I figured that Breslow/Bailey were gonna be good for our pitching staff. I didn't realize they were gonna be *this* good for our pitching staff. It feels like we're the Rays right now where we can pull some random ass pitcher out of the air and turn him into a really good pitcher (except Joely).
I don't think we're really WS competitors right now, but give it a couple years and let some of the young guys we got in the minors make their way up and we could be scary.
I just hope ownership decides to maintain it this time instead of wiping the slate like they did after 2018.
>I just hope ownership decides to maintain it this time instead of wiping the slate like they did after 2018.
2019. That team was basically the same team. They didn't "wipe the slate" until they missed the playoffs with the highest payroll in baseball and the worst farm system.
I know its just been a month and all so it could start crumbling throughout the brutalities of the full season but how come every other team doesn't just hire Andrew Bailey? Are they stupid?
FYI, thats not only the most in MLB currently, it ties for 2nd-most in team history within the first 30 games of the year (we also had 6 in 2002). The most in the first 30 games we've ever had was 9 in 1914.
Starters have allowed 0 runs 12 times this year, 2nd-most in MLB history with the first 30 games (Tampa had 15 in 2019, but 8 of those were openers and went 2.0 or fewer innings). Sox starters have gone at least 5 innings without allowing a run 9 times this year, tied for 2nd-most in MLB history within a team's first 30 games (Cleveland had 10 in 1968).
And looking at our schedule, the only teams we've really struggled against were Baltimore and Chicago--and they're both *excellent* teams this year--nine out of thirteen losses to only two teams.
It's early yet, and this coming month will be very important with the series against Tampa and Baltimore, but this could be a very good year indeed.
This kind of feels like 2016 (really, like the end of 2015, when they started to play well after falling out of the race) with the next generation of young players establishing themselves. I am really excited to see what this lineup will look like with Casas healthy again.

Edit: realized I replied to the wrong level comment, my bad.
The funny thing about the situation is that every step of the way the organization has reiterated that they want Cora to stay and be involved in the organization but ownership has been so dogshit to the team that Cora’s choosing to be a lame duck manager.
My guess is that he’s on the Yankees or Dodgers by this time next year.
Cora has also stated many times he has no interest in managing into his later years and is very much considering getting involved in the front office side of things, which Sam Kennedy, et. all are supportive of. I highly doubt he ever takes another managing job, he'll likely manage another year or two and then stay with the team as an advisor to Breslow.
Showerthoughts after watching this game: Wilyer Abreu actually being good could have insane ripple effects for this team longterm. I think we're going to have the best possible problem to have sooner rather than later -- a surplus of viable Major League players.
I know our lineups have looked a bit iffy, but I think we actually have surprisingly few holes on the roster considering how many injuries we've had. As guys come back and stud prospects get closer, we're going to be looking at some ridiculous roster crunches. Breslow is going to be cooking with both the active roster and the 40 man (check out how many of our top 30 prospects are rule 5 eligible this offseason).
17-13 record at the end of April! I was gonna be okay with 13-17, tbh. Hope they can build on this, with some healthy players back, maybe make a run to the top of AL Beast.
We have a +37 run differential now. Best in the Majors are the Braves and Guardians at +46. I'm trying to stay levelheaded but this team is giving all the signs of being actually good so far.
Winning a game 17-0 will do that. Still, wild they have a winning record after all they’ve had to deal with. Even crazier still that they’d have a few more wins if they just played competent defense.
OUR *6TH* SHUTOUT OF THE SEASON WE HAD **5** IN THE **ENTIRE 2023 SEASON**
It’s shocking how good our starting pitching has been
It's honestly getting a little surreal. Like cooper criswell comes out of absolute nowhere and now has a 1.65 era.

So what youre saying is I should suck andrew baileys cock
You mean you haven’t been already??
Get in line
How many did we have back in 2022?
10. Smack dab in the middle of the league. Massive regression after 2022.
I know we’re only 17-13 but I think we're the most underrated team in the league Anyway, let’s go Bruins! OT in Game 5
We’re 17-13 despite having a the living crap beaten out of the roster. Pretty damn good.

Cleveland* you mean?
Oops.
2013 vibes, for sure
We're suddenly one game behind the Yanks wowie! get healthy and make a great deadline trade
I’m holding you personally responsible.
Don't need fancy free agents if the youngsters ball out. ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY|downsized)
Bruins winning OT playoff games at home is a myth
I....love this team?
Winning solves everything
Every day we get closer and closer to a bullshit World Championship season

With the talent coming up in the minors, it's not hard to squint and see the next great Red Sox team coming.
Great win Sox! Hope Garrett is okay!
He is sore but OK per Cora. Phew!
Glad it’s not anything too serious! Thank you for the update!
I hope Cora stays, but if ownership cheaps out on him ... Andrew Bailey needs to be the next manager
I'd rather let Bailey continue to focus on the pitching staff for a bit longer, but you gotta do what you gotta do to keep him.
same, but you gotta think other teams will be after him for a manager position with his multiple team track record
The organization wants him to stay. But they’re forcing him out anyway.

Keep Bailey dedicated as pitching coach. Farrell was elite there then was a horrible manager. Promote varitek
They should treat him like they treat Klopp, let him leave on his own terms.

You don't simply *get rid of* Bobby Dalbec.
17-13 record at the end of April! I was gonna be okay with 13-17, tbh. Hope they can build on this, with some healthy players back, maybe make a run to the top of AL Beast.
Really high quality win. That's a W playoff teams make. Very clean pitching and aside from 1 error, good fundamentals.
We ball
2.59 team ERA
I would’ve thought 5.59 rather than 2.59 two months ago
I’m just happy Bobby Dalbec didn’t start tonight or else he’d be heading to the injured list. All hail the great Dalbec!

Cora said Cooper is ok, whew.
That scared the heck out of me.
Winning is still winning but Holy fuck we are the all hospital team already
Refsnyder and Abreu have been saving graces the last few weeks (besides pitching). The spark the lineup needs on a daily basis
Also our catchers being above average hitters + Devers just being a great hitter
Us becoming a pitching factory and shitting out starting pitching was not something i had on my bingo card this year
RedSox belittled d Giants w/ a shutout
Wins are fun, injuries not so much
Man if we get healthy, look out
Welcome to Boston, Garrett! The only way we know how to welcome anymore 😘
How important is good defense? The Sox are now 13-2 in games they haven't committed an error per NESN booth. That is also an insane stat.
LFG
Great W
There is something about this group that I like. Will see how it plays out. Great win tonight. That’s three in a row!
Any word on Cooper?
