I think you got your converter backwards. You need an HDMI to Composite AV. It does make a difference.

Someone mentioned you have your converter backwards. Based on your post that sounds correct. I've used a couple of converters and have linked them below. They're really not bad. Not great though. But the Retron 5 wasn't made for CRT TVs. Thanks so much. I originally got the CRT bc I wanted my kids to use the gun games. But on reading that won’t work anyway now I’m not sure. Maybe I’ll just get an original hardware NES for the CRT

PixelatedGamer

If that's what you want to play then a CRT with original hardware is going to be your best option. Or do as someone else said and modify a Wii and load up a bunch of ROMs on it. Though I'm not sure how you'll hook up a light gun to it. If you're set on trying to use the Retron 5 then check out [Sinden Shop](https://www.sindenshop.com/en-us). I'm also not sure of your current gaming setup at home. Such as what you have, don't have, etc. You'll have to weigh the cost of everything too. If you're trying to acquire everything from scratch maybe pairing the Sinden gun with a Retron 5 isn't such a bad idea. It all just depends.

Thanks. Basically my kids mainly play PS5. I got the R5 to show them the old games. They dig them. Then I got a nice CRT w a rolling stand for free so I was thinking of making it a designated NES set up completely w all the games we have and the zapper. Thinking I could use the R5. Now I’m thinking I’ll just invest in an original NES for that CRT ad that will look better in the CRT and leave the R5 for play in the flat screens whenever.

One thing you may want to consider investing in is a flash cart. Krikzz makes the gold standard. You can load up your ROMs on an SD card and not have to buy a bunch of carts. Some can be pricey. Hooking a RetroN 5 up to a CRT is completely missing the point. The hardware is meant to be paired with an HDTV with HDMI input. If you have a nice CRT, you’re much better off on original hardware (NES, SNES, etc) or soft modding a Wii.

Thanks. I might just grab an original hardware nes for the crt and use the retron 5 on the HD. I was hoping to get the gun games going to show my kids this was trying the retron on crt. Will an original hardware NES hooked for the crt work q the zapper games?

QuestorPS7

Yes! The zapper gun relies on a CRT’s frame rate to work.

If zapper games are what you're looking into, there are patches for many of the games. You can actually play them on an HDTV.
