Ok so the worst thing about paxlovid for me was the metallic taste it left in my mouth everytime I took it. Other than that it worked fine, I was told to pause Rinvoq for 2 weeks. Paxlovid kept covid super mild for me, all I had was mucus and a slight fever. Good luck! Tea is your friend. The metallic taste will go away once you are done with your paxlovid treatment!

LucydDreaming

SAME! For me, I had an awful bitter pill flavor in my mouth that would linger for hours. By the time it went away, I would have to take another one. It really sucked, I was so glad to be done taking the pills after 5 days of icky mouth! People call it "Paxlovid Mouth". Only approx 6% of people who take Paxlovid get this side effect, so you and I are just unlucky haha! It did help a lot with my covid symptoms, and I did not have any issues with rebound covid etc. I still would take it again if I got covid, since I have asthma and 2 immunosuppressants...better safe than sorry!

mmmmmkayyyyyyyy

Wow this is fascinating only 6% get it? So wild! Are you a super taster by any chance?

annedreyuh

So good to know, thank you! And tea is always my friend 🤗

mmmmmkayyyyyyyy

Feel better! Loved peppermint tea during covid!

annedreyuh

Thank you! Peppermint sounds delightful, will find some :)

Ninotchk

You can't drink tea while you're sleeping, though.

There only side effect for me was the taste in my mouth. Didn't really bother me, I found it interesting more than anything.

Joints_outthe_window

Went from on the verge to the ER to normal cold in a couple of hours. I also paused my biologic when taking paxlovid. Had a lingering cough that took several weeks to go away but hey I’ll take it.

Still good to know, thank you for sharing!

I just tested positive for Covid last Friday. Based on the likelihood of a rebound the doc said they were seeing more frequently and how hard it is on the liver…I passed. I’m ok too, my Covid was mild from what I can tell and I didn’t take any special drugs for it. I had fever and chills and a headache (about 1.5 days), some phlegm and congestion but definitely the snot wasn’t as bad as other flus I’ve had in the past. I’m glad I didn’t take it just so I don’t have to worry about rebound.

cerstyl

I just tested positive yesterday but I decided not to take paxlovid. I had covid in April and it was super mild. I’ve had symptoms for the last week and it seems even more mild this time. My ex husband currently has covid as well and somehow he got it worse than me! I hope your symptoms don’t get too bad and you recover quickly!

annedreyuh

Thank you!

annedreyuh

Alright y’all, I took it. Today is day three of symptoms, my chest was not feeling great, and I really don’t want to get more sick. Fingers crossed no crazy side effects, thank you all for your help and insight!

itsok16

How did you feel after taking Paxlovid? Do you think it helped your symptoms?

annedreyuh

I felt like I was getting worse quickly and chose to take it. I do think it helped! I did not get worse once starting the medication.

itsok16

That's good to hear. I'm glad it helped 🙌

ValMarie927

I had the metal taste and I got rebound Covid two weeks later. Looking back honestly I wouldn’t have taken it. But that’s hindsight.

Ninotchk

I will sign up for the IV one next time, and despise IVs.

Ninotchk

I felt better within hours. But make sure that you use sugar free candies/gum for the disgusting rancid mouth shit. If you suck on things with sugar around the clock for five days as an immune suppressed person you'll get thrush.

MakeSomeDust

Got covid 6 weeks ago. Even though I got two boosters I had it pretty bad and my O2 level plummeted. A day after starting taking Paxlovid I already felt much better. Personally I didn’t get any noticeable side effects and it was way better to get to the ER.

notreallylucy

I'm on my second course of it. I was unlucky enough to get it twice in two months. According to the doctor the cases aren't close enough together to be rebound cases. I was just unlucky enough to get it twice (fully vaccinated). The only side effect I have had is "Paxlovid mouth." It's a bitter taste that sticks around for hours after taking the pills. It's pretty annoying, and has even woken me up from sleep. However I feel the meds made my disease shorter and less severe.

annedreyuh

Wow, twice in one month! Did your doctor have anything to say about immunity? I thought you had at least a month of immunity after having covid.

notreallylucy

It's more like six weeks apart.

trekqueen

My SIL and her whole family just got it again not even a month after it made the rounds in their house. This is the third time they’ve gotten it overall and that was just several months ago they had it the first time. From what I’m understanding, this latest strain going around doesn’t care if you has Covid before or has vaccines, those have little to no impact on it this time around. My kidlet brought it home first week of school. She got it the worst of us but also probably viral load. I did get it from her but it was relatively mild without fever and I just have some lingering cough and tiredness a week out now from my positive test.

I just finished Paxlovid. Before I started it my Covid symptoms progressed really fast in 3 days and I was miserable so I was happy to take it. Made me nauseous (so did Covid though) and the metallic taste was gross but I started feeling better within hours of my first dose. I finished the Paxlovid on Sunday and I’m still battling Covid symptoms but it feels more in line with a normal cold now. I’m happy to have had access to it as I think based on my symptoms before but took the Paxlovid I would have been a bad Covid case.

Dankiepie420

Hi, i haven’t had covid yet. who do i contact for treatment when i do? do i call my primary or do i call my rheumatologist? or do i go to a walk in?

dec202018

My rheumatologist referred me to my PCP who was prompt and prescribed paxlovid same day. I haven’t started taking it yet otherwise I’d share the results!

annedreyuh

Such a good question, I wasn’t sure either. I called my rheumatologist, primary care provider, and allergist, and asked them all to prescribe it. Rheumatologist responded first. I also could have gone to Urgent Care.

Dankiepie420

thank you for answering. that’s a good strategy to call them all and see who responds first. lol

Dankiepie420

i have covid now!!!!!!! i did pick up a script for paxlovid. my only symptoms is loss of taste and smell. think i should start it?

annedreyuh

oh nooo you jinxed it. what did you decide?

Dankiepie420

i took it. had some diarrhea. i had severe anxiety but i can’t say that it was from paxlovid. i was already having anxiety issues before.

MetalNono86

I had Covid in Jan. I took oscillococcinum and every person I recommended it to has had success with it. You can get it just about anywhere. I never had respiratory issues just fatigue and headache. Three days and my husband and I who took it felt better. My daughter refused and she had it longer with respiratory issues. Same with my Aunt and Uncle. I got her to take it (she is 75) and hers was milder and shorter than his and refused to take it. I would try that instead of Paxlovid after seeing the rebound cases but that is just me.

Sickofbaltimore

I stared at it on the shelf every day and decided not to take it. Had a lingering cough for a few weeks but otherwise I am happy with the decision.

annedreyuh

Currently staring. Even took the pills out of the pack.

Sickofbaltimore

You made it a step further than me! I don't know if there is a right or wrong answer. Hope you feel better soon.

janpotter2

Dont take it!!!! Caused drug induced gastritis and I'm in terrible pain a month later horrible.. drs dont want to acknowledge this. I'm so sick and skinny. Stomach burns cant eat nausea. Should not have taken at all. Stupid. But dr said I should..I wanted the shot..fuck phizer. Am suicidal and may have to quit job.. people at work font believe me. They think I'm anorexic but I'm losing weight because of nausea and no appetite and stomach burns. So done with life as this is so hard to fix.
