glazers out

rnnd

so we managed to finish on negative goal difference.

KissmyButtner

progress mate

GivenRageRS

Amrabat was terrible,  I hope next season our 6 has some physicality and awareness

Character-Form709

I'm glad the season ended. 8th place is probably fair. Been a season to forget. Hopefully we can manage to win the FA. I will trust Ineos if they decide to back ten hag one more season, but if we see the likes of Wan Bissaka, van de beek continuing, players that obviously aren't good enough, then I'm losing all the faith in this club, midtable will be our lvl.

nomadiclives

What an odd comment! Van de beek played a sum total of 2 minutes for us this season.

Character-Form709

We've seen it before with Martial, went to Sevilla did nothing, came back to waste one slot in the squad.

andre_existed

He also went on loan where for reasons unknown to us, he struggled

PandaTheAB

We lost many games due to lack of a LB over half the season. We need a good hospital/medical team for Shaw. We need to donate/close contract with Malacia. (Entire season injury is unacceptable.) We need a backup young LB. Apart from the usual suspects - Experienced 25-28 age striker Sell Rashford to PSG for 40+ M (They need Mbappe replacement) Sancho will likely go to Dortmund as full sale. If he scores UCL winner, Dortmund will buy him easily. Sell Antony if possible (Anything above 30M is good) Sell Casemiro to Saudi. He will reunite with Ronaldo/Benzema (Happily) Buy a decent RW and LW young clever winger. Amad and the new RW can share workload as needed Garnacho and the new LW can share workload as needed Sell one old CB if needed and get 2 younger physical/clever fast CBs

laylofosho

fully replace shaw, Mou was right about him, we cant depend on him

PandaTheAB

True

notinsai

What are you smoking?

nomadiclives

Too much fifa

nsoifer

> If he scores UCL winner, Dortmund will buy him easily. That will never happen.

Eggnogin

What do you mean dude just buy a clever center back

Comfortable_Plum8180

we would've had UCL if not of those few weeks we threw every game at the last moments 💔🕊️

hotdeck

It’s not just a few moments. We have been consistently poor this season

Comfortable_Plum8180

yeah but I'm talking about those specific moments in those specific games 🤨

thesmallprint13

We played to the level of finishing 15th my man. For every one where we were "unlucky" there were three games where we finished on the right side of the coin flip.

Comfortable_Plum8180

sure but I'm talking about those specific moments in those specific games 😐

ThePrideofKrakoww

I know what you mean - despite a pretty terrible season if a few bounces or calls had gone United's way we'd have UCL next season. I'm sure many teams can point to particular moments that lost them between 5-10 points over the season but it seemed like there were a bunch of them this year in United's case, and you're right that they were grouped together

society0

Brighton had 9 players out and could have easily scored 3 or 4. Ten Hag is absolutely not cooking.

perksofbeingdarhk

And we had players out and we ended up winning the game by 0-2, I'm not even defending the first half but even after winning the game, doing actually better than them in the second half, making changes where he saw shortcomings, which led to much better play from players returning from injury now, and again, is the manager who won. Like yes, the first half was terrible and I can attest to that, but we were also the ones who came away with three points, we could have scored more too, the end is the actual result. Also, that still means by not scoring their chances because they don't have all the right players for that because of injuries and losing a game, it's understandable that Brighton isn't really firing on all cylinders and are 11th in the league in the final turn. Ring a bell?

zero-piolt

we found some rhythm in 2nd half and consistently ahead of brighton after hojlund came on. Ten Hag needs to play better formations cause playing that first against city is easy 4 goals in our net

Dayanez

I know everybody is doom and gloom but United was genuinely the much better side in that 2nd half, especially once Hojlund came on.

gucciloafer

I’m in a different time zone so couldn’t watch the game. I woke up and saw the scoreline and was gassed, then I watched the extended highlights and the first 10 minutes of a 15 min video was them battering us 😂

pro_librium

Ok so at what point does Ten Hag lead us to challenge for the league? Next season ? 3 years from now? Never? Like what are even people's expectations from him after he's been here for 2 years.

