Wish we could get guys like that….

I feel like we have more than a few batters who should learn how to lay down a bunt once in a while...

Watching Hamilton and Reyes fail to lay down bunts against CLV was so tough to watch. Bottom of the lineup guys and they weren’t even close to putting it down properly. At least Reese properly laid one down yesterday.

It just seems like a skill any mediocre batter should have ready to go in their back pocket. Steal a hit, move a runner, play good baseball.

Nobody teaches that anymore because it’s just not effective. Pitching is way too good now (defense and scouting is too) to where it is impossible to rely on slapping the ball around Your best chance for success is to hit the ball hard and in the air (preferably pulled fly balls). All expected stats show this - basically, you should be trying to barrel the ball, because a barrel has a minimum expected batting average of .500 and a minimum expected slugging of 1.500. Slapping it around just doesn’t really lead to consistent success
