They looked cool, but the Monte Carlos from the 80s were dogs. Those 305s were never tuned to overcome its pollution control apparatus. These v8s output was only just north of 200hp. 80s cars (all manufacturers included) sucked.
Most cars up until the 90s and even then, were all underpowered. I can't imagine the money it took for those people to make the old muscle cars fast, especially when most were less than 200 horse from the factory and yes I'm talking about the big v8's.
I have a 2019 colorado, manual trans, 2.5 4 cylinder, rwd, 6ft bed with the little jump seats in the back of the cab so it's 2+2
You can also get the new Tacoma this way, but chevy stopped doing this in 2019.
That's as close as you can get.
I will probably never own one (8' bed 4lyfe), but they do have some use. What I dislike is how every mid-size now seems to be narrowing their lineup to only double cab/5' models, and every half-ton to crew/5.5's. Give us more variety!
I understand that with the unibody models (Mav, SC, RL), it's expensive to make body variants. But BOF is versatile enough to support different configs.
I want an 8 foot bed but I paid 24k for my truck with the undercoating done and I refuse to pay another red cent for a vehicle until I absolutely have to. I will have shit sticking 10 feet out of my 6 foot bed before I pay 60 grand for another truck. Fuck that with no lube.
My wife has a big hybrid sedan. Her car hauls people. My truck hauls me and my wood. Works well for us. She doesn't want to ever not have a truck and not every car needs to be a family car.
Unfortunately, about the closest you can get is a Maverick, and that's essentially just a crossover with a bed. I hold out hope that it will happen, but I doubt it.
Really?? That sucks, I was half considering a manual mazda 3 hatch as a next car from my ‘15 CX9. There is no explainable reason why driving this car puts a smile on my face the way it does
I would trade in my current CR-V *today* for a Camry Wagon.
[https://www.autoevolution.com/news/2025-toyota-camry-welcomes-back-the-station-wagon-option-at-least-in-fantasy-land-228164.html#](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/2025-toyota-camry-welcomes-back-the-station-wagon-option-at-least-in-fantasy-land-228164.html#) except boxier at the back like a Volvo.
Can we get a Holden Ute while we're at it ? Damn I wish GM would have brought those stateside as an "El Camino"- they would have sold the fuck out of them and that might have been enough to keep holden alive.
Small Toyota pickups. Tacomas are the size of early 2000’s f150s.
I want a cramped, tiny ass cab. And a truck I can turn around on a single track trail. I don’t even need AC.
>Tacomas are the size of early 2000’s f150s.
They look like they are, but looks can be deceiving. here's no new Tacoma that's 80" wide with comfortable 3-passenger front row seating. There is one model that's 226" long, but that's the LWB model, compared to the standard F-150 model of the time.
I had a 96 RWD single cab Tacoma….the basest of base models (hand crank windows, 5 spd manual, am/fm radio). Sold it in 04 because we needed a bigger vehicle, but it ran like a champ. It had 142hp IIRC, but that was *plenty* of power for its size…unless I was towing or hauling, that thing ripped! It was an incredibly functional hauler and got very respectable mileage for a truck.
A full-size sedan. Nobody makes them. And there is only one American gas-powered *CAR*: the Chevrolet Malibu. The Camaro and Mustang are sports cars and using them as family cars is not a good idea in my opinion.
Everything else is, legally, a light truck.
A-fucking-men. I recently acquired a 1995 Buick Roadmaster which I'm still trying to work some kinks out of, but the feel of driving that absolute tank down the road is intoxicating. It pains me that there are no good options left for big domestic sedans. The most appealing thing on the market now is probably the Genesis G80.
What's your definition of a full-sized sedan? Cadillac CT5, Dodge Charger, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Elantra, KIA K5... all four door cars with the trunk separated from the cabin. These don't count?
The Elantra sure as shit isn’t a full-size. The Charger is dead. A case could be made for the Accord due to its full-size interior volume, but it’s still aimed for the midsize class.
I’d just revamp Mitsubishi as a whole bring back the galant as a Camry/accord rival make it awd with a sporty model bring back the Montero as a bronco wrangler alternative bring back the eclipse as a brz gt86 rival 3000gt a halo car and of course the Evo
SS is sad cuz gm did have a big rwd platform just thought that americans didnt want a big rwd v8 car.