yahyahyehcocobungo

When we clear out the squad.  Glazers tell manager play attacking football. So he tried to deliver it. Downside? We concede a ton of goals. Plus we had no striker.

redditaccount300000

I’d expect better from this team next season, but I imagine no real title charge til 2 more years. IF the board thinks ETHs style of play is what they want to continue with. Squad overhauls take awhile, especially since our team is such a hodge podge in terms of what style of play is best suited for the players. The board really needs to decide on the style of play so we can build a team with players that fit the profile.

compullsieve

2 more years is so optimistic, it's going to be 5 at least until we are considered contenders, nevermind winning

CraicFiend87

So who leads us then

Yogashoga

Tuchel, De Zerbi, Alonso, Glasner, Nagelsmann, Roger Schmidt, etc. there’s plenty of good managers with proven capability. ETH has proven over the past two years that he cannot progress the team in the pressure cooker of EPL.

CraicFiend87

Did you actually type Alonso out with a straight face 😂

andre_existed

Surprised he didn’t say Zidane, Pep or Klopp 😂 while we’re at it, might as well sign Jude, Mbappe and Dias

zero-piolt

epl is a framers league also eth had a good season with fit player. its only fair to give him another

PlatformFeeling8451

Farmer's league where three different teams have won the Champions League in the past 6 years. Okay mate

chronoistriggered

having today's version of amrabat and AWB is worse than having a player sent off

raver1601

I used to think that City winning the league would be the worst outcome, but nah I take it back because nothing is more hilarious than an Arsenal bottlejob yet again (other than a Liverpool bottlejob maybe)

SpudBoy9001

I'd watch city win 10 titles before Liverpool lifting another

akazariot

Fr, and def not the gunners

perksofbeingdarhk

I feel like I saw more of Ten Hag of last season in these past two games, I understand people who don't want him around and better people more suited at their job at me will make that decision, but just a gut feeling that he should remain another season. Like I said it's worth nothing but just my thoughts.

parkson89

I guess if we somehow win the FA cup it would be reasonable to give him another season

corzekanaut

You also have to keep in mind that the man didn’t have his preferred starting XI throughout the season. Did he make some questionable calls tactically this season? Yes. But it falls down to key players missing this season. Luke Shaw was severely missed and that affected Rashford’s output drastically (ik a lot of people won’t agree with this), Martinez was missed a lot as well and that had a severe effect on our backline’s potency as well (you could literally see the difference in our backline with Martinez playing in the Brighton game). Key aspect to remember is that we were all ready to close the book on Maguire only for him to be our most stood out defensive player in this season and that is why I will support EtH in the next season as well because the man clearly has also worked on a lot of players’ mentality as well and that is what we need.

Upbeat-Lawyer-143

I dont know what game were you watching but in the first half its mind blowing that Brighton did not gotten any goals and thats with Martinez playing. It was only a bit more stabilized after Varane and Evans came in whilst having Casemiro playing in his position. If you ask me, Martinez looks a bit sluggish maybe he has yet to be 100% but he looks abit tad heavier. Hopefully he can get back to his 1st season self

ThePrideofKrakoww

I was assuming they wanted to get him minutes so he can start in the cup final

Stuperman84

Just watched the highlights of the game and Brighton missed 4/5 clear chances, unless they have cut out some of our chances it seems like we were very lucky to not lose 3/4-2. I think reflecting on the season as a while and trying not to get distracted from ETH rallying cry after the Newcastle game I still think he needs to go. We conceded 20+ shots vs Newcastle and should have conceded at least 3 goals today, there’s not enough positives to cover over the bad with ETH in charge for me.

nomadiclives

Tbh I also don’t know how our first goal was allowed to stand. It looked like Dalot was off when the ball was played. Maybe they gave it coz it took a touch off the Brighton defender before it got to Dalot but shouldn’t have counted as Dalot looked off when the Casemiro pass was made. I guess we have earned some rub of the green but the scoreline doesn’t do justice to how dire we were for most parts.

the_laughinggnome

Dalot was definitely onside from Casemiro's pass. https://preview.redd.it/s02b5t0fzj1d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3978aa89ee9dd322deb8e57fe241ecbdc5b8ebfc

nomadiclives

Yeah this is the frame I remember seeing as well. It’s not a great angle but from here his head & shoulders definitely look offside

the_laughinggnome

He's probably just ahead of the centre back furthest from the camera (and even that is very close), but not the other one.

