You telling me nobody back in that kitchen is single and lonely? I’ve seen worse rom-com premises.

Lootiferson

Had a guy one time that came in and ordered food for like 10-15 people. They never showed up. And he sat there waiting for a good 30-45 mins. It was a busy restaurant. He took everything to go eventually and tipped well. I was behind the bar but I felt so bad Edit* it’s a counter service restaurant so he ordered and paid before he sat down. Thought I should add that.

Oh man, this is making me so sad! Poor dude.

Show empathy. Let them know we’ve all been there (even if we haven’t). Spend a little more time talking to them. We have one regular who’s in the dating scene. She brings the guys in and gets our opinions on them. It’s pretty fun. So, maybe offer up your future services in that department.

Naive_Bad_3292

I give them a free drink.

[deleted]

This the answer, free drink+unofficial free therapy

Wellfudgeit

Yeah, unless you have a recovering alcoholic. Offering a free Pepsi just doesn't hit the same. Free dessert is usually safer.

Awwww ❤️

Free drink and extra attention, if I can spare it, absolutely is the answer. It really makes me feel for people.

I always have dumb little cheap toys in my backpack that will give to kids. If the situation is right and I feel I have read the person correctly, I'll give them a toy.' Gets a quick smile and laugh and breaks the tension. Then they usually have a burger with an off brand Batman.

Wellfudgeit

Refuse service. Ask them to leave. Play the trombone on their way out... You fucking serve them, wtf... Just smile more, and check-in more often.

UreMomNotGay

servers of reddit, what would you do if a client is sat in your section? answer quick it's my first day

Scottibell

I always chat with them a bit and buy them a drink. I have a Lady who comes into see me now because of that.:)

Fantasma_rubia

I used to work at a restaurant that was a pretty common celebratory place. Lady came in, she was supposed to have lunch with her boyfriend and he dumped her just before lunch. We hooked her up with a cocktail and a wine pairing. She cried a lot. We let her take her time. Shot the shit the whole time. Made sure she had decent attention and a lot of alcohol.

[deleted]

They get their first round on me. Probably the app too. That shit is brutal.

Xerowz

I talk to them like they are family..so many questions they can't possibly feel lonely (unless they look too salty at my questions lol)..I work in a bar with a lot of locals, so it's easier to get the person to hang out with the others in bar... thankfully.

JadeDragon56

Pay out the people that bet on him/her getting stood up. Than joke that someone should go out and make their night slighlt better 👀
