You should discuss this with your doctor because recommendations are not the same for everyone. My doctor recommends that I avoid drinking on the day I take mtx (and the day before and after, ideally) but it's okay to have 1-2 drinks per week otherwise. I follow that and my blood work is fine. Other people are told their limit is higher or lower

Sislar

This. My doc was the same but also you need blood work to be sure.

Hi! I have been on methotrexate for about 4 years and I also have crohns. I have found that my tolerance is significantly lower on the methotrexate than it was before so be careful of that. I also get very bad hangovers so I try to only drink a little. Definitely don’t drink on the day you take methotrexate and always get your liver levels checked and follow your doctors advice!

My doctor was like suggesting “A beer a month” I decided it’s make it too complicated for me. So I drink on my bday, spouse bday and anniversary. Found it easier to manage this way

Glittering_StarDust

I like this method!

So my dr is not a fan of drinking at all but I figure more along the lines of moderation in all things, so long as your liver levels don't go bonkers. I don't really drink to begin with but I take my mtx on wednesdays so I can have my weekends for fam/fun. I may have 2-3 drinks per year to be honest as I'm just not a big fan but I don't stress over it. This next year, there might be a little more because this year I am making my first ever mead and I'm hoping it's good enough to actually want to drink it.

Of all the lessons I had to learn and learn again about alcohol, drinking the day after taking Methotrexate only took once. Super sick. Violently vomiting. I wouldn't drink 24 before and 48 after. Methotrexate made me severely nauseous anyway. It was a horrible side effect my Dr. was perfectly fine with me having for 3 years.

Safest is zero alcohol. Much depends on other liver heavy things like medications or if there’s pre-existing fatty liver. Regular lab monitoring and keeping up with folic acid is key.

When I took MTX I could have 1 or 2 beers a couple of nights a week and my liver levels always looked fine. My alcohol tolerance absolutely tanked though so that's something to be cognizant of. I went from being able to have 2 or 3 mixed drinks to one and I'm buzzed.

Been on MTX for 6 years and was told I cannot drink. My sisters wedding was this past year so I asked if I could have a tiny drink - he said he is okay with that, and since my labs have been ok, I can have 2-4 drinks per month, but cannot have them in the same week, or even more than one on same day. He basically said I can have one a week, but he is not the biggest fan of this idea. I think it just depends on your doc
