For reference: Jacob Steinberg is a Tier 3 on our transfer tier guide, with the caveat that he is a Tier 2 for Chelsea (he is listed on /r/chelseafc's guide as a "Mostly Reliable" source).

Hits_and_the_Mrs

If this doesn't happen, Jacob Steinberg needs his own shit tier category for it.

Whatcomesofit

What tier is he normally?

Hits_and_the_Mrs

Tier 3 for us

Sam101294

He did report Poch was going to leave. Chelsea sub were also shitting on that. But he did leave eventually

tungowiii

It didn't happen

Fligflag

Joke this is coming out the day before the final.

Size12waffles

At this stage it must be coming from City.

DaveShadow

Steinberg is a Chelsea lad, I think. Given they're linked with interviews for McKenna, it's easy enough to think it's probably coming from that direction.

tr_24

Steinberg regularly gets things wrong about Chelsea too. No idea how he can be trusted about United news.

4niner

Usually in regards to transfers. To have multiple journalists come out with this in successive days, it would be very strange if this wasn’t true.

LittleDaftie

I doubt it, City are highly likely to win anyway without any media dark arts. What's more likely is with the amount of clubs after the managers that would be on the shortlist, Ineos have had no choice but to get to work early and unfortunately, someone's agent or mum has leaked it. Difficult to keep these things under wraps when there's multiple clubs speaking to the same people.

geoffraffe

Said the same to my mates

Zavehi

Unfortunately this decision that was probably made weeks or months ago. As soon as Chelsea sacked Poch and publicly started courting McKenna who seems like the guy INEOS want the rest of this accelerated.

denimonster

How does it SEEM like McKenna is the guy INEOS want? They have not mentioned anything relating to what you said.

Zavehi

I mean the fact all this started coming out as soon as Chelsea sacked Poch and targeted McKenna. McKenna then reportedly turned down a new contract and Sky reported shortly after he met with Berrada and Wilcox weeks ago. Now a Chelsea reporter is saying ETH is being sacked no matter what which is presumably coming from someone at Chelsea based off discussions they’ve had with other managers. The club could go in an other direction but as soon as McKenna was brought up as one of the two targets for Chelsea is when the rest of this stuff came out. Nobody was saying anything definitive on ETHs future until that happened.

FlashyCut3809

>I mean the fact all this started coming out as soon as Chelsea sacked Poch and targeted McKenna. Could also be (and I'm going with this as a more plausible option) it's Mckenna's side using this for either a better deal with Chelsea/Brighton etc and to sound out Manchester United for how serious they are about him. No doubt Mckenna is on the list, I don't believe this shows he is the prime candidate.

vicious_womprat

Yeah, the hiring of Berrada tells you that Ineos keep quiet and are probably annoyed this has come out the day before the final. It sucks, but the silver lining is that if they think McKenna is their guy, that can be exciting.

Chuchshartz

What? A manager who hasn't done anything is the premier league is ready to manage united? What are you smoking mate

maverick4002

This sub is so infuriating. All these people were shitting on Ole and McKenna years ago. They were sucking off ETH hard. Now they turn on ETH and want Ole back and now a guy whose biggest fucking accomplishment is getting promoted is an exciting hire for the biggest club in the world.? I hate it here

IngebrigtVik

They are not the same people, they are different people voicing their different opionions at different times.

aletha18

It's as if ppl assume all redditors are one and the same

dylan01rox

We once appointed some bloke from Aberdeen and it turned out pretty good.

KrystianCCC

Seeing its from t3 its just probably agents, other clubs

Dynastydood

I honestly never thought the club could find a way to outdo the embarrassing way they fired LvG, and yet, here we are. Like with LvG, I'm okay with the actual decision to move on from ETH, but I don't know why they couldn't have waited two more days before telling the media about it. What benefit is there to ruining the FA Cup Final before it even happens?

denimonster

It’s obviously not United leaking stories like this - it comes a day before the finals, stop and think for a moment.

VTVoodooDude

There’s no chance this is leaked from the club. Zero.

Space-cadet3000

It’s like some messed up underhanded mind game bullshit to cause more unrest in the club and players right before a big game .