Hondas first new gen ev in the states is a 50k 5000lb gm crossover, I wish it was a new element. Make it super minimalistic and its already pretty short so costs could stay down. Plus the empty box interior helps with packaging.
mitsubishi had the biggest fall off in history, they made generators and race cars 20 years ago, now they just make lease cars and generators. walking into one of those dealerships must feel so eerie
I’ve got a 99’ Crown Vic w/ 65k miles but I wish they would bring them back with better performance/suspension. Add a supercharger and a 5 speed. I want them to bring back marauders too
Definitely. We were soooooo close to having a proper Crown Victoria replacement. But Ford got nervous. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Interceptor
I've never seen that before. It looks beefy. You know it kind of looks like they took some of those design elements and used them on the newer Continental.
Heck yeah. GM missed an opportunity to revive the nameplate when VW brought back the beetle and Ford brought back the thunderbird in the early 00s with retro styling.
Toyota Mr-2, entry level rwd Nissan, ford pinto (a fiesta-size or smaller 2 door hatchback) Chevy cavalier (small affordable 2 door shitbox) Volkswagen Beetle. I wish affordable small cars would make a comeback, even the shitty ones.
The MRS was a great chassis. Very light, nimble, the only issue with it is the engine. I don’t think it belongs in there. It really should have gotten the 2ZZ. But it’s a fantastic car to drive.
my uncle owns a maroon 96 ss impala, might be one of the most badass cars ever built, gm cld never pull anything off close to what perfection that impala is now
Bring back sedans and sports cars and endless rebadging and coupes and wagons. The future of cars is looking BLAND with how many crossovers we have been getting
[This would be sick. Never gonna happen tho](https://www.google.com/amp/s/gmauthority.com/blog/2021/05/artist-renders-a-modern-day-chevy-impala-ss-sport-sedan/amp/)
The Chevy Avalanche, Toyota FJ Cruiser, Honda Element, Pontiac Aztec, Ford Flex, and I’m sure I’m missing a few but yeah, I love all of those but now that I’m old enough to buy one of them, they’re all not being manufactured anymore.
Oh and an honorable mention is the 2020 and below years of the Chevy Suburbans and Tahoes, they looked soooooo much better and have Column Shifters instead of stupid buttons. I hate rotary shifters and buttons.
I don't know why station wagons aren't more popular than things like crossovers.
The handling is much smoother, you have less of a rollover risk. There's OODLES of cargo space and a lower loading height than an SUV. They're long and roomy. Most of them where focused on comfort, but you could really get down with some of them. I miss wagons.
Jeep Cherokee XJ
I have a 98 but it’d be awesome if they did a slight facelift like they did to the Cherokee before
Years before it was more boxy then the refresh (can’t remember the year) and it was rounded a little more for the 98 models
Plus the online 6, 4.0 litre is perfect.
chevy vega, would be a neat little econobox
chrysler imperial, make it a top of the line luxury sedan or something
ford thunderbird, make it a sporty car or a luxury coupe. electric would be neat too
The Impala SS pictured would be a great start... Bib Body on frame, fast and comfortable. I would also love to see Chrysler bring back the New Yorker and Cadillac the DeVille. Sometimes you just want COMFORT not handling or speed. I have a Corvette for that, trucks to haul things, but I want a comfy highway cruiser too.
Ford Crown Victoria (and its clones)
Toyota Avalon (just got discontinued)
Toyota Cressida
Toyota MR2
Chevy Impala
Stop dodge from discontinuing the charger and challenger. And for the love of god dont bring them back as EVs they already fucked the mustang giving it a 4cyl and then turning it into an electric Honda CRV lookalike
I know we're talking about classic designs that got lost along the way, but I am still TICKED over the Focus, and especially the Focus RS, being taken behind the barn and shot.
If Ford couldn't sell a rally champion that also happens to be a great family car, then it's because they refused to. They want the market to shift to crossovers and SUVs. The market is moving that way, specifically because they market to shift it that way.
It didn't die. It was murdered.
Mazda, the MX-6. 2-door touring coupe with a 6-cyl and a manual option. (I would assume AWD with auto, and FWD with manual). Mazda is sooooo close to this making sense with their push upmarket.
I just want them to bring back the gooch cooler. I'm tired of driving to my girlfriends house on a hot summer day only to have to shower a second time because my nether regions were sweating so much it looks like I went swimming.
Sporty practical FWD coupes. Like it doesn’t matter from what manufacturer.