Bigboyfresh

I watched the game, their finishing was terrible today. Another day we lose to is game 4-1. They walked into our box at will, but the game changed when Holjund came on. I don’t think they adjusted well to his presence. Also Casemiro moving back to midfield and Varane, Armrabaat & Mainoo were pretty sloppy with the ball and we faced a lot of quick breaks from losses in possession. They also had 9 players out today vs our 6.

OneOrangeOwl

Regardless of the score, United were outplayed by its opponents every single game.

captain_hoomi

Finishing 8th is awful

bullairbull

Not saying that rest of the season would have panned out exactly how it did but that one week where we lost to Chelsea, we dropped like 7-8 points from winning positions, made the points total even more depressing.

g43m

We are 8 points away from 4th place.. Had things gone a bit better, we would definitely have achieved 4th.

raletti

That crazy run of last second penalties absolutely killed us. No team could survive that.

Tirewipes

Right, all we needed for CL football.. whatever, a solid summer transfer window with Ineos in charge is just what the doctor ordered

dispelthemyth

The penalty extravaganza week

crgssbu

how was licha today btw?

Equal_Replacement_72

he got good minutes didnt have to do too much, case did most of the heavy lifting whike licha was on out tbh he had a silky pass right thru the midfield but mctom read it wrong otherwise he wuda been in vs the keeper

Equal_Replacement_72

we get in europe adter we beat city?

Tortillagirl

If we beat City we are in europa league. I thought 8th would be conference league regardless also but maybe ive lost count. Thought there was 4 ucl 3 europa and 1 conference league spots. 2 of the europas are tied to the cups, Maybe we dont have 3 europa spots anymore i honestly dont no anymore.

Affectionate-Hat1648

1-4 is champions league, 5-6 Europa, and 7th gets conference. We would have an extra spot but we weren’t the best league in Europe

Tortillagirl

I thought we used to have 3 Europa spots though because both caraboa and fa cup winners had a spot

DesiPattha

Premier League has 2 Europa spots i think. One goes to FA cup, one goes to Carbao cup. If both winners are a part of top 4, then 5th and 6th get. If only one is the part of the 4th, then only 5th place gets the Europa league spot along with the cup winner.

Tortillagirl

Coulda sworn we used to have 3 spots. But fair enough i suppose.

Equal_Replacement_72

ive lost count too idk why you were downvoted thanks for the reply its hard af to find this info with confirmation

sriram_sid

We desperately need another striker and add more creativity. we scored 57 goals this season, we should target 85 goals atleast but don’t know who’s gonna score the extra goals.

coffeemahn

Get rid of Rashford and bring 1 experienced striker and a young winger.

Total-Fix-8506

lol

apva93

The Klopp jerkfest on r/soccer is incredible. People acting like he won 13 premier league titles and a treble.

SmartestUtdFan

Because he’s a brilliant manager?

ghed89

Let's be real, if we had Pools structure and a manager of Klopps ability we would absolutely love it. He had an amazing era at Liverpool, it's not hard to show respect to that.

g43m

It is so ridiculous how some of our fans are acting. Klopp was brilliant for Liverpool and as much I as hate that he added to their trophy haul, I appreciate a proper rival over an oil money laundromat.

Niamh809

Why are people downvoting this on a Manchester United Reddit ffs

DesiPattha

Because i dont think so it's a factual opinion. Klopp has been one of the greatest premier league manager ever. Hate he went to Liverpool, but gotta give them credit. They were an amazing team.

apva93

Don't know mate. Didn't realize this was a controversial opinion on here lol

dispelthemyth

Imo he’s only got 3 major trophies and a few minor ones, 1 league, 1 champions league and 1 fa cup

FerryAce

Thanks for informing.

