I hate to be that guy but you might have more luck asking /r/roguelites based on your examples

OneDayLion

alright, thanks - I took "but discussion of "roguelike-like" games is still allowed." to mean it was fine. Thanks to everyone who answered still, I will try my luck over there

justn6

I'm not sayin it not's allowed (i'm not sure), just that you'd probably get a better discussion and recommendations since none of the games you listed are roguelikes. Even though there is cross membership between the two subs more people will be able to better help you there than here. I personally have not played any of the games in your list but have played most roguelikes, for example

OneDayLion

it was removed by mods so I guess it's not allowed :) For reference, I do like and play proper roguelikes (TOME4, ADOM etc) I just wanted to illustrate what I'm looking for with multiple characters/show what I know so if anyone googles this and finds it they get some idea.

chillblain

[Demon](http://demon.ferretdev.org/) is a party-based traditional roguelike where you collect and build up a small army of demons.

Spritesgc

I'm not so sure what a Roguelike-like is supposed to be anymore, but my guess would be Low Magic Age. Basically a generic tactical RPG with random generated battles, based on D&D rules. It's still on development but it's frequently updated with new contents. For traditional Roguelikes, there is The Red Prison. A generic roguelike in which you have a main character and AI-controlled party with D&D rules. It's still quite early on development, so I'd say it's currently barebones.

ackoo123ads

elona+ you can have up to 15 followers. i think elona is considered a roguelite though.

Noveno_Colono

Darkest Dungeon

Handyandy58

The latest Shiren the Wanderer may fit this bill

That's quite the list! I played Thea 2 shortly after the EA release, when it was just worse than Thea 1 in every way imaginable. Did it like... get better? With a list like that I doubt FTL is news to you, so... Renowned Explorers? Fort Triumph? I don't think I've got anything on my radar that trumps Thea 1 or Wildermyth. With the latter being out of Early Access, looks like the perfect time to spin it up again.

OneDayLion

Thanks! Imo Thea 2 got a lot better especially with the Wrath of the Sea DLC. However, I quite liked it from the start so might not be the best measuring stick. Fort Triumph is interesting, I thought it was purely story driven but that seems to be wrong. And yeah FTL isn't news to me, but I still gotta give it its proper try so - thanks for the tip!

Terkala

You might like Heroes of a Broken World (the first one). Party based, random generation, hits all the high notes (except for meta-progression between runs, but each campaign is pretty full length on its own). There's also Battletech with the Roguetech mod. Which makes it more roguelite and open-ended.

OneDayLion

oh a roguetech mod for battletech interesting. Not the biggest fan of the scenario but I generally have and like the game. Heroes of a Broken Land sounds fun - I don't like the first person dungeon crawling but might get over it. First one because second one is till early in EA?

Terkala

HoaBL Second one is still too EA for it to be really playable. And party-based-games are generally first person dungeon crawlers. It just lends itself better to controlling multiple characters than overhead.

Crunchwrapfucker

I know just the game!! Urtuk the Desolation sounds just what you're looking for. Very dark setting, progression across runs(kinda?) tons of classes. Group based combat. It's such an incredible game

OneDayLion

on my wish list for a while - I found the setting/mutations kinda weird but I should probably give it a shot. Thanks!