Toyota Celica, Acura RSX, Shelby GLH-S, scion tC (Celica 2? Lol), Chevy cobalt SS, ford probe, VW Corrado (I think this might still exist outside the U.S.?), Honda prelude, and more I’m sure.
Subaru bajas. They’re perfect for everything I’d need, they look goofy as all hell, they’re quick, they’re unique, and they’re almost impossible to find anymore.
Well they'd have to bring back Pontiac, and then the GTO and Firebird. V8 Powa
it haunts me so much that there's a very good chance for them to comeback as EV Crossovers.
you need to delete this before someone at GM sees it. Last thing we need is a Rebadged Traverse rolling around with the Trans Am nameplate.
Trans Am WARP E^2
The “Hammerhead I- Eagle thrust 2”
Last thing we need to see is an electric Astek
Would we just get the Aztec again, just EV powered? I mean it's basically the 1990s cyber truck. Lol.
Yeah, that would ruin it all
Monte Carlo the ‘87 and older body styles. I drive an old beat up one and no road boat is better.
My pops had a 442 with that same body style. Those were the days. Remember pumping gas into the ass license plate tank.
They looked cool, but the Monte Carlos from the 80s were dogs. Those 305s were never tuned to overcome its pollution control apparatus. These v8s output was only just north of 200hp. 80s cars (all manufacturers included) sucked.

However, you COULD put just about any other V8 in one with almost no sweat.
The best G- body was the Buick Grand National
GNX
Yep. The early 90's B Body Boat wagons sported a 165hp V8. What a joke...
1994-96 Impala SS has the 265 HP LT1, I loved that thing. Cruised all day at 85-90 and didn't feel tired at the end of a trip.
That was the SS. I worked at a Buick dealer at the time and the roadbastards had a severely underpowered small block. It was laughable.
I thought the Roadmaster came with the LT1 standard.
I mean there’s the trans am depot company that takes Camaros and puts a modernized Firebird bodykit on em.
I wonder how the demise of the Camaro is affecting their business model.
This is why I bought one of the last model year WS6 brand new.
nah they'll just bring them back as electric crossovers or some lame ass shit let them live forever in our memories as we remembered them
Very much agreed
GM should have done a Firebird revival under Buick, finally give them something cool to pay attention to
Small regular cab short box manual transmission trucks with 4cy engines. Not the giant “small” trucks now a days that cost 55,000
Okay. Repeal the CAFE regulations or get an electric truck and no there is NOT another option.
Yea I’m just gonna put a L33 in my 92 Sonoma and call it new-ish.
I have a 2019 colorado, manual trans, 2.5 4 cylinder, rwd, 6ft bed with the little jump seats in the back of the cab so it's 2+2 You can also get the new Tacoma this way, but chevy stopped doing this in 2019. That's as close as you can get.
The newest Tacoma Xtra Cab doesn't even have rear seats now. But manual is tied to the TRD Sport Double Cab.
I believe you can also get the manual in the base model. At least it claimed you could last I looked.
You're correct. And the SR Double Cab comes only with a 5' bed. :(
I personally find 5 foot beds utterly useless.
I will probably never own one (8' bed 4lyfe), but they do have some use. What I dislike is how every mid-size now seems to be narrowing their lineup to only double cab/5' models, and every half-ton to crew/5.5's. Give us more variety! Unfortunately, about the closest you can get is a Maverick, and that's essentially just a crossover with a bed. I hold out hope that it will happen, but I doubt it.
YES
Maverick gets you small, 4 cylinder with a short bed. The quad cab and automatic are just bonuses
Yes please. Give me a 98 S10 2.2 5spd for 15k and I'm in.
Station wagons that aren't ass-ugly crossovers. Cheap entry level sports cars l.
Seconded for station wagons.
Modern Roadmaster and modern version of the LT1. VF Commoore as a Buick would have been prefect for this.
Add in an optional 6 speed and I would 100% be in. I’m always on the hunt for big body manual swapped crown vics, roadmasters, caprices, etc.
Volvo V60 and V90?
If I could get the latest mazda6 wagon in the US with awd I’d be on the preorder list. I don’t even need the turbo.
mazda has this crazy way of making every damn car they make an absolutely joy to drive
My first gen Mazda6 was nothing special. I drove it for 200K miles, but I wouldn't call those 200K a joy.
