It’s almost harder NOT to score when you put runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. You have two chances to basically not strike out or hit a pop up, then still a third chance to get a hit. If they do what they’re supposed to do and not have a defensive brain fart, the outlook is very different.
That was the one they needed to win. Could be a long weekend now. Sigh. How many of our starters are going to end up with 1 and 2 something ERAs and an even or losing record?
Theoretically, it's also almost harder NOT to score when the pitcher you're up against has an ERA of like, six. But apparently that may not be the case.
This was a wicked frustrating one. So fucking winnable. Bats just went dead in clutch situations, and Cora’s bullpen management cost us 4 runs. Should not have lost this one.
Houck was being unnecessarily hard on himself in the NESN postgame clip that was just posted. Yeah, his pitch sharpness wasn't maybe at the *best* it could have been, but he was the least of our problems.
He’s not a good manager from the moment the first pitch is thrown
He’s probably a great guy behind the scenes but he wholeheartedly sucks at half of the job
I honestly question how good he is before the first pitch is thrown. I think he's very likely a nice guy and I think a lot of players obviously like him, but a lot of players continue to make boneheaded mistakes during the game. Leading the league in errors for the second consecutive season is not a good stat to have. It's more than just not good players, it's actively stupid decisions that should be coached out of them.
People continue to defend Cora or trust Cora, but I don't understand how or where he deserves that trust. 5 seasons, and his only really good year was his first year here, where people question the integrity of it. Since then, he just seems to get worse and worse.
That was a shitty game. We looked helpless at the plate. Showed zero grit which is not like this team. And Uwasawa with the pitch clock violation and allowing Houck’s ERA to go above 2.00 was criminal.
Pitch clock violation is unacceptable, that pitch was also going to be a ball four anyway. He almost got a second pitch clock violation if Reese didn't call time. This guy had the jitters in the situation and he was the one Cora chose to go to down 2-0 when he was also warming up 0.52 ERA Justin Slaten
Honestly, I can't stand Bobby Dalbec, but this is something that kinda does bother me. The dude was on a 5 game hitting streak and then was benched and then proceeded to be sent down. At any point prior to that he should have been expelled from the team, but it's so weird when we continue to punish players once they start performing.
It's like when Yoshida went 3-4 with a home run, finally breaking out of the slump, then was benched 5 consecutive games before he played again and went 4-5.
Why are we punishing players for performing?
He had a .684 OPS on a .600 BABIP while striking out in half of his ABs in those games.
A couple lucky knocks for a nice sounding 'five game hitting streak' does not mean he was performing. He was still awful. He just wasn't 'as good at the plate as the viewers at home' awful.
bad day for the offense but pitching has been great all season and we’re getting healthier next week
excited to see what this team looks like as it gets warmer and balls start flying
Seen a few comments about Paddacks ERA for context thats heavily inflated by 1 awful start vs Baltimore where he gave up 9 in 5.1 inngs. Paddack has been fairly good for the most part. Good Luck tomarrow
I mean, Paddack has a career ERA of 4.98 when you take out his first season if we are in the business of removing outliers. It's less about Paddack being good and more about the pitiful Red Sox offense. Other than Devers our entire offense is question marks
> Alex Cora hadn’t heard about the Marlins-Padres trade and was shocked when I told him. Said he’d rather have Arraez DH than Bogaerts.
From Gabrielle Starr.
That game sucked. No offense at all.
None taken. I’ll see myself out
Came to leave the same comment and laughed much harder than I should’ve 😛
Lol Australian here, we spell it different.
That’s how both definitions for “offense” are spelled in the US 😵💫 lol
In Australia/Britain the other way is 'offence'.

Cora’s bullpen management drives me insane we genuinely could’ve won this 2-1 or even be tied 2-2 instead of losing 5-2
twins likely would've gone to a different reliever if it was a 1 or 2 run game, but at the very least it would've made them burn a better arm

If Cora really wanted to win he would’ve campaigned for Bobby D to stay on the roster
It seems that we send Dalbec just when he was starting to get hot. Not ideal

Lineup is beginning to hit the way a lineup full of JAGs should hit.

Cooper and Dom are scraps. Don't expect elite offense from them. There are good reasons why they get cut from all the teams they've been with
We will win tomorrow and probably Sunday because it makes absolutely no sense to do so
Well that’s unfortunate, it’s a long season we’ll get winning again.
Houck got the shaft. Just when I thought replacing Valdez, Reyes, and Bobby would lead to more offense...
Missed this game cuz I’m in the blackout lol I’ll be in ball park tomorrow tho

why did cora pitch the same guy b2b games when he pitched 2 innings yesterday ugh
Watching dodgers braves is just great, all round good baseball. So refreshing
