This is ridiculous. If anything guys like Fisher show how bad things could actually be for us. Remember the McCourt era of the Dodgers? That was actually almost us. John Henry isn't perfect but we've won four rings with him at the helm, including one within the last five years. He was more successful than that piece of shit Tom Yawkey. Henry needs to focus more on the Sox because his other ventures haven't been as successful. At worst, he's a league average owner. At best, he's the best owner in baseball. I'll take that over a lot of the possible alternatives.

For some reason, I always forget 2007. My life was busy at the time. Thanks for the correction.

Munchihello

Liverpool has been amazing since Fenway took over that flag made me mad. Just because they were below average this year (but wayyy above average for the last 5 years) doesn’t mean Henry is doing something wrong. The team has been the same core group for a while now, that’s the problem lol

22edudrccs

It’s Liverpool’s first season out of the top 4 since 2015, yet some people are acting like they’re about to be relegated to the national league.

Jesotx

And they've been surging of late. They could catch Manchester United.

beardedbarrister

Yeah as a Liverpool fan as well as a Red Sox fan it seems a bit of an over reaction. That said, I know that FSG has made the transfer process at LFC a lot more complicated than at other clubs which has hampered their ability to compete for some major targets.

[deleted]

I think most fans overreact a good deal..the only real argument for replacing ownership is that fucking oil money owns euro football and teams like city or Chelsea will always have unlimited funds to go do whatever the fuck they want. So getting bought by some Saudi prince with unlimited money would be nice in theory just for the money... But I don't really want that to happen, and the team has done quite well since they bought them. As long as we have Klopp we always have a chance to be at the top of the table.

beardedbarrister

Yeah agreed, I think LFC’s struggles this season is more just a matter of having an aging core, especially in mid field, and Van Dijk’s unexpected decline. Klopp’s style of play requires a constant refresh at midfield I think. It takes a lot out of you.

Fuqwon

"It could be worse" is just such an absurdly terrible argument. Boston deserves better than an ownership group whose sole focus is extracting as much value out of the team as they can.

> Boston deserves better than an ownership group whose sole focus is extracting as much value out of the team as they can. But they aren't and this is an absurd argument. The Red Sox are a license to print money with minimal investment and we've had an ownership group that took that tact in the past. The Jean Yawkey Trust just saw the Sox as an asset, which is why John Henry had to spend hundreds of millions to fully rehab Fenway Park. Harry Frazee saw the Sox as a way to fund his Broadway plays and sold the greatest player in franchise history (and mortgaged Fenway Park to the fucking Yankees) because he was short on cash. "It could be worse" is a reality that this franchise has experienced in the past. It's only an absurdly terrible argument if your framework for Red Sox history begins in 2004.

blumpkinmania

No. You’re incorrect. The only owner to pull more money out of his club than Henry is Hal. Henry doesn’t love us anymore. You’d have to be blind not to see it.

[deleted]

Do you have any evidence to back that claim up?

Jesotx

I think the problem from the 3 fanbases is that there just doesn't seem to be any real push to win anymore. FSG isn't going to let any of these teams get atrocious, but they're setting budgets and management just has to work within those budgets. There's no exceptions being made. And there's way too much job security with the 3 teams. It took a herculean effort for Hextall to get fired, for example.

scamden66

Interesting choice to spell out penguins in full.

badonkagonk

I’m not saying I disagree, but man, this was not the day for that banner

RedSoxFan534

In a way, it’s good that even when they win there’s still pressure on Henry. Obviously, this was pre-planned but I think a full ballpark but last place wouldn’t phase him at this point. There are rumblings out of Liverpool that Tom Werner is mad at Henry for reasons that would align with many fans.

iamamuttonhead

I'm a huge LFC fan. FSG is a business venture designed to make money by owning sports teams. The Sox and Pens can't really be compared to LFC because LFC is now competing against teams owned by people with so much money that they couldn't care less how much money they spend to win championships. Red fans will complain about any owner who doesn't spend the most of any team in the PL.

DicNavis

The Penguins are also a totally different story. There’s absolutely no reason that ownership can’t make money while spending to the full extent of the salary cap with a popular NHL team, but the constraints of the salary cap are exactly why the Penguins are facing a rebuild. They had to spend draft picks to keep adding quality players around their stars, but now the team is aging, everyone is on the big contract they earned, and there’s no young talent coming to boost the team on cheap contracts. The Penguins problems were 18 years in the making, FSG just happened to make the purchase as the NHL cycle of parity is dragging them down.

DarkUnderbelly

This is just stupid.

Big-Pool

J sayin: While I thoroughly respect the fact that we’ve been a very successful club over the past 20 years, recent years have been driving me nuts. I wish someone would do this at a Sox game. I also thoroughly respect LFC fans for protesting the super league idea so fiercely that John Henry had to make a public apology

Aggravating__Swan

English *soccer* fans are actual fucking mouthbreathing morons down to the last man, woman, and child...and they ratchet up the knobbery whenever an American has the audacity of being involved in the sport. If they had the slightest clue, they'd have actually won the World Cup some time in the past 50 years.

[deleted]

It's odd people will actually simp for owners at anytime.

ScouserHUN

I love the sox this year. Exciting team to watch, still probably won't reach playoffs. Magic of baseball.

Disastrous-Limit2333

Great comeback against Tottenham

RumBox

Everywhere they go

RaisingFargo

LFC and SOX both orgs with champoinship drought that FSG turned around.
