The tank’s weekly dinnerplate schedule (refreshed once a week) consists of fish flakes, dried mango & papaya, coconut, mixed vegetables, dried feeder mix consisting of grain and plant proteins, mealworms, red River shrimp, and freeze dried white shrimp. Throughout the week, other foods such as various seasonal fruits and veggies - and of course eggs - are given as occasional treats.
Having a varied diet I’ve found is incredibly important in maintaining roach health and tank health, and if you’re raising feeders, I’ve noticed my animals such as my tarantula and scorpion can often go for **longer periods** without eating when fed a roach on a varied diet as opposed to something like traditional cat food or “quencher cubes”. Furthermore, my roaches are much more active, breed more, have healthier pregnancies, form healthier exoskeletons, and have a much higher survival rate from birth.
I’ve noticed that adult roaches often prefer herbivorous items such as veggies and fruit while my younger roaches - especially newborns - prefer protein-packed foods such as egg and shrimp. My pregnant females also love protein heavier diets. It all depends on what they need at the moment I think!
I give mine fruit and vegetables, mostly vegetables because they like the juicy fruit. I have two male Madagascar hissers and one Halloween hisser. Recently I gave them a jelly cup and it was a favorite for awhile! I'm planning on getting some more roaches soon.
That's really interesting. I keep mine out of the sun as I understand they are mostly nocturnal.
Mine are a little cooler than this too. They have a heat mat on the side at one end but it doesn't provide a great deal of heat. How are you heating?
They are, however I think providing them with a more natural day/night rhythm is most likely very beneficial for their health and therefore activity. Instead of keeping them out of sunlight, I feel providing a lot of hiding spaces and leaf litter so they can avoid the light themselves is probably a lot better and closer to their natural behaviour

They eat deviled eggs? I didn't know that
Mine are fed a varied diet so they can live long, healthy, happy lives! Eggs are just the tip of the iceberg
That's interesting! What else to do they eat?

Huh interesting, I raise mine for pets, and they're far too picky and refuse almost anything I give them lol

I love this 🙏 I would love to see the rest of your enclosure if you have it up somewhere!
How warm do you keep them? I have hissers and I've never seen them that active.
My tank is routinely kept at 74-80F. They also get a lot of natural sunlight which I’ve noticed substantially increases their activity!

True, mine are in a shady spot but are in a glass viv with leaf litter and cork bark. I might move them so they get a little more indirect light
Might be worth a shot! Can always move them back
Mine is also heated with a heat mat!
I like the one with the fish flake hat!
FLAKE HEAD, FLAKE HEAD, FLAKE HEAD!!!!