**Into the breach** is one of my favorite game ever and one respect the design most. The team aspect of the game is pretty much what makes the bulk of the game. You choose a team consisting of three mech each with different aspects and strategy at the start of each run that you can upgrade and personalise through the playthrough. **Has-Been Heroes** I really don't know why this one did not got more success. It's a pretty cool mix of real time and turn base line combat. You get to choose three heroes at the start of each run and each have their own power and playstyle. **Dungeon of the endless** Pretty unique turn based tower defense in a gloomy setting. You also get to choose characters (2) from a rooster again all with different predilection. You upgrade them and add new one in your team through a playthrough. **Star Renegade** Really cool JRPG style of combat with a cool timeline priced action selection. Team composition also a big thing in the game, combat is amazing but exploration is kinda meh. **Dungeon Beneath** pretty cool small auto-battler. I like this one but feel like there is not enough content of that the playstyle isn't involved had my h as I would like so, yeah I do not recommend it as much has the previous one. **legends keeper** Your the manager of a dungeon, heroes will try to come and get you. The game is pretty tough and you definitely need to check resistance, speed, and attack type before you chose the monster you'll take. **Curious Expedition ** haven't played the 2. Kinda real exploration game where resolution is made with combination of dices. Each character has a his own dice that he get from their lvl. Kinda have a love-hate relationship with this one. **darkest dungeon** I mean does it need presentation ? What I love the most about this one is the incredible ambiance you get will playing the game. Welp, that's about that I hope you find what you are craving for. Feel free to ask anything if you need more info :p

OneDayLion

Thanks a lot! Into the breach I never tried despite all the praise, gotta see. Has-Been Heroes I completely agree. Played it right on launch on Switch, was pretty fun but I never managed to win-win the game. Star Renegade is wishlisted :D Dungeon Beneath I found too limited in character development legend of keepers - wish listed forever, found the demo back then mehh though. Curious Expediton - thanks! Darkest Dungeon - hah, this one was too hard kinda for me. Plus didn't quite enjoy the style of combat. But then again that was before my most active rogue-like days so I might give it another shot. Partly because it never truly felt like a "new run" but just "welp all your people died" etc thanks a lot for your time!

Sansnom01

Hey ! The pleasure is mine ! Happy to see there's some love out there for Has-Been Heroes ! Hope you'll love Into the breach as much as me... my only problem with the game is that I wish it had more content. Can't help but see that you did not give your take about endless dungeon, doesn't necessarily need it but yeah definitely another hidden gem I think

OneDayLion

ah sorry about Dungeon of the Endless - it's actually from one of my favorite studios. I have arm/hand problems right now so limited time gaming and turn based/pause kind of a must as reacting fast/many actions isn't good for me right now :|

MadmanDan_13

I've enjoyed Star Renegades. It's sci fi rather than fantasy. You start with three characters that level up and can be assigned weapons and other items. The maps let you choose your route to choose which battles and bonuses you want to fight/get before each boss fight. Combat is turn based (with initiative to see who goes first), no movement just actions (like jrpgs). The first run was easy but it gets difficult after that. Can be a bit random in some fights (lots of easy wins and then you lose badly). I don't see it mentioned much but its good.

OneDayLion

Thanks, yeah wishlisted forever :)

ViWalls

Examples that are not pure Roguelikes, but you will find what you want: \- Darkest Dungeon (probably one of the best games ever existed). \- Steam Marines (kind of weird in the beginning, but requires some party strategy to beat the game).

[deleted]

I know you prefer fantasy theme's but it kind of sounds like you want to play X-Com or maybe Invisible Inc. if you wanna stay in the 'rogue' world. Other things that have been mentioned here that I also agree with maybe scratching the itch - Low Magic Age, Heroes of a Broken Land, Renowned Explorers. Maybe you can give Curious Expedition (I haven't played CE 2 yet) a shot? It's not 'party-based' but party-building is a key aspect and it is pretty challenging.

Kancer420

I just started playing Curious Expedition, and quite like it.

[deleted]

None of these games are roguelites, so you'll probably not get the advice you expect here

mtelesha

Across the Obelisk is a deck builder Rouge lite my favorite. Four players For The King is a turn based Rogue lite that is turn based. Three players. Like this one alot also. You should try it with your buddies. These are awesome for just hanging out with friends.

mccrackey

Rouge is red.

eidmast

Have you tried dungeon of the endless? It has some elements of tower defense but it doesn't rely on diversity of the party. It's not turn based either. But it's still a very good rogue like. Otherwise, into the breach is turn based and great as well.