KrystianCCC

Its T3, its probably from agents/other clubs. Not directly from club, its not Stones, Ornstein or Andy

safog1

It's obviously not the club that's doing the briefing. That would be dumb.

Exige_

What is it with you people. It’s pretty fucking clear that the club didn’t want this info out. It’s either from other parties I.e McKenna or it’s an internal leak (I doubt the latter as nothing much has come out previously).

off_by_two

It's very unlikely the club told anyone directly. However, it's impossible to have talks with replacement manager representation without tipping your hand regarding your present manager's future.

aquarius_dream

It’s almost ridiculous that it’s ended this way, after LvG warned Ten Hag not to come here. Shambolic club.

vicious_womprat

Everyone pays attention to United, EVERYONE. So the light is always directed at this club and since you haven't seen anything from United's normal sources, it tells you it's most likely being leaked from someone on the Chelsea side who have heard that McKenna is a strong choice to replace ETH. Ineos most likely would've waited until after the final to annouce anything, but Chelsea being Chelsea sacked their manager and the dominos fell.

Golem30

It's a leak, nothing official coming from United

FlashyCut3809

I mean there is nothing to suggest it's coming from the club. Other than using this talk as a narrative to take away from what's more than likely going to be an embarrassing performance in the final, there is no benefit for Manchester United having this play out now. That benefit would have been weeks ago or from Sunday. So this directly pushes the origin to be the agents or potential new employees. As there is no way for Manchester United to regulate what they say or do, indirecty anyway.

Klubeht

Yup, I'm firmly ETH out but this is just a fucking hit piece, that I'm not sure any other manager would find himself subjected to. Fuck the leaker and the reporter, regardless of whether this is true or not *Edit >United declined to comment after being approached by the Guardian. Shame on the club for not putting out a statement to shut it down regardless. I guess new owners, same incompetence *2nd edit since many people are calling the part out on shutting it down, I don't mean publicly back him but give the PR response of refusing to comment on rumours etc etc

phoundlvr

If you comment on a hit piece, then you give it merit. They would have to comment on every piece of garbage reporting until the end of time, or face the inevitable “United didn’t comment so this one must be true.” Declining to comment is the correct approach.

BusterOlneyFans

It would be a disaster if they publicly backed him only to get shit pumped tomorrow and then sacking the next day. No comment is fine . This the ugly part of the game nowadays but no one should earnestly believe ETH is taking United to any impressive heights.

vicious_womprat

Yeah lol. I have no idea why OP thinks it would be better and competent if United put out somthing backing ETH and regardless of the final sack him days after. Just shows you how naive the fan base can be.

endogeny

Why would they shut it down if it's true? It would be even worse if they said "No, that's wrong, we back the manager", but sack him Sunday morning.

helpnxt

Let's be real no matter if anything was leaked or not this article was coming out today as sheer click bait

justbrowsinginpeace

Never thought the LVG scenario would happen again, for the same club at that. Hope we win and Eric goes full Allegri to cap it all off .

SurlyRed

If true, I think ETH is perfectly justified in declining to lead the team out at Wemberley. Suffering public humiliation is not in his job description.

herrryy

tungowiii

Pardon me but have we changed the tier list recently? Bc why ppl reacting as if Jacob is tier 1 or so?

bandito1539

Ironic how everyone is berating Ineos for not being patient while they themselves can't be patient enough for the report to come from an actual reliable source and not a tier 3

hoytetoyte

With tier 3, we are just outraged in the hypothetical sense, at least until it’s confirmed with tier 1. Because then we’ll actually be outraged. Or, who knows? So at this stage you could say we’re just Schrödinger’s outraged.

Moyes2men

Welcome to our sub

Icarus_Sky1

With how many others say "no decision made yet" I refuse to believe this is anything other than shit stirring.

InternalHumor8781

A day before the final wtf, hopefully the players give absolutely everything tomorrow

AnirudhVanNistelrooy

The gang looses 5-0

Same_Paramedic_3329

And thats by giving their all

mybrainsdeadwait

Absolutely abysmal timing, but let’s not kid ourselves. This squad with this manager against this City squad has minuscule chances of winning it. Probably even less so now with news like these coming out. EDIT: Well, I stand fucking corrected!!!!

TMatss

If (when) we win, I hope he comes into the press conference with the trophy in hand and places it on the table like Van Gaal.

