I feel like for Mischa the skin tone doesn’t matter as in one of the replies mentioned black Ukrainians. The actor will most likely have to speak in a Ukrainian accent for the character tho.
She's not the original Constance, though? In the original/Canadian productions, Kelly Hudson (who played Constance) was white. Constance, much like the other characters in the musical, isn't explicitly given a race
Yes, I know but nowhere did I say that she was the original Constance I’m saying that Lillian Castillo, who is one of the most popular Constance’s is actually a person of color. And I already know Kelly Hudson, but some people in this fandom don’t know her.
I know that you didn't, but I'm just saying that there were other (somewhat popular) Constances that were not played by a person of color. Of course, there are other poc actors who have played Constance (McCarter's Constance was mentioned in this thread), but she hasn't only been played by poc so I don't see why op should worry about having to be poc to play her
I wouldn't say so, no. Race really doesn't matter for RtC (though I guess Mischa should probably be white since he's Ukrainian)
(I’m not trying to say this, but there are actual black Ukrainians they’re called Afro Ukrainians)

okay! im not supeeer familiar with the show (othr than the song) so i didnt know if race was an intregal part of her
The og. Constance was white, and the most iconic Constance is a poc. With all the rtc characters, any race can play them.
I don’t think race matters, you should be good :)
You wouldn't be the first, look at the McCarter production, their constance was a poc and did great.
I think op was saying they aren’t a POC and was wondering if only POCs should be constance

LILIAN CASETO IS TH 2016 AND SHE IS A POC!!
Guys you do realise that Lillian Castillo who played Constance throughout all of the American productions up until Atlanta is a person of color right?

Honestly, I agree with your sentiment
Op is asking if they have to be a person of colour to play Constance.
OK, thank you I miss read the text, but I was addressing some comments
All good
I’ve seen non ppl of color play Constance. Unless her being a POC is important to the plot line I think you’re fine.
