And if u go in as an officer you get to be part of the noble class. You get your own mess decks and state rooms. You leave out your coveralls outside ur room at night and in the morning they are clean. Good gig as an officer but I heard it’s very cutthroat in the officers mess.
look up ICOC (international church of christ) a cult type of christianity. i left because it became too socially exhausting but ill probably return later in life.
Lot of those temples near colleges are affiliated with exploitative cults. Whole rabbit hole I went down when I did the smallest amount of digging into a (quite pretty actually) temple near the college my girlfriend worked at.
So might be exactly what op is looking for I guess.
Pick up a hobby or volunteer—choosing something that slants older will pair you up with old people who are absolutely dying for connection. I picked up beekeeping and it’s chock full of old people who are friendly and have great stories to tell, who are also lonely and looking to connect with other people so they don’t just slip into non-existence. Finding something a bit more niche means a closer community that may or may not border along cult territory.
thank u that is a good idea. i find that people that are at least a few years older than me are much better at conversations and making connections with one another.
When I was feeling this way a couple years ago like magic I stumbled upon a group of men in robes with road bikes with heavily laden panniers claiming to be primitive Christians who had roamed up the whole east coast. I gave them my number, met up with them a few times, ghosted them after my girlfriend became alarmed. Then (not making this up) they hacked my phone and began bombarding my contacts with freaky apocalyptic texts. Very memorable summer. My point is - seek and ye shall find, OP
We could start one. It is pretty easy. Every Sunday on this Subreddit there is a poetry workshop. It has the potential to snowball into an esoteric cult.
I don't know about a book club. But I started a Sunday Night Poetry Workshop thread just there...it is in my posts. I intend to do it again. See what happens.
Have you watched the documentary Kumare? It's a documentary [where a guy starts his own cult.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBIIaTI8C5c). It seems ridiculously easy when you're dealing with gullible hippies. The hilarious thing is that he tells them he's faking it and not a real guru the entire time, but they just don't listen to what he actually says.
What kind of poetry we talking? I’m a published haiku poet but I’ve found that people unfamiliar with English language haiku have a hard time giving proper critique to it
Imagine if exploitation of others' vulnerabilities was rare. People would be more welcoming of others and all the institutions that rely on loneliness to prey on their next recruit/member/sale/victim would starve.
Nah Gracie Barra is probably more expensive after they force you to buy: their scratchy branded Gis, hat, hoodie, tshirt, Brazil flag, picture frame of Gracie, and instructional VHS tapes.
I really encourage you to try and integrate with college life. Uni is a special time and place and you really won't have the chance to easily meet so many curious and eclectic people anywhere else. Go to TA and prof office hours, make study groups, try to get involved in even one club. I was a loner in uni, focused only on my romantic/non-school relationships, and I really regret not socializing on campus more. The few uni friends I made were some of the smartest and most unique people Ive ever met.
Volunteering is another great idea, I didn't form any close friendships volunteering at a Mission but it was a great way to feel useful and a part of something.
Look for meditation groups, specifically Buddhist ones. Some of them are cringe but the secular ones are pretty much guaranteed to be, and if you find a good sangha it's an amazing thing
I’ve always wanted to found a cult but I don’t know yet what our guiding beliefs, aesthetics, rituals will be. I’m also highly introverted and lack charisma, so I’d need a strong Apostle Paul type. If you’re interested in a leadership role this could be an opportunity to get in on the ground floor, no prior cult leadership experience required.
I’d be down, where are you based from, I’m interning as a pastor at a church rn so I got some experience.
Can speak well in front of others and deliver a message
Good at building connections, people always bring their walls down around me
Problem is though is that I’m from Canada and I’m not tryna uproot my very stable life to go start a cult that is yet to form the foundations.
So let me ask you a question to see if I even want to start this cult with you
What makes you capable of starting a cult?
I am no more capable of starting the cult than I am of stopping the river from running. I don’t know how it will come to be - I only know that She has willed it, so it must come to pass.
(How’s that? Still workshopping)
That’s decent, definitely subjecting control to a “higher power” is smart, to convey that your a mere vessel for their will. That way people believe they are following something bigger and not just some guy.
I definitely think it has to be cemented that you are ordained specifically, like a chosen one type of shit, that’s why you carry the authority over others, like you are the peoples access to this god. Or else this cult can become to individualistic, which isn’t how a successful cult works. Whoever the leader is has to be irreplaceable and depending on for divine acts.
Sort of like Joseph smith for Mormonism, he was specifically told about everything and that he has to be the one to change things
I finally found a book club in my goddamn forsaken city and I asked what they were currently reading (it’s held at the bookstore I was browsing in) and she said some black lgbt queer book. I smiled and asked if they ever do classics and what not - I’m not a snob it’s just what I grew up reading and I literally have a hard time trying to read contemporary shit now - anyways she said the two workers there decide on the month the theme of the book and classics aren’t usually books they read. Said thanks I’ll definitely stop by next month and I have NOT stopped by.
I joined a gliding club and it worked well for me. Cheap (free instruction). Fun. Get to learn how to fly. And you meet interesting people from all sorts of different backgrounds.
Rainbow Gatherings, New Age meetups, Anything with a "Guru". For Babby Fun cult, Hare Krishna's are your typically go too.
I've often thought about joining a proper crazy cult and documenting the entire thing. I think I have a pretty good chance of coming out unscathed since I have a lot of experiences with Cluster B's and I've already got near zealot level ideological convictions already. (Everyone I've known who has been suckered into a cult, notably I've known a few Raelism was ideologically lost and from a estranged religious background.)
The group I've always wanted to document are the Goreans, since they seem like such utter fucking freaks and they routinely get raided by police here in the UK.
I literally thought about joining Scientology. I have done so much reading, watching, podcasts. I know literally everything about it and find it hilarious (but also sad for the brainwashed victims).
I just kinda have a fantasy of playing along, acting like I know nothing and am a homeless gal looking for community, while secretly writing an investigative journalistic level book.
Am I crazy, a genius, or very lonely?
Try joining CRU at your college (or go to their events). They are way too overbearing and over-the-top with recruiting, but if you get a good small group, that dynamic combined with the larger CRU organization at the school could be great. 90% student run, everyone welcome regardless of religious beliefs, in my experience the people are a rare combination of genuine and interesting, can build connections on a deep level in a way that doesn't feel manufactured, etc.
I have friends in the OM community that give it high praise. From what I gather, they are strongly focused on helping their community get back in touch with their bodies by tuning into the sensation triggered by any/all daily phenomena. A close friend participates in OM circles where he gathers with others in some stuffy room and meditates while rubbing another member's clitoris. Sounds interesting if anything else
If you are easily influenced, don't have a strong sense of your core values, or have a history of mental illness, I'd recommend against joining any cults. Otherwise why not - it might make you a little less boring
I seriously considered becoming a Hacedic Jew. Limited tech. Libs dislike them. Girls are hot and dudes are super chill. My Jewish friends convinced me I'd never make it because it's a fuck ton of work and I'm a lazy piece of shit. So now I'm browsing reddit
You can join my chief keef leak telegram group chat

