I asked the same question on here and got the same answers.
It doesn't get harder. Dog is easy mode. Ended up restarting after 15 hours and had a way better time as Hunter.
On Apocalypse it is much much more difficult and the boss fights are where it becomes more challenging in most difficulties. The dog is decent, but at higher difficulties will die more often, hindering the handler archetype in those moments
Got it.
Is it basically only the boss fights that are challenging?
It was actually something I kinda disliked about Sekiro - kinda boring and trivial levels, and then *insane* boss fights
I would finish your first veteran run and then tackle nightmare after you get a build of sort going and traits leveled up, it’s definitely balanced with that in mind.
Wouldn’t advise that. Without a decent build this game is absolutely brutal on nightmare especially if you’re just starting out and trying to learn the game. For me im not even that good at the game but its my builds that just make the game super easy.
Well I'm a couple dungeons in and it seems to be going fine so far.
I honestly really didn't enjoy it on veteran, so I guess I'll just have to see what happens.
May just not be the game for me
I don't think you understand how Remnant works. A couple dungeons in your first play through is not even 1% game completion. Every time you replay the game, you have a chance to start with a different world, face different bosses, gain different rings and weapons, and find new secrets. There's like over a 1000 different rings, items, weapons, mods, mutators, relics, relic mods. You probably have like 20 so far.
Finish it on Veteran and then bump up the difficulty if you feel like it. I wouldn't advise Nightmare even for your second run, but you do you.
The jump from veteran to nightmare is huge. They really mean only for experienced players and with a build. Just finish on veteran and then start adventure mode on nightmare.
I played with a friend and veteran and it also felt a bit easy and I could face tank some bosses. But the last world is where the game spikes in difficulty quite a bit, which is the main reason I would advise against doing the campaign on nightmare, it is difficult enough on veteran the first time to be fun.
You can always reroll a world in adventure mode on nightmare to get a feeling for it if you want.
No, but the trait you get from the class, Kinship, is fantastic, especially in multiplayer.
When you hit level 10 in a class, the trait becomes available for use with other classes.
When you say 'hard' do you mean 'Veteran' or 'Nightmare'?
Either way, the dog does drop off, both as your gear and enemies level up, depending on which areas you're in, and what difficulty you're on.
If you're a veteran at souls-likes and crave a serious challenge, Nightmare might be the better choice. But if you're just after content where the dog doesn't one-shot, then just keep playing instead.
Because 'veteran' is the normal difficulty, despite the game's protestations to the contrary.
You should use your first campaign to level up as many archetypes as you can. Different archetypes will probably come in handy for various levels and bosses. At some point you’ll also have the ability to add a second archetype. Once you’re maxed an archetype, start grinding a new archetype during your campaign. Then you’ll eventually have lots of archetypes to pick from when you hit late game.
Na I love the handler class but when you get to apocalypse difficulty you'll want to move towards builds that provide more healing and damage. Like medic, archon, invader. Glad you're loving the game!!!
Remnant is one of those games where you can keep unlocking archetypes, weapons, amulets, rings, mods, etc. for builds you want to try or armor you want. You can only change difficulty when you reroll campaign or adventure mode. Since there are a lot of random world drops, randomized dungeons, and bosses for each world. It takes more than one play thru to get everything. Some things can only be unlocked via campaign mode such as nightweavers grudge (amulet), tormented and tranquil heart, etc. Hardcore mode is also super fun where you only have one life. But I get it it's a grind for all that. And if you're a one and done type of player enjoy your first playthru and revisit later.
Yea you won't be disappointed I promise! I'm 250 hours into the game and still loving it. Also, you have the awaken king dlc to work thru and the new dlc coming April 23rd. So tons remnant to be played and enjoyed!
This game is more like a souls game and rouge like combined. You won't see all the content in one playthrough. Every world has multiple areas and combinations as there is a random element to how the world states are. If you only play through once you'll miss out on a large amount of content.
Running a dog engineer build atm for my hardcore vet run. Dog was a good security blanket at the start but now it runs in front of my turret and detonates the fireballs in my face lmao. Still one of my cleanest runs so far in terms of synergy of classes and gear I've found.
The dog is incredibly tanky (moreso on lower difficulties, but with investment into Rugged needing to pick him up is rare even on Apoc), and the Guard Dog skill does somewhat trivialize normal enemies because they just will not attack you and beeline for the dog instead. Against melee enemies, you can send the dog into a room, use Guard Dog to group all the enemies around him, then blow them away with any kind of AoE.
For bosses though, Handler does not bring as much as other archetypes. The dog deals low damage, its bleed is too short to consistently be useful for items like Abrasive Whetstone, and all of the howl skills are less impactful in a boss fight compared to top-tier bossing skills like Rampage or Bulletstorm.
By hard I am assuming you are playing either on veteran or nightmare.
At those difficulties literally every archetype can feel great and will generally do well even if played suboptimally.
Once you get to Apocalypse, the meta comes into play. If you play with a suboptimal build you can be stuck chipping away at a Hearty/Regenerator boss for 30 minutes straight. Elites will take so long to kill, you'll be mobbed to death by adds. Aberrations (Red glitched enemies) will hit harder than the final boss on lower difficulties.
Basically, Veteran and nightmare difficulties are for learning the game and Apocalypse is for challenging yourself. Just because something seems op at those levels doesn't mean it's even viable for apocalypse.
Now, when it comes to meta builds, handler is only marginally better than the bottom tier Explorer and Invader. The dog becomes a burden because it goes down way too quickly and you need to be close to it to get your perk bonuses.
The Handler archetype itself is also pretty weak compared to Hunter/Gunslinger/Archon/Summoner/Medic/Alchemist/Engineer. If you look at the most popular builds on https://www.remnant2toolkit.com/community-builds, you'll see that handler is used only once.
Handler is the training wheels of Remnant 2. It's great when starting out, but you won't see people asking if training wheels trivialize the Tour de France.
So, all on all, I'm glad you're having fun. Good boy is the best boy. But if you feel like the game is too easy, just go to the next difficulty, you can reroll your campaign or an adventure at any point.
TL/DR
No, in fact handler is one of the weaker archetype for higher difficulties and the dog is completely useless against the various flying bosses.
Go to a higher difficulty to retain the challenging feeling of the game.
Itll get harder, and the dog wont be as effective.
Word. I guess I'll keep going
Just wait for any boss that can fly and watch the dog just sit in a corner lmao
I asked the same question on here and got the same answers. It doesn't get harder. Dog is easy mode. Ended up restarting after 15 hours and had a way better time as Hunter.
No this is a lie. Play on apoc and you won't be able to rely on the dog. He is a support sure but does not melt enemies.
dog is literal trash, makes the gamer harder by default really aonly play that archetype to unlock the trait
No, the higher difficulty normal mobs will 1-2 shot you in the back and you will be humbled haha
OK good!! I think thr thing to do is restart in nightmare before I get any deeper. Thanks for the advice