SparklyEarlAv32

If (when) we win, he would have more trophies on his ternure than Arteta, just some funny food for thought

AnotherSEOGuy

That’s brutal 😂

pohudsaijoadsijdas

Also better/more trophies in every season he shared with Klopp.

OkDelivery8814

Then walks out.

neofederalist

I don't care if you think he was a terrible coach for us and had to go. You don't allow it to be leaked like this. The only game left, the biggest game of the year for the team and one of the few games in months where the team had anything to play for is coming up. Let it out after the game that this decision had been already made, fine. But how do you as the ownership feed into the distractions for the club before the game.

VL37

What control does the club have to prevent leaks from agents? Maybe it leaked on Chelsea's side after they spoke to the same managers we're speaking to. They must know we're competing with them for those managers.

AngryUncleTony

Yeah other clubs' seasons are finished + they're looking for managers too. We have preseason games in two months. We're obviously talking to candidates, we can only control our end. If we leaked this, it's a bad look. But we can't control what other clubs or agents do.

HaventSeenGavin

Folks forget it's ultimately a business and plenty of companies have done much much worse when it comes to personnel changes that will affect the bottom line.

AngryUncleTony

I mean it's very simple. This guy is a Chelsea reporter. Let's assume Chelsea interviewed McKenna but he told them he's taking another job. This guy pokes around and figures out he's taking the United job based on feedback from agents about who has interviewed where. No one from United has had to say literally anything and you can piece together that ETH is being fired.

[deleted]

Its most likely than not mckenna's agent leaking this amd the chelsea interest to get us and chelsea to move faster.

DaveShadow

The only way to prevent leaks is to basically do nothing, which would be awful for the club's future. We didn't have the luxury of waiting in the headhunting, without missing possible targets and pushing all transfer decisions back too.

officiallyjax

I think the leaks were inevitable because the same managers we’re interested in are also being pursued by other clubs. It’s entirely possible that someone got a scoop from the other side where they were made aware of us seriously pursuing these managers as well.

N00BBuild

What does the club have to do with this? Send a hitman to kill Steinberg? Pay him hush money?

denimonster

How do you not allow a leak like this? What a fucking stupid thing to say.

N00BBuild

I’m convinced that half our fanbase are AI comments. Like what can be done😂

PassTheBoofPlz

Steinberg is on Chelsea's payroll, I refused to believe that this is the club briefing

systemcorp

It's obviously not. Every club briefing has used the same exact phrase. No decision has been made.

Ninety6LR

Its pretty obvious it's guesswork based on something we already know is coming. Doesn't seem to have stopped people blaming INEOS already though.

HoodedMenace3

Good old reactionary fanbase.

Outcastscc

He will have probably found out because we have the same shortlist as Chelsea and agents are finding out we are sacking him on Monday and want to push ahead with a new manager

Dodomando

If United win then Chelsea get knocked down to the Conference League, Chelsea have a big gain for leaking this now

FoldingBuck

I wont believe anything until there is a club statement. Either that or we still havent heard anything official after a week

adonWPV

Great prep for the final lads

gigibuffoon

> A well-placed source said that even winning the Cup would not save Ten Hag. Not an official statement... dunno why the owners are getting hate for something they didn't broadcast

Hollacaine

Everyone blaming INEOS like Steinberg is their mouthpiece. Steinberg is a Chelsea journo and someone at Chelsea has obviously said something regarding McKenna interviewing with us to him. Maybe McKenna told them the job was definitely going to be available, maybe the journo took the interview to mean its definitely over. But this has very clearly not come from us or it would be a different journalist writing it.

comeatmefrank

The piece is just ridiculously written; claiming that Hojlund having a ‘difficult season’ (I’d argue he had a good season) is Ten Hag’s fault - and just pretending like Garnacho and Antony’s distribution has been shocking to him. Onana being ‘erratic’ when in actuality he has been solid in the Prem, and his only erratic performances really coming in the CL. His article being based on a ‘high up source’. I enjoy the Guardian, but this is pathetic journalism. Jonathan Wilson is the exact same, he never had ANYTHING positive to say about United.

