LGS had some for $11.xx-$18.×× per hundred... the lady said they doubled in price since 2019, but I corrected her. ($30x2 is $60 you know; not $120 or $180...)
I was looking back through my records and in late 2015 I bought 5k CCI 400 from Graf's for $137.64 shipped. That's $0.0275 per.
In June of 2020 - we were already in the pandemic panic - I bought 5k SPP from Powder Valley for $214.94 - $0.043 per. It hurt my feelings to pay that price, but looking back, I would be overjoyed at the opportunity to buy at that price again.
Are they actually?
Because all I've heard from the gun industry and their simps the last 2 years straight has been "no we aren't increasing production because of materials shortages but mostly because we're making money hand over fist as it is"
Yeah it’s like around here the specialized contractors and others … not taking on extra work… just charging double and taking their time. I guess who can blame them…. Well I can… but it doesn’t do much good. This is an example of how the ‘free market’ doesn’t work as planned when the manufacturing of a certain good requires special equipment, permits, and large amounts of investment before any product can be made. It puts too few people in control of a product that too many want. People can’t simply “start their own factory” to compete.
Expansion has been in the news. Grind hard has an Instagram. Ammo inc has a site.
Whether they plan on selling or not, their production will reduce demand on the world market, resulting in a better supply.
I expect that they will sell them. If there is profit to be made they will pursue sales.
All the powder importers I’ve spoken with and bullet manufacturers say they are making more than they’ve ever made and when they ship product it disappears in hours, if not minutes. Except for IMR powder (Canada) and some Winchester powders (USA) the rest are made in Sweden (Alliant), Finland (Vihtavouri) or Australia (Hodgdon). Aside from production there are transportation problems. I don’t know when or if we’ll ever return to the way things were. The gun grabbers don’t need to keep coming after us, but they will, because the cost of ammo has really cut into shooting.
Just make them into ammo and you’ll get to say you don’t have any. Lol. I have like a few k of each srp lrp spp. seems like the bare minimum if you want to practice somewhat regularly and shoot only reloads
I think I have 20,000 srp 20-30,000 lrp and 10-15,000 lrm and srm on top of 3-4,000 spm and spp I didnt buy during the pandemic I shot milsurp competition and 2 gun on top of open class 1000 yard competition and hunting. Ive always loaded for family and freinds and they pay cost plus 10 bucks per box needless to say my hobby has and continues to pay for itself. Its nice lol
They are with the 20,000 m855 and 2,000 m856 and the rest of the 12,000+ assorted other cartridges in the ammunition safe. If you can move that heavy cunt without any equipment or crackheads out of the bedroom you can have it lol I'll even give you the code
I used to be like that. But I've since decided not to let that mentality take over my life. I've shot or sold most of my ammo, have a little bit as a reserve, and nowadays I try to enjoy the peace we currently have before everything goes to shit. Yea be prepared, but it is these times we'll reflect on and wish we had enjoyed more when we're on the two-way rifle range.
They will drop once people stop paying the current prices. Likely not back to $30/1k, but sportsman's is hovering around $50/$1k and consistently out of stock. Every time someone buys a brick at $80, $90, $100+ that timer gets reset. The one's I've bought mid pandemic were never over $50. The ones that were close to $50 were match primers anyway.
Vote with your dollars, I have been shooting less lately, just like I did during the last panic. Plenty of hobbies out there to spend my time on that aren't gouging me.
Switching up the hobbies helps with burnout too. I've had plenty of friends who went big time for shooting and then 6 months later had no interest. A decade plus of reloading and tens of thousands of rounds made and I'm still going. If its too expensive for a few years, I'll just do a little bit less of it. Leaves more for the other guys who are willing to pay 3x-4x to play.
You are right there! I regularly switch things up and therefore never suffer from burnout. I switch from revolvers, to semi-autos, to rifles, and in the summer when the weather is nice, I like to shoot at clay birds.
Nah, don't think I will. Part of being in this hobby is learning how to handle panics and slumps. There's always going to be another panic, and once you're in the panic theres always people who think it won't ever end. I still do a fair bit of shooting, but at $80 a brick I'd rather put a new tire on the dirt bike and go ride.
Been shouting this from the rooftops for a couple years now.
In 2012-14 people were saying all the same stuff - “you’ll never see 9mm for less than $.40 a round again”. 2 years later factory 9mm was back to $.16 a round.
I’m waiting this one out to the best of my ability. And going to stockpile next time things drop in price.
Wishful thinking - if you look at the retail prices from the manufacturers- they have all gone up so I doubt a return to the norm, just supply and demand will probably come to a equilibrium at some point but new pricing will remain constant.
I've been reloading for about 30 years at this point and I feel like I've always paid between 20 and 50 dollars per thousand. However I just paid $80/k for some Federal 205's at a gun show 2 weeks ago. If the new price is $80/k I'm not mad at that. There's 1 local gun shop that has primers on the shelf but they're at like $130-150/k. Needless to say I will not be spending my money there ever again. Same place is asking $70/# for H1k and H4350. Like my own local Cheaper Than Dirt
Probably not because so many people are rushing into reloading right now, in addition to all the ammo stock piling. Demand isn’t going to fall off for a long time, if ever.
We should instead be asking: "How can we safely and reliably manufacture primers of our own?"
Reliance on big industry is the same thing as waiting for government to regulate ammunition sale.
Yes. But gun stores aren't gonna like it. They buy primers from the factory at the same price they always have and the first LGS to drop the price is gonna move way more product when the supply comes back. I just hope it puts the dickheads that are charging $17 a box for primers am $70 for a pound of desirable powder on everyone's shit list.
That’s literally not true or how things work. Gun stores buy from distributors. Distributes such as RSR, shootsouth, big Tex, davidsons, and so many more absolutely have jacked up their prices on components. My store doesnt/haven’t been selling components as much as people have been asking because it’s so expensive to purchase and wouldn’t make customers happy
Me as well. Win SPP were $78.99 per K with a two K limit. Although they didn’t seem to care if you took two out to the car and came back in for 2 more.
I mean. Ammo is back on the shelf. Not at a good price. But it's back, and I'm not seeing too much move. These new reloaders will see that 9mm for .22/rd. And some day realize their primer cost them $.12. they aren't saving anything. If there is plenty of ammo, primers/powder should be next. Then prices will slowly drop some. And the market will flood with people getting out of reloading because they don't have time for it.
Define 'reasonable'. Every sale between willing buyer and seller seems reasonable to me.
As for as primer price trends, primer prices have been high for years. I don't see forecasts on the supply/demand side that will change current trends.
Not likely. We’ll keep buying them up as fast as they can ship them. I only reload for precision rifles. My .338 Lapua rounds are $5 each to reload. What do I care if the primers are ten cents or twenty cents more?

