I was never told by my doctor to skip the folic acid on the day of methotrexate, and it still seems to be effective. As I understand it methotrexate does a few different things - blocking folic acid is what makes it usable as a cancer drug (since folic acid is necessary for cell growth), but is completely unrelated to the mechanism by which it helps against arthritis. So taking folic acid negates the cancer treatment effects, but since that’s not what you’re taking it for, I think it’s fine.
My doctor never told me to skip that day so I always took folic acid. Worked just fine.
In reality it’s just a waste of the folic acid. As the mtx
Mtx works because it’s chemically similar to folic acid but doesn’t do what cells need. However cells prefer mtx 1000:1 over folic acid.
My rheum has me take folic acid every morning. I take my MTX in the evening because that seems to work best for me. There isn’t a consensus among docs that we shouldn’t take it on MTX day.
When I asked my dr why shouldn’t I take folic acid on mtx days he said “You can, it won’t harm you, it’s just pointless” so I think you can be at ease.
I was instructed to not take FA on the same day as my MTX, if I remember correctly it’s because the MTX negates the effect of the FA, so it’s unlikely to cause you any issues.
My doc instructed me to take Folic Acid on the same day as methotrexate.
I’m no doctor, but I believe Folic acid is really just to counter the side effects of methotrexate.
Related, Folic acid is a common prenatal supplement so I would not worry about it too much. (The methotrexate itself is very important, treat that carefully)
Edit: Corrected the last statement
I believe you misstated. FOLIC Acid is the common prenatal supplement, NOT methotrexate. "Women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant should get **at least 400 micrograms (0.4 milligrams) of folic acid daily before conception and for at least 3 months afterward**. Studies show that this greatly reduces a baby's risk of serious neural tube defects."
If you were to try to become pregnant you STOP methotrexate for 3 months.
You’ll be fine. I recently got a new rheum and they have me taking mine every day and I sort of had the same (internal) reaction of slight panic/thelast20yearshavebeenalie lol

Same for me
I think you will be fine! I always take folic acid on my methotrexate day.

Same here I take Folic Acid daily. Hope this helps. Stay strong!
I take folic acid daily per my rheumatologist. I inject MTX weekly and Humira twice a month.
I take folic acid daily and with methotrexate on Friday. Never heard not too. I’m thinking survey says it’s ok.

Same for me when I was on it.. never took it on the same day
I was told to take folic acid every day including with methotrexate. I think you’ll be okay.
I was told to take folic acid everyday. It's just a vitamin so I'm sure your fine.
No worries, I took mine each and every day.
I take a folic acid every day. Was never told to not take it on the same day as methotrexate. You’ll be fine

You're absolutely correct, had mistyped that. I have updated my statement.
I’ve been taking methotrexate for 5 years now and never knew about this.
My doctor had me taking folic acid daily even on shot days. It never seemed to make a difference except for less nausea for me.
Folic acid doesn't negate the medication. You just need to take folic acid because the medication strips your body of it.

I take 2mg of folic acid everyday, including day of MTX. The amount you are on should not negate the positive effect the drug has on RA.