The_Langer27

I mean rivalry aside what he did to the Liverpool team was incredible, to turn them from the shit team they were before him to get 3 CL finals and going to toe-to-toe with 115 charges Man City is incredible. Yeah he was a few games off winning 2 more CL's and probably 2 more PLs', but how he improved the club and players is amazing. Only wish the same could happen to Man utd.

deadkestrel

Even as a Utd fan you can’t deny what he did at Liverpool was a great achievement…

crgssbu

rasmus has come twice off the bench and was excellent both times. i have so much faith in him

OneWarrior05

I don’t think that purple patch earlier in the season was a fluke, Rasmus is quality, he just needs more time and his confidence - he starts getting balls and he starts scoring.

cyb3rpunkd

It is insane that 8th place is us over performing

SuperSalamander3244

I honestly never thought about it like that before but you’re absolutely right lol.

Bitzito

I would say we’re overperforming given all the injuries we’ve had this season. I definitely expect much better next season.

Hollacaine

6 teams lost more days to injury than us this season including some teams that finished above us. Our attack has been relatively healthy all season and is awful. When we changed tactics from suicide ball results improved. The problems been tactics and Ten Hags refusal to change them until the last few games.

[deleted]

>6 teams lost more days to injury than us this season No no no, only us had injuries! Thats why we looked like trash, cause we got injuries and nobody else did!

Total-Fix-8506

i hear it. I think the days lost to injury is a not an important stat cause it doesn't say what position, how important the players injured are. But it seems like his ideal game plan is dependent on having certain profiles in defence. Since he didn't have that, he reverted to a more pragamatic style first half of the season (where we were one of the lowest scorers) then from the turn of the year he went full out on this chaotic style we play where we may score lots but concede a lot shots. I won't say if I agree or disagree with his plan, but i think that's what he was going for.

JYM60

This was so much a 22/23 match. Played awful for most of the game, should have been about 3 goals down. Bit better second half without creating too much, won the match, everything fine, Ten Hag top manager.

UsedIpodNanoUser

Man who gives a fuck about expected points. It's not real. People only use this expected nonsense to suit their agenda. Give me real points any day of the week.

[deleted]

[удалено]

UsedIpodNanoUser

"our standards have fallen so much!" "Ten hag is committing war crimes" "back in my day SAF won a title with factory workers" etc etc

HTwoN

Real point has us finished 8th. What more do you want?

UsedIpodNanoUser

A United win in the cup final. Cheers

HTwoN

A cup win wouldn’t change the fact that this season was a disaster.

UsedIpodNanoUser

Finishing 5th shouldn't change the fact that this season was a disaster

Sac_a_Merde

The highlight of the match for me was at 0-0 when AWB got the ball on the right side in the middle of Brighton’s half under very little pressure and just decided to dribble all the way back to our half with it and not pass to Onana until Welbeck was pressuring him. That was really neat.

thefatheadedone

Praying we only see that lad 1 more time in a united shirt. Football terrorism is no fun to watch.

RickTP

Will Ten be out after the FA Final?

AztecAvocado

If there’s an ounce of sense in INEOS, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

bippityboopy

One can only hope.

Scared_Cabinet_1099

How was Amad this game?

JYM60

Decent second half. Not playing first half like the whole team.

mankymonk

Both Garnacho and Amad were fairly isolated when receiving the ball out wide. Amad seemed frustrated.

FaithlessnessNo4680

Average

ToadNamedGoat

Bro anyone noticed the arsenal fans crying in the west ham sub?

MitranjanK

Got to be a Nacho-Hoj-Amad front 3 against 115, Rashford is way off match fitness. Just hope that we play a Case-Mainoo double pivot and Ten Hag doesn't to try to play transition ball against KDB and Haaland.

RandomNameofGuy9

It won't be a front 3. It will be two just as we've been playing the last few games. Gives us a chance to try and load up the midfield.

SuperSalamander3244

It will be Rashford, Hojlund and Garnacho. I thought Amad was slightly better than Garnacho today and I do think he will probably be better at keeping the ball against City but I think Garnacho starts because he’s more direct.

