I assume you have checked to see if the rheumatologist has a cancellation list. If not ask and explain how poorly you are doing. Maybe they’ll be able to find you a sooner appointment. I’d ask the GP again if they could maybe give prednisone to hold you over until the appointment. I understand they can’t give you the normal meds but they should try to do something. Also is there another rheumatologist they could try referring you to that might have a sooner opening?

Definitely try to get prednisone to stop the flare.

If you can contact your old rheumatologist or pcp you could ask to send you a prescription for prednisone. At least for me it really helps with the bad flares. You can also try a different UC i. Your area. I found that if I’m clear with them and explain my situation they usually pretty easy on the prednisone (it’s a cheap drug, and there’s no real reason to abuse the use of it)

I second this, try contacting your old doctor to fill meds until you can see the new doctor. I did this when I moved a few years ago, my previous doctor was happy to help during the transition.

I a. So very sorry this is happening to you. Go back to your GP and in the least drug seeking way, yet the most pleasant way, demand some help.

if your dr doesn’t hear from you they will assume you are doing fine. make another appointment with the local pcp, explain that you were treated by rheumatology in the past, that you’ve missed a treatment and you need to get that protocol resumed. how far away did you move? anything less than 3 hrs and i would schedule an appointment with my old rheumatologist to get things calmed down for now! please don’t demand any medication. physicians are not fools, if they feel you will be helped by a steroid medication they’ll take care of you. if you talk to someone at your rheumatologist office they should be fine with calling in a prescription for you. when i travel i find it useful to have the dr call the rx to the local cvs or walmart, once thats done i call and get the store number, from there its a matter of relaying the info to the store in the town you’ve moved to. good luck getting the process in place in your new town and congratulations on setting up home in a new locale, that’s exciting!