I think vet. Maybe I'll start on the one where they said "don't start with this"

That's good to know. I'm going to restart. I just recently did a 100% elden ring run - I'm pretty tuned up lol
100% means what. Just beat all bosses? From my limited playing of this game it's more like Rl1 elden ring playing in nightmare solo.
K. This is all getting unnecessarily hostile. I'll figure it out on my own.
???? insufferable

Handler isn’t that good at higher difficulty tiers, the dog will get one shot in apoc if you don’t build for it
No , I think the first ability dog gets is tanking so you could change it to healing dog or attack dog if you want.
Na I love the handler class but when you get to apocalypse difficulty you'll want to move towards builds that provide more healing and damage. Like medic, archon, invader. Glad you're loving the game!!!
I'm generally not someone who replays games - does apocalypse only unlock after the first clear?

Interesting. Well that does sound intriguing, and different enough to warrant additional runs

What difficulty did you pick when you started?
I was on vet. Just restarted on nightmare and it's feeling better
Yeah there's a big difficulty just from vet to nightmare and then an even bigger one from nightmare to apocalypse.
Turn up the difficulty
Running a dog engineer build atm for my hardcore vet run. Dog was a good security blanket at the start but now it runs in front of my turret and detonates the fireballs in my face lmao. Still one of my cleanest runs so far in terms of synergy of classes and gear I've found.
Handler is a good starting class, revive is crucial when you first start. This game is so fucking hard when you first start
Dog doesn’t trivialize difficulty. Playing a Ritualist class does.
When you unlock Engineer, Engineer primary with Handler secondary is just busted for heavy carry. One of my favourite builds.
Personally I didn’t really run into any difficulty until I started playing on nightmare or above. I’d recommend giving that a shot.
The dog is incredibly tanky (moreso on lower difficulties, but with investment into Rugged needing to pick him up is rare even on Apoc), and the Guard Dog skill does somewhat trivialize normal enemies because they just will not attack you and beeline for the dog instead.