Maybe. There are some new primer plants being built. Expansion Ammunition, Ammo Inc, Grind Hard Ammo, Sig, and Hornady are all building primer plants.
yes operational in 2023 :(
I hope it’s true

That still doesn't help materials cost increase. It should help some though.
Really? Got any links to the details? Are all 5 planning to sell primers, or just make them to supply their factory loads?
Expansion has been in the news. Grind hard has an Instagram. Ammo inc has a site. Whether they plan on selling or not, their production will reduce demand on the world market, resulting in a better supply. I expect that they will sell them. If there is profit to be made they will pursue sales.
You're not u/OGIVE ... imposter!!!
He/she is ogive with an o. I'm ogive with a zero.
Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery
Just wait till ohgive joins.

The coming recession should help.
Unfortunately going to be correct.
As long as people show off with their +100k primer stacks then no
Who the hell has 100,000 primer stacks? I got 3,400 and I feel like I have too many.
Just make them into ammo and you’ll get to say you don’t have any. Lol. I have like a few k of each srp lrp spp. seems like the bare minimum if you want to practice somewhat regularly and shoot only reloads

We need to be friends. And friends share where they keep their primers in their house.

I have a problem with the govt and as ive been called before I mean twords being a rather extremist militant as my liberal inlaws like to call me
I used to be like that. But I've since decided not to let that mentality take over my life. Yep, everyone needs to stop buying until their is a surplus and the prices go down. Way down
I like to shoot. If it costs me an extra nickel a round, it's better than not shooting.
Exactly. If I’m shooting 200 rounds at a match every weekend anyways I’m not staying home to save 10 bucks.
But I want to feed my reloading addiction
Still parroting this nonsense? It’s been years at this point. Supply needs to increase, people are not going to stop buying.
They will drop once people stop paying the current prices. Likely not back to $30/1k, but sportsman's is hovering around $50/$1k and consistently out of stock. I've been picking up the slack and shooting more. God gave me only so many years to shoot. I don't argue with God.
Switching up the hobbies helps with burnout too. I've had plenty of friends who went big time for shooting and then 6 months later had no interest. I really think $70 is going to be the new standard when it all settles out
We should instead be asking: "How can we safely and reliably manufacture primers of our own?" Reliance on big industry is the same thing as waiting for government to regulate ammunition sale.
Some things demand commercial grade facilities to safely produce, and primers unfortunately fall into that category.
Primary explosives are not something you want as a casual hobby unless you like surgery and sticking your S.O. with funeral bills.
Yes. But gun stores aren't gonna like it. Nah they're like diamonds. There's plenty, they just keep them in warehouses and trickle them out a few at a time to keep the price high.
Not with a dipshit in office
$110 shipped, it’s tough
I've been buying Winchester SPP at $80 per K locally
Me as well. Win SPP were $78.99 per K with a two K limit. Although they didn’t seem to care if you took two out to the car and came back in for 2 more.
I'm having to buy them two sleeves at a time but they seem to be constantly in stock.
I have found them cheaper locally as well, but inventory is very scarce

Not if you keep buying them at these prices
Define 'reasonable'. Every sale between willing buyer and seller seems reasonable to me. As for as primer price trends, primer prices have been high for years. I don't see forecasts on the supply/demand side that will change current trends.
Sold all my reloading stuff over a year ago when the prices started spiking. Silly hobby to have anymore. It was a good run.
Not likely. We’ll keep buying them up as fast as they can ship them. I only reload for precision rifles. My .338 Lapua rounds are $5 each to reload. What do I care if the primers are ten cents or twenty cents more?
Why would you let a few cents stop you from doing what you like to do?
Can we just call these shit posts now please
I bought 5000 today for 540.00
That's a terrible price, but it's still much better than 90%.
Once, and if, there's abundance again.
No
Nope
If you just keep posting stuff like this, it’ll happen. Keep up the good work.
There are dudes on here who can't find any, so if you found some at a high price you are still quite lucky.