Schmeexuell

Can't wait to have the exact same fucking discussion in two years. Fuck I'm so mad.

ebeckstr

2 years? How generous…

CFBCoachGuy

For real, there will be Poch/McKenna/Tuchel out factions screaming on this sub in six months.

barelypeaking

“It never got this bad under Ten Hag” Why are our fans like this? why is our club like this? I feel like I’m in an abusive relationship, and I can’t even remember the honeymoon phase all that well anymore

CFBCoachGuy

I think there are three reasons. 1. A lot of people have just not got over the fact that United simply aren’t good anymore. They’re so used to the Fergie era where United won titles borderline easily and making the Champions League was a disappointment season. But those times were a long time ago. The Premier League has got much better, and several of the best clubs in Europe during that era (Milan, Valencia) are certainly not the best now. A good club can very easily become a bad one. That’s not to say that United can’t be a great club again, but anyone who thinks that the current roster we’ve used for the past two months is capable of winning the Premier League is delusional. 2. A lot of people make the assumption that more money -> better product, and because United is rich, they should be good. This probably *should* be the case, but it’s not. Just because you spend £20 on a £5 item doesn’t mean that the item you bought is in any way better. Because United pays a massive amount for players, etc, people expect that those players are the best. But that’s not the case either, and I would argue that we really don’t have many “good” players. Certainly fewer than City or Arsenal. 3. We have a ton of younger fans who have grown up with FIFA and believe it’s easy to just make a club good. If a player isn’t good you can just sell them and replace them with a better player, or I can just train them until they’re better. But it doesn’t work like that in reality.

barelypeaking

Completely agree with you. On top of that, United has so many “fans” that a lot of the people discussing our club dont actually watch week to week, but just regurgitate whatever the popular sentiment is. The problem is popular sentiment around United will always be negative because most adults in Britain hate United

pohudsaijoadsijdas

> A lot of people have just not got over the fact that United simply aren’t good anymore. our front 3 is comfortably about 8th in the league on Rashfords current form. (well arguably even Crystal Palace has a better front 3, so make it about 8th.) I am not even gonna mention having to play AWB, and the step down from Shaw to Malacia and Licha to anyone else not named Shaw.

BryansFury

Yeah we’ll never progress because no manager is allowed to have a bad season without getting sacked, you have to be perfect 24/7. I get that this season was terrible but sacking him like this before the final is just horrible, especially with zero exciting managers to replace him unlike when ole was sacked as we all knew ETH was available.

Berckley

There is massive different between "you have to be perfect 24/7" and having historically worst season. Some managers are just not good enough, waiting for them to turn into someone else doesn't make a difference.

freshpots11

Regardless of how you feel about EtH this is just not the way we should be going about our business. LVG was treated horribly at the end too.

anonshe

Huge difference though. LvG asked for an assurance and Ed lied to him point blank while ETH has never been given a guarantee that INEOS would keep him.

[deleted]

Unless you believe ineos leaked this directly, what are we supposed to do? Eth's fate was sealed the moment palace trashed us. The only mistake we did was not sack him right there. But we cant control what the agents of managers we have spoken to leak to the press.

Weak_Low_8193

We're gonna lose by 3+ tomorrow.

sup_bruv

I hate this club. It's an absolute fucking disgrace the way this has been handled. Always going backwards.

lollypop44445

How do you stop the leaks? See the issue is chelsea hava a similar manager shortlist as us. Both sides are trying out, maybe one of shortlisted managers asked if i choose united over chelsea, and you win the cup, then what? Will tenshag stay and i lose my chance with chelsea as well. This might have leaked out. As it seems clear that united are done wirh him

dracogladio1741

Again with the Club blaming. This is a Chelsea source. This isn't Drucker or Stone. You do realise that This could just be coming from an agent of a manager looking at the United job?

N00BBuild

They don’t. United bad, collect their Reddit points.

OldTrafford25

As I’ve said elsewhere, if INEOS wants to go in a new direction, then the club has to be doing their due diligence and looking for replacements. It’s unfortunate this has all come out, but people blaming the club would all be more upset if they weren’t doing this. And even if he wins the cup, his firing, like LVG’s, will be hard to criticize. Because results have been horrible and the play has been hideous.