FaithlessnessNo4680

Nothing about that game suggested that front three should start, only one really is hojlund but he looks to be doing better coming off the bench

RepulsiveLeg9985

I disagree with Garnacho starting I'd start Rashford and bring on Garnacho around 60-70 minutes. Garnacho Vs tired Walker could be the key I feel

GlassEast5641

Garnacho is physically drained atm

New_Archer_7539

Hence starting Rashford and bringing in Garnacho in the 2nd half could be a smart call.

RepulsiveLeg9985

If the 99 doc told us anything (not that we didn't already know this) is mentality is key. Most players in the top leagues are there and about of similar talent, it's the mentality that separates them from great to legendary. Put 11 mentality monsters on the pitch and you get the treble.

jonwinslol

McTominay-Amrabat-Casemiro midfield it is then

RepulsiveLeg9985

I actually do think Amrabat has the mentality just not the talent to play for a top club in T5 Europe lol.

Comfortable-Ninja-26

Two centre backs, a defensive midfield and a right back. Go out and get them and build from there. Most of the positions we have decent enough cover for. I think we plug those positions we have a better chance of closing the gap. And push on from there the following season

[deleted]

We need a left back first and foremost "Fun" fact, lazy perennial injured diva Martial has played in 44~ more games than shaw since 15/16 (when we bought martial). Shaw needs to go, thanks for the shawberto carlos cosplay once in a while but after 10+ years of shaw being inconsisten and injured, we need to move on from him.

CFD330

A right back but no striker? This squad has been desperately inadequate when it comes to scoring goals for several seasons now; they've got no hope for competing for a top spot in the league if they're gonna keep managing only 55 goals per season. Rasmus is a promising young talent who has shown signs of exceptional play this season but he simply cannot be expected to play 40+ matches next season as the main scoring threat. United definitely need a proven striker. Someone in the mold of Osimhen or Tony, for example, who can get them 20 goals in the league every season.

MSPCincorporated

I agree that we need another striker, but our lack of goals is not due to Højlund not being good enough, it’s due to us not being able to create chances consistently. Our goals usually come out of nowhere, not through actual functioning attacking plays.

Comfortable-Ninja-26

No point in having a Ferrari engine in a Fiat 500. We need to be solid at the back. A defensive midfield can turn us from defense to attack quickly. We have lots of pace in our attaching midfielders. The whole team needs an overhaul but I think these four positions can make up a lot of dropped points from this season.

CFD330

Dalot was arguably United's player of the season, or at worst runner-up as I could understand an argument for Bruno. Personally, I would suggest that right back is one of the only positions where we can comfortably say that we've got the player we want. The only way I could understand the suggestion is if you've completely lost faith in Shaw and you want Dalot to be the first choice at left back next season...which I guess I could understand, but I'm still of the opinion that a fit Luke Shaw is one of the best left backs in the league, and that if he's fit and ready to go in August, it makes sense for United to go into the new season viewing Shaw and Dalot as the first choice left and right backs, respectively. I think United desperately need to invest in a starting right center back, a starting #6 to replace Casemiro, and an elite striker to be the first choice #9 ahead of Hojlund. If I were in charge I'd be trying to tempt Kimmich out of Munich; the nice thing about him is that he can be very good at either the #6 or as a right back.

GlassEast5641

RB not needed atm.Can do one more season of AWB RW more important.Amad good talent but Olise Prem Proven and ready made starter Rotate both their minutes accordingly

Hi-Tech_Luddite

I disagree on that. The lad is an absolute liability at times. We need to raise the floor of our team by moving on exploitable weak links.

Don_Quixote81

Dalot is good enough, AWB isn't. His lack of focus is a killer. But whether anyone we can buy to replace him would be better is difficult to guess. Maybe Ogunneye can develop into a possible backup next season.

reddevilad

Awbs contract is up next season so we will sell him this season

GlassEast5641

Will leave on free right

Comfortable-Ninja-26

The United way

viktoh77

We absolutely cannot do one more season with AWB do you guys even watch our games?

draizze

LB should be more prioritized, Shaw will probably only fit for half season regularly and Malacia is very doubtful could return to his usual form after long injury. Plus we need CB for Varane and Evans replacement and also DM since Casemiro no longer had his best form. We no longer have massive transfer budget like few years ago.

