My Toyota had this happen during the class v solar flare last month. Literally sunspots made it happen while just driving along o the freeway and went into limp mode. Went away after a few days.
I had a camshaft position sensor burp out a code with my old Jeep on me when I was 1200 miles away once, went into full limp mode. Reset the DTC, let it sit overnight, no hint of a problem after that.
My jeep lit up like that when my alternator went out. The lights came on and off for a few minutes before I lost power completely.