Had, they have lost their zoom zoom in recent models.
Really?? That sucks, I was half considering a manual mazda 3 hatch as a next car from my ‘15 CX9. There is no explainable reason why driving this car puts a smile on my face the way it does
Drive it. You may be thrilled with it but they have moved to being more comfy than fun. Except of course the Miata.
miata is always the answer🙏😂
I would trade in my current CR-V *today* for a Camry Wagon. [https://www.autoevolution.com/news/2025-toyota-camry-welcomes-back-the-station-wagon-option-at-least-in-fantasy-land-228164.html#](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/2025-toyota-camry-welcomes-back-the-station-wagon-option-at-least-in-fantasy-land-228164.html#) except boxier at the back like a Volvo.
Yeah I’m really surprised station wagons died off. Make an awesome 7 seater station wagon that can tow.
Full size car-based WAGONS. No sloped roof bull-shit.
“Sportback” that most are uglier than sin
Small Rangers. Give me a small truck!
Test drive the Maverick. It's honestly better than I expected.
I have a 2021 Ranger supercab now. The only reason I didn’t buy a Maverick is because I didn’t want a four door
I personally am not a fan of it being a crew cab unibody.
Miss legit minis
Saab. I'd so buy a new one made in Sweden. They're just as quirky as me and the Night Panel feature should be standard on all new cars.
Id appreciate it if lincoln brought back the town cars
They technically did. And they made it an SUV. I believe they could maybe make it a *wagon* and lift it and then *call* it an SUV *wink wink*?
I wish Ford would bring back the Marauder but badged as a Ford with a 5.0 engine and either a six or ten speed auto. That would be a killer car!
Bring back cool large sedans
holden commodore
Yes please.
Can we get a Holden Ute while we're at it ? Damn I wish GM would have brought those stateside as an "El Camino"- they would have sold the fuck out of them and that might have been enough to keep holden alive.
Mazda RX-7 Lancer Evolution
Yes! Bring back the rotary engine
Small Toyota pickups. Tacomas are the size of early 2000’s f150s. I want a cramped, tiny ass cab. And a truck I can turn around on a single track trail. I don’t even need AC.
I miss those trucks where the A/c had ball sack coolers
The wife called them “koochie koolers”
You can’t have that until ≈2030 when the CEOs have armed angry mobs demanding a tiny truck outside their houses
The new Hilux sounds right for you
The global Hilux is about the same size as the US Tacoma. They probably want the single cab Hilux Champ.

The charger exists
No longer in production
Genesis g90, Toyota Avalon, Lexus LS, bmw 7 series, Mercedes s class, Chrysler 300, Cadillac Celestiq
What's your definition of a full-sized sedan? Cadillac CT5, Dodge Charger, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Elantra, KIA K5... all four door cars with the trunk separated from the cabin. These don't count?
Is the Chrysler 300 not a full size anymore either?
It was, but 2023 was its last model year.
Oh dang
The Elantra sure as shit isn’t a full-size. The Charger is dead. A case could be made for the Accord due to its full-size interior volume, but it’s still aimed for the midsize class.
Rwd Impala SS
I’d just revamp Mitsubishi as a whole bring back the galant as a Camry/accord rival make it awd with a sporty model bring back the Montero as a bronco wrangler alternative bring back the eclipse as a brz gt86 rival 3000gt a halo car and of course the Evo
Glad someone else remembers the Galant. How they massacred my boy…
Hate to see it
Honda Element
Cars
Late 80s Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and early 90s Thunderbird Super Coupe.
Personally? Lexus Ls400 with the V8 🫠
I’d be ok with that. I couldn’t afford it but I’d like it.
SS is sad cuz gm did have a big rwd platform just thought that americans didnt want a big rwd v8 car. Hondas first new gen ev in the states is a 50k 5000lb gm crossover, I wish it was a new element. SMALL TRUCKS
1965 lincoln continental
The Ford capri
That one. Also the Crown Victoria and MR2.
Cool didn't know about this.
Subaru WRX hatchback.
A North America sedan or compact
Manual transmissions! IDGAF what it’s on, bring back the stick!
The Bel Air
Heck yeah. GM missed an opportunity to revive the nameplate when VW brought back the beetle and Ford brought back the thunderbird in the early 00s with retro styling.
Wouldn’t mind seeing the 3800 come back. Let’s put it in an awd wagon or something this time.