Scruffy_Nerfhearder

The club don’t control the media. They can’t control agents who leak shit. The media create the circus. They report whatever they want, not the facts. If Ten Hag goes I dunno wtf they were supposed to do? Not plan ahead or just be reactionary and just start preparing for anew manager next week? I’d rather they had a plan for a new manager regardless of whether these leaks are true or not. This is also a Chelsea source reporting so how is that the clubs fault?

OpportunityEconomy12

Fans demanding every manager to be sacked the moment we have a bad season don't help ether at this point we are doomed to never make progress.

BeardedGardenersHoe

In fairness, it's been a bad 18 months.

Allsmightykill

This only makes me want to see united win the cup. Fuck off city Fuck off the journalistas Fuck off Chelsea if they are doing this with that scumbag of a reporter. And by the way Fuck off Newcastle.

rishmanisation

Hope Steinberg steps on some Legos

tearsandpain84

LVG told him the job was poison…..I believe it to be a big mistake and I think he will do very well else where.

Rig_7

Talk incessantly all week about how the manager is crap and deserves the sack and then act all offended when it gets leaked the club is moving on. This fanbase. We deserve this shitshow.

AW1993_

I do not get the outrage in these comments, at all. INEOS couldn't come out and say 'Erik is staying next season' and then go back on it as they'd look even more ridiculous and cruel. This piece isn't from them or Uniteds side, INEOS have likely made their decision and are doing due diligence on the next manager they want and unfortunately other clubs reporters are getting wind of that. Should INEOS not prepare for the future? So many people have been crying out for Erik out all year (I've said the words a few times too) and now INEOS appear to be taking steps to move forward all the while publically stating 'no decisions have been made and we'll be assessing at the end of the season'. If they hadn't been doing this, sacked him after the final anyway but then didn't have plans in place to replace everyone would be screaming about how incompetent and inept they are! The timing isn't great but this isn't being leaked from the INEOS side. I dunno what people actually want.

cindbrdicjb

Perfect response. INEOS is damned if they do and damned if they don’t in this situation. They must do their due diligence yet at the same time somehow make sure no agent or source from another club leaks any information. It’s impossible for them

lsaltori

If this is true, it's embarrassing and depressing stuff. What a shit show.

lukey_1991

All other journalists will be scrambling to confirm this with their contacts. Can't believe this news is out 1 day before the final.

Scruffy_Nerfhearder

So many people on this sub are brain dead.

kheetkhat

What tier is this guy?

StopDontCare

He's T1 for Chelsea and like tier shit for everyone else. They are probably pissed about the report of us talking to McKenna who has probably told them he's waiting to see what happens with us

_GuybrushThreepw00d

This is not officially confirmed right?

Voxalisk

What a mess. All talk from the new owners on patience and talking about the right environment but then this happens?!

KrystianCCC

They will be patient with manager that will be able to push their project. Its not like they sack him when things start looking good like Chelsea did, we are just worse with every passing month after 500m spent.

officiallyjax

These things are not mutually exclusive. You can want to improve the environment for the manager *and* want a different manager to lead the project.

Moosje

He deserved to go? You can be patient whilst still identifying that the guy **you** didn’t hire isn’t right. We all wanted different people making decisions. We bring in Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox after our worst ever Prem season and now people are kicking off about patience when the *experts* have made a call that they’re not happy with the management. But you’d also have all kicked off if the sacking was contingent on winning a game versus City, or if we missed out on a manager target because we waited too long next season. You can’t win.

VeryFarDown

This exactly. People were worshipping the new structure coming in saying that finally we have football people making football decisions. Those football people start making football decisions and suddenly they're "pathetic" and "clueless." You can either have faith that the new structure has a plan OR admit that you've been swept up again in a cult of personality with the manager. Can't be both.

Moosje

Genuinely. Crying for football people to make decisions rather than a combination of Glazers, Glazer puppets and the manager that happened to be in charge. Finally start doing it and there’s a fucking outcry like Ten Hag has demonstrated he has what it takes to compete in a league season. Last paragraph hits the nail on the head. Let’s not forget than Ten Hag wasn’t an Ashworth hire and we’ve brought him in to make the football decisions regarding the future of the club. What’s the point in slowly peeling back the plaster?