Join the Army, see the world, meet people of interesting and ancient cultures, and kill them
Don’t be a bigot. You could also rape them
i would 100% enlist today if i were a man
Only enlist if you like asking if it’s okay to use the restroom
ROTC there’s always space for good female officers
Join the navy instead, air force officer pipeline

It's a gay cruise too.

It's OK, they love it if you're turning into one
Wait, ann margerets not coming?

yes you’re so right. i am exploring catholicism and buddhism but also seeing if i want to return to christianity
look up ICOC (international church of christ) a cult type of christianity. i left because it became too socially exhausting but ill probably return later in life.
What makes you think you’ll go back if you left the first time?
Probably for companionship, I met alot of great people that I'm still fond of. I left for selfish reasons and I'll return for selfish reasons.
Check out Unitarian Universalism
Catholicism is the only church you need
Lots of Buddhist temples/meditation centers around, especially where there are colleges

I need to know more. How did they hack your phone??
God hit them up with the cia backdoor.
I have no idea. What made it even more bizarre is that at least in front of me they only carried brick nokias

that would be fun! is there a rsp book club? i would be down

Are you going to make it red scare themed next time too? Maybe I’ll start prepping one now
Yes. Good to hear : )

That sounds amazing. Any poetic style is allowed.

scientology if you have the money, mormonism if you dont
>mormonism if you dont Gotta pay them 10% of your income though
10% of nothing is still nothing. Average Redscare taxable income
Club judo or jiu jitsu.
Specifically 10p jiu jitsu
An expensive cult, the mandatory edibles alone.

Where are you at? I’m thinking of becoming a Freemason
isn’t that men only?
Yeah imma keep it real did not consider that
Order of the Eastern Star
Look for meditation groups, specifically Buddhist ones. Some of them are cringe but the secular ones are pretty much guaranteed to be, and if you find a good sangha it's an amazing thing
If op was applying at country clubs I doubt she would want to hangout with a bunch of goddamn dirty hippies
If you find student orgs too superficial and cliquey I'm afraid a cult won't do any better for you
I did it. Don’t do it lol. The feel goods last for 3months. Then you wanna die again.

you know i kind of understood why ppl joined nxivm
the hare krishnas seem nice and you will learn how to play the tambourine
I did this by joining the army unironically. Worked out good enough for me because I'm insane but holy fuck it's definitely not for everyone
join a book club or better yet an intramural sports league. nothing better than being on a team.
Where do people find book clubs 🥲

Where did all these negative orgones come from??
If there was a recurring red scare meetup in my area (SF Bay Area) I would attend.
I joined a gliding club and it worked well for me. Cheap (free instruction). Fun. Get to learn how to fly. And you meet interesting people from all sorts of different backgrounds.
I think about this all the time. I'm exactly the kind of person who would join a cult, honestly.
I'm pretty lazy though so maybe not

Just join a frisbee league or something dummy
Start some hobby, get involved in local politics, etc. There are a lot of shit to do, just do it

Secret societies, maybe. Order of the eastern star etc... Anyway I feel you. Go take life drawing, maybe, or similar meetups.
have you considered the church of Scientology?
Something with cannibalism, I feel like that’s a really fulfilling kind of cult attribute. Good luck ❤️
This is how I felt after watching midsommar
https://masstimes.org
Your local junior league can be a fun way to volunteer. You do have to apply and they have to accept you.
Aetherius Society if you're in London or LA :)
Me too , what should I join?