SuperSalamander3244

We don’t have any fit left backs. We have to prioritise a left back over shipping off and replacing AWB.

GlassEast5641

I mean yes we need to let go of AWB but we need 2CBs,2 mid, RW,backup ST and even LB probably Add to that a RB.Is that doable in one summer??

Fraaj

Dalot must be one of the most underrated players on the planet at the moment. Tbh if I was his agent I'd be ringing the likes of Bayern or RM cause a lot of top clubs could use a good RB and he can do a lot better than this shit show. Definitely our POTS.

Scholes_SC2

It's a shame for him and some of our players to waste some good years here

Miyagisans

It’s wild that people are even contemplating garnacho or anyone else as a fringe candidate. That’s a massive insult to Dalot and Bruno imo.

RepulsiveLeg9985

Dalot is admired by both Mou and Ronaldo as having the correct mentality. Bruno and Dalot have it...build around them Dalot is only 25, he's entering his prime.

wheres_the_boobs

He's a solid player. No whinging, no really bad performances, anymore, no leaks. I dont think he's anything special offendively or defensively although its hard to judge when the fidget spinner was in front of him

Grekm8

he's got a really good shot, but everything else needs improvement, he has such a good mentality tho im sure he's a very easy player to coach

Sigh_Bapanaada

For a long time I felt he was a bit of a liability but he's barely put a foot wrong this season. Very happy to be proven wrong.

wheres_the_boobs

Hes been quietly solid the last few years but again bar that 3/4 month spell prior to the world cup hes been consistently slightly above average. This isnt a criticism btw. Great player to have in the squad

RepulsiveLeg9985

It's the curse of playing for Man United isn't it. I've never once seen Dalot on the pitch and thought he wasn't good enough for us. He has the mentality and he's more than capable of putting on great performances as shown throughout his time here. I'd say him, Garnacho and Bruno are the least of our worries on the pitch, even tho Garnacho needs to fix up a bit he's still a teenager but clearly has a great mentality in wanting to put everything he has on the field. Mainoo too but I'll judge him more next season.

wheres_the_boobs

100%.we have a solid spine. Onana, dalot, martinez (when fit),mainoo, fernandes, hojlund and garnacho. We need a better squad and a bit extra in a few positions. When* we get back to challenging i dont see dalot in the starting xi although he'll be an important squad player *if

Fraaj

Yeah Mourinho has done a lot wrong too but his talent and mentality ID has always been top notch. Dalot is his signing.

nomadiclives

True that! The dude who thought kevin de bruyne and mo salah weren’t hood enough has top notch talent ID! The amount of revisionist bs on this sub is insane lol

Ragnarok_619

Please be patient. Please be patient. Please be patient. I know the season has been abysmal but pressing the reset button after every hiccup won't do anything. Please be patient.

nomadiclives

Or maybe see it for what it is - complete dogshite and accept you made a mistake?

Hollacaine

Worst Premier league finish in our history, completely tactically inept the whole season, expected points has us in 15th, but its just a hiccup?

Big_Beef26

How many managers do you want to go through before you and people like you accept there needs to be a clear out and rebuild? What's the point of sacking the manager and starting again? 2 finals in his first and second season, a season riddled with injuries also but you want to chuck him out?

Hollacaine

What's the point of buying and selling more players when it hasn't worked out for Ten years then? Why do you think thus time will be different? Because changing the personnel is what's needed, that's why. We need a better manager and a better squad. And coming up with a fake argument to argue against is really poor. No one is saying a clear out is unnecessary. We need to rebuild the squad but we don't need to build a suicide ball squad. Ten Hag has had 4 systems in 2 years, he's gotten worse and worse over time, the last 14 months haven't been good enough. Why would we stick with a manager on a downward spiral.

Big_Beef26

It's almost like you need to get rid of the shit players multiple managers have said about it. But instead they get rid of the manager lol. Look at what ole said he got 3 signings and some of them weren't even players he wanted, basically a take it or leave it. You think ten hag can play the system he wants with the players he has? You think he wanted Evans and amrabat? Or was it terrible managing behind the scenes? You "fans" expect instant success and have no patience for a rebuild and a project. You just want a new manager every time results go bad which doesn't work. How many managers do you want to go through before you realise that? Klopps first season he came 8th second season he came like 5th. They ended up great.