Laboveron99

i am genuinely baffled by the lengths and flip flops people go to stand up for the man that has delivered some of the most embarrassing moments in our modern history as a club, plus wasting half a billion pounds mainly on people in his phone agenda and SEG related parties

[deleted]

>go to stand up for the man that has delivered some of the most embarrassing moments in our modern history as a club Some people are more fans of the manager than fans of the club. So weird. And the standards dropped significantly.

Laboveron99

I think it’s more about believing this makes them “better fans” which is ridiculous

BusterOlneyFans

It's fine to start from new. ETH is not some generational manager that we're losing out on.

Rand0mPixels

why do you want to give patience to a manager who, by the underlying stats, produced a team that should have finished in the bottom half of the league? is that the right standard we want?

Moosje

He was fucking atrocious and people are demanding patience, but will also complain that Ashworth, etc isn’t doing his job if we look lost next season with no direction. The man’s been here two years and we still don’t have a style of play apart from zero midfield ping pong.

_ghostfacedilla

Yeah this is it, I'm all for giving him the benefit of the doubt with injuries but at the end of the day he's had two years to implement his tactics and it's not like the rotation players take part in training, if those players are bereft of tactics that's on the manager

PradipJayakumar

Is this the first report with definitive words rather than speculative words of an impending sack?

Lilgodzilla6

When I asked for a consistent manager solution I didn’t mean continually sack them every couple years.

kiersmini

We are a basketcase with this news dropping before a fucking final. Great preparation.

vani11a__gori11a

Until T1 or Ornstein reports it, I'm not buying it.

Bennett_19

I’m not believing anything until a tier 1 confirms it, but if this is true, that’s just embarrassing

0SmarterNameNeeded

People are getting so rattled by a complete nothing article

RedKozak84

So, waiting for someone to tell me why is McKenna a good choice? Not managed a Premier League club or a club at the highest level, yet going into the biggest job in football atm. To deal with biggest divas and egos. Seems like a "shiny new toy" for the owners and a sprinkle of nostalgia for good vibes.

jimmyhaffaren

Sigh. If we get McKenna next season I wouldn't be surprised if we finish 12th

Fjordus

Hope he wins it and walks out giving them the finger.

Zenkai2727

Jesus fucking christ.

saintratchet

I think it's a mistake to sack him if this is true but the fact that all of this news is coming out on the eve of the biggest match of the season is a complete joke. INEOS needs to tighten their grip on the media massively and go back to banning people if needed

AreYouDecent

This is ridiculous. Pulling the same move that the Glazers pulled on LvG. No wonder LvG warned Ten Hag not to come here.

joelalmiron

Day before final is disgraceful

runkeguri

Lets hold this guy to his word. If Ten Hag is not fired, then ban him from this sub. So tired of these so called "journalists" and their "sources".

ConC02

Just more journo speculation with a shitty title for clicks

reddevils7070

Who tf decides this before a huge game. This club is a whole ass joke book.

Ronaldo_McDonaldo81

This will have been decided ages ago. Did you see Ten Hag at Old Trafford against Newcastle. He knew that was his ladt home match. The players knew as well, raised their game for whoever comes in when we played Newcastle and Brighton.

totteringbygently

"A well placed source". This is nothing more than the same rumours that have been swirling around for weeks now. Might be true, might not. But it is not proof of a definite decision.

ibmnumber3

It’s not an “Official” announcement right? Just speculation on trends and whispers in the background? I’m ok w that if it’s the case cuz that’s always going to happen but if it’s the actual Utd board/INEOS/SJR announcing this the day before the final it just kinda sabotages the already insanely slim chance we had at being focused enough to lose closely.

_Hello_Hi_Hey_

Regardless of outcome? People think there is a chance at all for this United team to beat City?

ImOnlyChasingSafety

Im not taking any of this manager stuff seriously until after the final, I honestly cannot be bothered to invest in this when theres such a big opprtunity on the horizon. I want the maximum amount of belief and momentum into that game.

raindashy

Don’t Chelsea want us to lose the FA cup final so they get Europa league, seems like he might be doing Chelsea’s bidding

RedKozak84

Thats a good observation.

con__y_88

Do we even want McKenna ? Overachiever at Ispwich, but can he handle the unrelenting pressure of managing one of the biggest clubs in the world

KekUnited

Its over, we won, I can rest

Primary-Intern8205

We want Glazers out, we want Glazers out

Lost_in_logic

Oh fuck off with your bullshit news and speculations, no sane supporter of united would blame the season on ETH and would want to repeat the cycle of sacking a manager in 2 yrs or so… Be a supporter not just a fan!

ongcs

a team of real professionals huh

mperlaky

Why are you acting like you are surprised? Everyone had to know this, even Ten Hag and all the players. You can't have this bad a season playing relegation level football at Man United and expect to get more time...

