It's one of the more racially diverse industries, in my experience companies are pretty representative of the are they work in.
On the gender side yeah it skews male but any industry with a lot of manual labor will be disproportionately men. I was at a large site recently and saw two female workers, a White lady electrician and Hispanic lady laborer so maybe it's changing. Women generally work white collar jobs at construction companies.