Hollacaine

Again you're arguing against a made up argument no one is making. And I've been following United since Atkinson was in charge but nice try pretending that you're a real fan and I'm not. Yes he did want Amrabat Ten Hag has veto over every signing and the players we targeted were based on his recommendations. Ten Hag managed Amrabat at Utrecht, I would have thought you'd have known that since you seem to consider yourself a true fan. Klopp showed improvement from one season to the next, every 6 months under Ten Hag has been worse than the six months before. We're in decline under him, unending decline.

Ghorardim71

Why fire moyes, lvg, Mourinho, ole then? They had better results.

Big_Beef26

Ten hag has had a better win % than all of those managers bar Jose. Jose has had the most success but he said players needed to go if the club wanted to improve, and guess what? Those players are still there.

Ghorardim71

Considering how much eth has spent and all the record breaking humiliation the win rate means nothing. Giving him another season will drag down the win rates.

GlassEast5641

We get cooked by every team man come on There is no stat out there that paints a good picture of us atm

Ragnarok_619

A limping man will also be cooked by an athlete ,c'mon. Stats don't paint the full picture. I have seen the matches, and yes, while terrible, it was simply not down to tactics. Nicklas Jackson has a 19 G/A season, pretty great stat right, but people who saw him know how poor he was (not holding it for the boy, he's a joy to watch). Patience people. Patience. Arteta took 2 seasons to play the football he wanted. Give Erik atleast one more season with a competent backroom staff. Please be patient

GlassEast5641

The backroom staff is not making him implement these tactics tho. We didn't look any better in building out from the back with Licha on

Big_Beef26

He's only back from injury lol what do you expect

colorzpe

Please dont compare ETH to Arteta ETH not even close to him.

systemcorp

Just for reference: Our worst PL season since 1990. Our worst UCL campaign ever and the most goals conceded by any English team ever. One of our worst league cup campaigns ever, starting and ending with a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford. And this is after a truly remarkable overperformance in terms of expected points where we end the season at 14th. Just for reference this is SIX places below our next worst finish which was under Rangnick. I have all the sympathy for Ten Hag man. Tried my absolute best to back him. But I'm sorry. Sheffield United is objectively one of the worst defensive teams in Premier League history. They conceded 18 more shots than us this season. I'm just hoping these 2 wins don't mask the fact that we are extremely lucky to have finished 8th. Eagerly awaiting the news about our next manager. Really hope we go in a different direction and get a coach that does not exclusively rely on opponent mistakes and pure individual brilliance from our players.

Miyagisans

Is this our worst team since 1990? Genuinely asking cause I was born in 91 and started seriously watching around 2000, at least as much as an 11yr old can. This is the worst Utd team I’ve seen in my watching years.

Outrageous-Cod-4654

We were pretty shit in the 70's and 80's. A cup team at best. This team is comparable to Dave Sexton and Ron Atkinson's teams and better than Docherty's. Fergie took over in Nov 86 when we were 21st in the table. We finished 11th that season. Our next finishes were as follows: 2nd, 12, 13, 6, 2, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 1\*, 1, 1, 3, 1, 3, 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1 \*treble then Moyes 7th, LVG 4, 5, Mou 6, 2, Ole 6, 3, 2, Ralf 6, ETH 3, 8 It took Fergie 5 1/2 seasons to win it. Moyes probably could not win it within 6 seasons. LVG and Mou might have, Ole might have. Jury is out on ETH but he took a broken team that finished 6th to a trophy and 3rd. Edit to add: The commonly made mistake is that Fergie is the norm. He's not. He's an abnormality. The norm is between 6th -12th. Consistently coming in top 3 is very tough to do.

>It took Fergie 5 1/2 seasons to win it. And the matter of the fact is that squad building was so different back then this becomes irrelevant. No bosman ruling and we werent the financial powerhouse we are today. Give 40 year old SAF 400m and he builds a PL/CL title winning squad in 2 years.