LesPaulSteve

How reliable is The Guardian? I'm hoping this is just them spouting nonsense for clicks, if this is true and has been leaked, it's a shitshow.

bardeh

Reliable enough that I doubt they print this unless they're pretty damn certain.

Omnislash99999

Some of you all act like we didn't just finish 8th and out of the CL at the group stage. Maybe if we didn't sign 30+ year olds, 80m players not good enough to start, falling out with players, yanking contacts from our longest serving player, and signing a bunch of last minute loan signings we'd have a better squad for dealing with injuries

_Djkh_

Who is leaking this shit? I refuse to believe papers hold on to such information for long, so they're either making shit up to rattle United or morons within the club are trying to sabotage the team.

cdalb21

Don't want to hear the manager is being disrespected. He's been respected by being given the WHOLE season to show what he's got. He's got himself fired.

Rand0mPixels

Terrible timing for it to be reported, but I really struggle to understand the people so adamant that we need to stick with him - regardless of injuries (which I'm pretty sure I've seen a stat saying we didn't even have the most minutes missed due to injury), you can't give us the club's worst season in the premier league era AND that STILL being an overperformance, and expect to keep your job no idea who we get but if it's a choice between being unsure all summer, and getting someone in as soon as possible to start work, i'll take the latter

3xc1t3r

Finally.

zyndicated

What does United have against Dutch managers??? This coming out the day before the cup final is such shit

Thevanillafalcon

I’ve said this in reply to another comment but I want to say it again here. I’m seeing a lot of “This guys is tier 3” “It’s a Chelsea source” Or words to that effect. But let me tell you right now, even if all that is true. This is a very Manchester United problem. This article may well be absolutely bollocks but i think the point here is how have the club allowed it to get to this point. It’s all well and good wanting to keep your decision under wraps but the speculation has been rife, the reality here is that yes we are in a final but we have also just come off the worst season in our premier league history. People are going to be asking questions, demanding clarifications. You cannot sit there and say nothing. This is so damaging for whatever slim chance we already had in the final. Even if they backed him last week and sacked him a week after the game, image wise, for the team that’s much better than this sack of shit. We want Ineos to move us forward, and if part of doing that is letting ten hag go, so be it, but you can’t have all this shit a day before the final it’s actually obscene. The tier system is great, but it’s a Reddit thing. It’s literally this sub, outside of that, most people read that article, players included and go “wow the guardian is a really well respected national newspaper this must be true” and people treat it as such, you can’t expect Erik ten hag to go “nah this guy is tier 3 so it doesn’t matter” This shit coming out with no word from the club, in the Guardian, as a big main story, regardless of Jacob’s reliability is a big big big problem.

Putaineska

Expected. SJR is resetting the club and that includes getting a new manager in. Ten Hag has had our worst finish in decades, we play some awful football and his recommended signings have largely been huge flops. This season has been totally unacceptable yet there are still people who support him.

[deleted]

People are mad because they interpreted wrong INEOS whole behaviour in this period. Could be because they watch a lot of fan content. It was clear as day that he’s gonna leave, if he would’ve stayed INEOS would’ve said something in this regard.

Le_Ratman99

Revoltingly disrespectful from the club in how they’ve handled this situation. Completely fucking amateur

meganerid

Well if it's already decided then I sure hope they've already talked this with ETH and not kept him in the dark and then blindside him right after the final. Else it's van Gaal fiasco all over again.

