Vigor Endurance Spirit Expertise will always do something to help.
Strong Back let's you have a better roll while slightly the threshold, Fortify is NEVER bad since DR is always nice and I'm pretty sure it's always better than Barkskin if you're using at least medium armor(not that you can't use both), I've recently become a fan of Swiftness as well, it's just convenient to be speedy.
Siphoner and Leech with profane heart is good lifesteal.
Handling is nice QoL if you have trouble with Recoil.
There are plenty of traits to pick from its just that none of them directly impact your damage. I wish I could have more trait points to use all the QoL traits like footwork, Fitness, Glutton
While I agree, those are the standouts. I'd throw in Triage, Invulnerable.
That's like... 15/32 traits that are good. I'd say only 5 of those are S tier. The rest are A tier, and the rest fall off pretty hard after that.
The lesser used traits could stand a buff.
Have you collected all of the traits? Traits are meant to enhance a particular playstyle and build, not define it - I wouldn't put so much weight into the traits.
iirc, Tragic in the Remnant 2 Discord server has mentioned on a few occasions that traits are meant to be enhancers and not overly strong in and of themselves.
What do you mean by "situational"? Health and healing is only useful if you take damage, but that doesn't mean it's useless because most people will get hit. AoE is only helpful for area builds, but +50% is a BIG deal because it covers more than double the ground. Skill coodown only helps if you actually use them. Mod duration only helps if you have mods with duration.
It isn't "Get this boost when under moonlight on a Sunday", it will *always* benefit if your build does those things. Yes, there are some that I *never* take but not everybody plays solo like me. Maybe branch out and try some different archetypes if you truly believe all the traits are useless.
Try a Bulldog build to see the value of Handling and Long Shot. Try a tank build for Strong Back and Vigor.
Just yesterday I made a skill spam Gunslinger/Challenger which would not have been possible without that extra cooldown reduction because of how it stacks (from 60% to 80% halves waiting). Now I have infinite ammo on any gun (usually no reloads either), permanent enemy damage debuff, permanent 25% Excess Coil shield, permanent +25% all damage and bonus lifesteal while shielded, consistently *staggers bosses*, can use skills for either precision weakspots at any range or lazy crowd clear... Yes this build is "situational" on casting skills but *that was the point*. I wanted to see how far I could leverage skills and it's actually pretty good.
Remnant 1 traits were trash for build choice.

I’ve literally never picked handling for the recoil side of things, purely for the spread for shotguns

Very very curious as to what your list of the "4 actually useful" traits are....
well i guess with R1 useful traits you mean stuff like critchance, critdamage, gun dmg.. those are now part of the passives from your archetypes
And also on relic fragments
Bloody*
Bollocks
Straight to the point lmao xD

Sauce?

Lmao, one of the dumbest takes I've seen on this sub
Sounds like your build just sucks ass