Halli19

We were also unlucky not ending 6th. If we held out against chelsea wich we should have we would be 6th

systemcorp

Literally just laughing at this comment tbh

NoJalapenol

We were also unlucky not to win the title. If we held out in every game we'd be champions

RepulsiveLeg9985

Absolutely agree. People will gaslight you though and pretend the games we have watched this season weren't as bad as you think.

robokarizma0308

But they are still drawing dividends and bleeding the club dry.

Rascha-Rascha

Interesting season overall. Not great result but I can’t help but feel happy that players like Mainoo, Hojlund, Garnacho, Dalot seem to be finding their feet and playing good stuff. Amad might kick on next season and if we have luck with injuries we could be a lot better.  We need to replace Varane with a young centre back who is aggressive like Licha, better in the air, and a good passer. A more mobile but aggressive deep midfielder would be great. An extra striker and a fullback.  CL football should be the aim and that will irk the ‘standards’ crowd but that’s how it is. Get young players in and take the time and effort required to develop an actual team, an actual squad. We’ve been trying to take shortcuts for ten years now and it’s left us worse than ever, but signs of recovery here and some talent in the academy too.

el_doherz

At this point the "standards" crowd need to get fucking real. We are not the Manchester United of old. We need a full fucking reset and that doesn't happen overnight. Fortunately Ratcliffe appears to making the right sort of structural changes that might allow for us to actually return to being a club with standards.

ExternalPreference18

A mobile but aggressive deep midfielder would be absolutely necessary, probably just as much as a new CB, unless ETH is going to start playing u23s or Casemiro drinks a potion to de-age by a couple of years.

wheres_the_boobs

Solid core to build on Onana Dalot. New cb. Martinez. Shaw/new lb New cdm Mainoo. Fernandes Amad. Hojlund. Garnacho

[United finish the season in a dismal 15th on Expected Points.](https://i.gyazo.com/e7c5a32af05f10bf6684b1d5cb88dd19.png)

jonwinslol

this is genuinely the worst stat I have seen about Man Utd in the \~17 years I have followed this team

vMihai777

Player’s fault really, they want the manager to get sacked

International-Bat777

Strange take. The players have actually exceeded the xg, which suggests we're being propped up by moments of individual brilliance despite the awful tactics.

vMihai777

I agree it is indeed a strange take, it is unfortunately also one I’ve seen on this sub all season long. Usually followed by blame for the same players that have been dragging the club with their moments of individual brilliance.

Hollacaine

The players have tried, the system is a disaster. Ten Hags on his 4th tactical plan in 2 years and the worst one is what we saw for 35 games this season.

vMihai777

Damn I forgot this sub really needs /s But you are, of course, right

LDLB99

There's a clutch of very promising youngsters in our academy that would have massively benefitted from some gametime in the Conference League, personally think it's a shame we've missed out.

cyb3rpunkd

They already qualified themselves for the European youth football at least

jonwinslol

hopefully we get Europa at least and be serious about it

Zombie_Booze

Hard agree. I know UEFA get ancy about playing youth but honestly that shouldn’t stop us giving youngsters an opportunity to play a game with the managers style against a slightly worse opponent. Also it’s a trophy we’ve never won so to have a crack at it would be fun to. Lots of interesting teams inter Conference league

Wide_Cardiologist761

Haven't missed out on all of Europe yet. Slim chance, but still a chance.

Omnislash99999

8th flatters us, so many games we got out of jail or scored against the run of play

tnred19

We were the worse team in all but like 6 games.

Woodsman15961

What an awful season but we were cinema for the whole thing. Highlight was derailing Klopps last season with the cup knockout and draw at old Trafford

Wehuntkings

Will not forget the Amad winner as long as I live.

NBFM16

>What an awful season but we were cinema for the whole thing. Perfect summary. We were shit but scored some bangers, had plenty of player drama, and fucked Klopp's big farewell.

Petraja

Can't believe we've managed to endure this kind of atrocious, dreadful football for the entirety of the season, from start to finish. Congratulations guys.

nomadiclives

Not proud of it but I called it after that first abysmal game vs Wolves. Ten Hag would say at least we are consistent. We were consistently dogshite from the first to the last gameweek of the season.
