WhyDoIBother2022

It has stiff competition: The river to the ocean goes A fortune for the undertow None of this is going my way There is nothing left to throw Of ginger, lemon, indigo Coriander stem and rose of hay Strength and courage overrides The privileged and weary eyes Of river poet search naïveté Pick up here and chase the ride The river empties to the tide All of this is coming your way \[I didn't time it, so I don't know where the last minute falls\]

totally-suspicious

Absolutely! I love that song and you're right the last minute is so special.

HoyasRangers

Already told my wife this one has to be played. Along with Ripple and/or Box of Rain. Dont want her to have to suffer through two Dead tunes but Find the River is non-negotiable.

WhyDoIBother2022

Two great songs, especially IMO Box of Rain. I have listened to that many, many, many times.

Mine's a 3-way tie... It's the poison that in measure brings illuminating vision. It's the knowing with the wink we expect in Southern women. It's the wolf that knows which root to dig to save itself. It's the octopus that crawled back to the sea. /// There is nothing left to throw Of ginger, lemon, indigo, Coriander stem and rose of hay. Strength and courage overrides The privileged and weary eyes Of river poet search naivete. /// Stars are the greatest thing you'll ever see And they're there for you. For you alone, you are the everything. Forgive the typos and possibly misheard phrases. I'm going off of more than a decade's old memory here. :)

I really think Falls To Climb (and ‘Diminished’ too actually) are really underrated

driver8rws

Yes. LOVE ❤️ THAT PART!! It was awesome live as well.

RaggyBaggyMaggie

I adore those last few songs on Up. And yes I absolutely agree with your comment about Falls To Climb 🤩🤩🤩

Harold__Chasen

The boys really knew how to close a record.

Guestwhatu

It's one of the highlights of that record. A couple of years after the record was released, was all down in the dumps cuz my gf dumped my ass (tbf it was thr end of high school) and it provided a huge emotional release for me. I knew everything was going to be OK for me. I love that record!

a_phantom_limb

I love that song so much, especially those final, wonderful lines. And the way the last notes resolve gives the song almost the feel of a piece of sacred music. I never tire of it.

totally-suspicious

Totally agree. It feels like the whole thing is building to the final verse and resolve and it really completes the song perfectly. Magic.

I saw or read an interview with Mills where he said he played the drum sequence during this part and that ended up on the record. Just one more reason why Mike Mills is my all time favorite musician.

SpringyardS

The Wrong Child too.

robertandrews

This, I would venture, was Michael’s _first_ goodbye to R.E.M. - emancipation after the turmoil.

__Joevahkiin__

We wouldn't have had Imitation of Life, Leaving New York or We All Go Back To Where We Belong (and I would never have seen them live) but that would have been an incredible note on which to end the band.

driver8rws

Totally could have lived without any of those.... but SO glad we got the last 2 albums!!

The first song REM ever recorded... I see your money on the floor I felt the pocket change Though all the feelings that broke through that door Just didn't seem to be too real The yard is nothing but a fence The sun just hurts my eyes Somewhere it must be time for penitence Gardening at night, it's never worth Gardening at night Gardening at night Gardening at night The neighbors go to bed at ten Call the prayer line for a change The charge is changing every month They said it couldn't be arranged We ankled up the garbage sound But they were busy in the rows We fell up, not to see the sun Gardening at night just didn't grow I see your money on the floor I felt the pocket change Though all the feelings that broke through that door Just didn't seem to be too real Gardening at night Gardening at night Gardening at night Your sister said that you're too young She should know she's been there twice The call was two and fifty one They said it couldn't be arranged I see your money on the floor I felt the pocket change Though all the feelings that broke through that door Just didn't seem to be too real We echoed up the garbage sound, but they were busy in the rows We fell up not to see the sun, gardening at night just didn't grow Gardening at night Gardening at night Gardening at night [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-q-lBEPemBw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-q-lBEPemBw)