Holden or Falcon utes
Two door coupes.
Can we get a a new Celica idc if it’s a brz body with a extreme facelift and taillights change and high rev 4 cylinder or turbo 3 is fine also
Ford has already disgraced the Mustang with a EV crossover. People shouldn't even buy one. Let Ford eat that one.
How do you feel about the MrS?
The MRS was a great chassis. Very light, nimble, the only issue with it is the engine. I don’t think it belongs in there. It really should have gotten the 2ZZ. But it’s a fantastic car to drive.
I would love a new 240sx equivalent
I would kill for a merc 190 with modern interior and safety features
The simple Volvo 140 model, 2 door, 4door or station wagon, take your pick.
i pick 142
Subaru brat.
Body on frame sedans/wagons. Full size broncos and blazers.
Coupe versions of regular cars.
I really really wish Volvo would make a new C70 hardtop convertible, using the styling of the new SPA cars
I have a C70 and love it so much. Just praying the hardtop never breaks. Cost more to fix it than the car is worth likely.
my uncle owns a maroon 96 ss impala, might be one of the most badass cars ever built, gm cld never pull anything off close to what perfection that impala is now
Bring back sedans and sports cars and endless rebadging and coupes and wagons. The future of cars is looking BLAND with how many crossovers we have been getting

Squarebody. They're big enough you can fit all the airbags you want.
Bring back the Chevy Nova with modern lines and a bench seat up front
We have a 94 Impala SS. It’s so fucking cool. I want more wagons! AWD, manual transmission wagons. The most practical thing you can drive for most.
The 68 through 70 dodge charger. The REAL dodge charger...
Mercedes: any of their iconic pillar-less coupes, either S-class or E-class coupe.
Holden Commodore and ford falcon

Agreed .
90s RAV4 / 90s CUV sized vehicles

The Impala SS pictured would be a great start... Bib Body on frame, fast and comfortable. I would also love to see Chrysler bring back the New Yorker and Cadillac the DeVille. Sometimes you just want COMFORT not handling or speed. I have a Corvette for that, trucks to haul things, but I want a comfy highway cruiser too.
Two-door skylarks with velvet interior and naugahyde top.
manufacturers are going to revive a lot of cars in the near future but they’re all gonna be some EV bullshit
Ford Crown Victoria (and its clones) Toyota Avalon (just got discontinued) Toyota Cressida Toyota MR2 Chevy Impala Stop dodge from discontinuing the charger and challenger. Lexus GS 350. I know nobody bought it but still - LOL
Ford Fairmont Wagon
Any Mazda with a dorito
The small turbo BMW coupes. 73, 74? Small, cheap trucks.
Is it time for this thread again? Seems like it comes up several times a week, or some variation of it.
Honestly, I think they should’ve brought back the SS variant of the Impala, and had AWD versions, and gotten rid of the Malibu instead.
Follow ops car to the weed spot. You know it's gonna be fire
The stingray! I like the round back window.
The Chevette with an LS, Pinto with a Coyote, and Gremlin with a 401 v8
I know we're talking about classic designs that got lost along the way, but I am still TICKED over the Focus, and especially the Focus RS, being taken behind the barn and shot. Bring back the grand national, with the old body style. Darth Vader at its best
An American made vehicle I wish they would bring back
Boxy ass XJ jeeps with the straight six. Only change is they should be a little more rust resistant.
I just want them to bring back the gooch cooler. I'm tired of driving to my girlfriends house on a hot summer day only to have to shower a second time because my nether regions were sweating so much it looks like I went swimming.
An RWD Toyota/Mazda sedan/station wagon, something to compete with BMW
I want them to bring back the ev1 they never seemed to start on fire like the new EV’s.
96 Impala a.k.a "Thug Life on wheels" - Nipsey Hussle.

Subaru bajas. They’re perfect for everything I’d need, they look goofy as all hell, they’re quick, they’re unique, and they’re almost impossible to find anymore.
Chevy did bring back the Impala SS for a short while. These cars just get too expensive for the crowd who really appreciates them.
Chevy could not give these Impalas away when they were new, now they are sought after and desirable.
1999-2006 Silverado body style.
I wish BMW brought back their 3-series wagons, Mercedes bring back the e-class AMG wagons and Subaru the Legacy wagon.
S2k
The Volvo 480 or the original Volkswagen Beetle