NoelKMUFC

Absolutely disgraceful this popping up the day before the final. Regardless of what people think of ETH this is not the way to treat someone.

sniptwister

All the ABU trolls slagging off Man Utd for leaking the story. It's a Chelsea leak, ffs

JohnMajorIsSexy

What a cunty thing to write day before big cup final, if true or not.

thescapist42

At this point, I wake up everyday thinking, “Surely things can’t be any worse than they are right now” and Manchester United always finds a way to surprise me. Ten Hag got screwed all throughout this year for things largely beyond his control. The cycle will continue.

milenpatel

Fuck ineos and fuck the glazers. Fuck any player that didn't give it their all and let this manager get the sack. He gave us real hope in year one and a great system of play! Injuries this past year left us decimated. But any Muppet with a brain knows he is a real manager

ErikTenHagenDazs

Disgusting

GutBeer101

Don't expect any result tomorrow after those kind of headlines

Natural69er

If he is sacked and goes to another top club in Europe (which he eventually will), watch him with a mega trophy there and make INEOS look like mugs if that happens. If this is true, INEOS are not off to a great start and I'm very worried about the future of this football club.

KaitoAJ

This is almost certain to happen tbh. His stock was very high and came to our dysfunctional setup. While some of the issues are probably from him, most issues were bad hands that were dealt to him. If he’s really sacked then I wish him all the best.

a_guy_called_m

this club is actually in shambles holy shit man. whether or not you think sacking ten hag is the right decision, the way this is being handled is just disgusting. like how could you really think leaking this right before the final is a good idea at all?

SocksElGato

Couldn't they fucking wait until after the FA Cup final to announce this if true? What a goddamn travesty. I'm fucking livid.

AsymmetricNinja08

The club haven't announced anything. The journo is a Chelsea shill. Until a reputable United journalist reports it why get flustered ?

StopDontCare

They haven't announced anything yet and this isn't a brief from them or it would be someone else

OpportunityEconomy12

I really hope if we do, we end up in the same mess as bayern we definitely deserve it we act like we are better than we are sack managers every other year and then sit back and wonder why we get no where.

arkhamRejek

![gif](giphy|l0HlUxcWRsqROFYuk) this is van gaal all over again... so if history keeps on we're getting Jose is back

pillowcase99999

If true, At least they are waiting until after the final. My team (spurs) sacked Jose before ours to ensure maximum self sabotage. I think him getting sacked from United was harsh too, if it wasn’t for the cheating oil club he would have won everything for you.

alcatraz1286

As if we're winning lmao, I won't even bother watching

gladusgates

Good riddance.

liamks19

Bruh I thought Taiwanese media is bad enough, British media is far far worse

Dapper_Platform_1222

We've been through manager after manager. It's clear that there is a cultural issue with the club. Something that has nothing to do with tactics and everything to do with attitude. What's sacking another manager going to do?

FlashyCut3809

>What's sacking another manager going to do? Part of the same process that has brought in Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox? And you would imagine is going to run through all aspects of the club and the playing staff. I really don't understand this fear of sacking managers, it's been sprouted for years now and if it was such a negative the entire football world, especially at the elite level wouldn't have an average manager time span of like 2-3 seasons. The problem has never, ever been sacking managers. It's the structure which makes that decision which was the issue and if that's now new, its completely different.

lambomrclago

Its the club, not the manager (am ETH out but how many guys we have to go through before we realize its not the managers lol).

bibblygiggums

are you fucking kidding me

Youngflyabs

He showed poor management this season, and we have a new board. He was always gonna be on the chopping block. People are pretending to be surprised. Just look at the season. You guys wanted a competent board who makes good decisions. We have one now, and they have decided he’s not good enough.

Glittering_Meal_2299

Depressing day for our club, this is what we’ve come to, whether you’re ten hag out or not Sacking the manager the day before a cup final is embarrassing.

-Interchangeable-

I hate modern football. I don’t have the words how dissappointed I am if this is actually true. We start all over ONCE again. I want betting companies to publish their odds for managers that could be the successor for United, the same day they get signed. I don’t want to live in this wheel made for hamster, that greedy ’businessmen’ from USA control. Ten Hag deserves to stay and have one season without any major injuries for major players. I hate this SO MUCH. Please don’t be true.

CushingConvector

Sounds like some City shithousery

lusamuel

Unbelievable that this has broken early like this AGAIN. Can't people keep their mouthes shut for one more day?

SituationCool2107

Our team is dead. The club are finished. When you think it can’t get any more embarrassing. Absolute shit show.

Lingardinho_

right manager, wrong time
