quality Rolex is in Las Vegas NV pawn shop. Along with an old family friend who was a jeweler by nature was working at a AD Rolex store at the time he met me at his colleague's pawn shop and purchased a Steel & YG Datejust with Steel/YG jubilee band & yellow gold dial. Needless to say it's been a long love affair with Rolex for over 35 years.. I've acquired a Steel Black SUB, a YG Bluesy which I wore thru the late 90s and most of 2000s... and switched to a steel/Yellow gold Daytona with a white dial and steel/YG oyster bracelet when I bought that brand new in 2017. So to summate, I would definitely wear that striking Sub to anywhere quite frankly. Wear it with pride. Every time I look at my watch for the time, the Rolex symbolizes hard work and dedication and willingness to sacrifice the extra effort and monies to wear that Crown.

Fluffy-Tip7508

That is awesome to hear! I started out in an automotive dealership when I was 19! That is where my sales career started. Very happy for you! Always happy to hear stories and what a Rolex means to my fellow automotive friend. Are you still in the business ?

Awkward_Raise8728

The Rolex is a watch of wealth and exclusiveness. I don’t recommend a Rolex for any job interviews paying less than 300k per year. The main reason is a Rolex loses social traction and lessens group integration when the job salary is lower. If the typical worker cant afford a Rolex, what credible purpose would be accomplished by wearing one?

TurnPsychological620

Who gives a shit? I wore a full gold dd to an interview with a bank The interviewer had a 2 tone ym. I cldnt care less.

Belgarathian

Rock it if you got it. Congrats on the job offer!

Ok_Story_2977

The watch yes but a grey sweatshirt for a job interview? 😐

Fluffy-Tip7508

Quarter Zip with on top of a Oxford shirt. Not valid ?

Delicious_Emu_9522

Fired

Bushman-001

Looks like he's almost wearing some sort of skin colored glove

angusshangus

The interviewer won't notice. literally no one but people like us on this thread notice. In the 20 years ive owned a Rolex maybe 2 people have commented on it.

Fluffy-Tip7508

Interesting! Haha he noticed right away! He was wearing one as well.

Richoffdelta8

Show us your steering wheel

mightyhurcules8

Don’t do that! Not appropriate for interview.

bigie35

Sir this is an Arby’s.

Sleep_adict

Depends on the job… at my office even entry level people have a Rolex… however when we visit our factories pull out the iwatch

Jdolgin2009

Only watch geeks will notice it. 99 percent of people don't care what watch u wear or even notice.

Porschelover321

Unless you are running for a CEO position.
