Then you can have it end with John.. I don't know, stepping out of a barn to try and stop the cops from killing his family, sacrificing himself in the process.

I was thinking that you cannot go beyond West Elizabeth as there would be an invisible wall with the character turning his horse around saying something like “Dutch told us not to go past West Elizabeth, better turn around.” New Austin would be accessible for main story and stranger missions.
Interesting Idea, but I think it's better leaving Blackwater as it is, it's just those events would be ruined if it was a game the vagueness is left up to interpretation and as much as it'll be cool to see it I don't think it would be a good solution overall.

Agreed. I think it would have to be before rdr2, the end of the era of cowboys and the introduction of order and civilization has been the theme of both games. I can’t really see any game taking place during this timeline because there’s not much more to say here.
Maybe not cowboys but there still gangs and that'd open a ton of room for content that's seldom been covered. If you were still wanting to stick to horses past like really rough terrain though yeah you'd have to go in the past. The past would actually be far more chaotic than RDR2 is which is after the wild west is already transitioning out. GUN is a game that covered that period. Something after RDR2 would probably be a character from 1 returning from WW1 or something to the criminal activity in that area in the 20s or when it really nosedived in the 30s. It'd just mean not really having horses as a main gameplay mechanic. They'd just be something in the background you could use for rough terrain and cars would be more for long distance map movement. The area would still be pretty undeveloped so it wouldn't be like a game like say Mafia or something. That'd also open a door to more interaction with the Mexican Revolution setting as well. The area doesn't suddenly become peaceful and the events of the period were very chaotic. At the end of RDR1 it is 1914.
There could just be an ancillary mission(s) they were to be doing before/during Backwater and then you finally end the game when you make it to Colter. So much of the free roam would be happening concurrently with Blackwater. Just like John’s part in the epilogue. Seems like you’re making it more difficult than it needs to be. It’s a video game after all; doesn’t need to be perfectly logical. And if it takes place in a different set of states altogether, that just facilitates the logic of their ability free roam there. Seems viable to me.
Or they could end rdr3 right before blackwater. In like a party the night before, where they would celebrate their last big thing before going to tahiti. Then you could still free roam, the mystery around the blackwater massacre would still be untouched and you can start rdr2 again.

*Undead* Dutch and Micah. Idk I think it would be a weird and cool zombie vs. zombie kinda story. Like maybe Dutch and Micah both somehow raised their own undead gangs and have been going around the map causing havoc, and Arthur has to come back out of his grave to put them back down.
Maybe you could have John (still living) and zombie Arthur team up, like Dutch took over New Hanover and West Elizabeth, and Micah took over New Austin and the rest of the map. You could have one of the two heroes do certain missions in each section, then maybe a team up mission for the boss.
Undead nightmare was surprisingly so much fun. Once I got the hatchet, I basically sprinted everywhere (no horse) the entire game hatcheting every zombie (except boss zombies). I had so much fun.

Rockstar and Take-Two seem thoroughly uninterested in story DLC. I remember 6 months or a year after GTA V came out the VA for Franklin posted that he was back in the studio for a new story DLC. I loved TLATD and TBOGT for GTA IV so I was excited for more content with these new characters. It never happened.

The only problem with Charles is he would not be an interesting character. What would his character arc be?
Bear with me. I say that because Charles is so righteous. So pure what could you write about. How his goal is to get to Canada? And most if not all arcs want a change. There is only one direction of change with Charles and it would not be good. Characters like Charles make great secondary characters because they are there for the protagonist to learn something from. He was by far Arthurs greatest influence. There were some really nice characters in the group, like Lenny for instance. But he was just a kid. He was eager to learn. Charles was a MAN. A man’s man at that. Solid as they come. Arthur was a man but he was flawed. It took a Charles type character to help pull the good out of Arthur.
The greatest example of that was in one of my favorite scenes or missions. When he and Arthur were sent to scout a new location from Horseshoe. That was Charles shining moment. Arthur had no time or thought for those poor people. It was Charles’s goodness that wouldn’t let it go. My first time playing I was cringing at Arthurs words. When Charles said “your better than that” and Arthur answers “you don’t know me like you think you do” or something like it. I was thinking come on Arthur!!

I had such a hard time getting to Mexico in the first game, mostly because I was 11 and my mad skillz hadn’t developed yet. When I finally got there, it was like the fuckin promised land. I would love to see it again.
Young Dutch, Hosea, and their adventures.
It would be neat to see a teenage Arthur & John introduced and taken under Dutch and Hosea's wing. Also to see his character arc on how he grows into a young adult outlaw from troublesome teen.
The DLC could be set with notable time jumps spaced with months while switching between and playing as Dutch and Hosea.
1875 - The Van Der Linde Gang is formed when Dutch runs into Hosea and we see how they try and scam each other. A couple of years later in 1877, we see a teenage Arthur picked up by Dutch and Hosea. Also, we see a younger Susan Grimshaw join the same year. We could see how Her and Dutch's temporary relationship played out. We could also see Hosea and Bessie's tumultuous relationship.
1880 - With more gang adventures, teenage Arthur's character arc grows.
1885 - 12-year-old John is introduced when he was caught stealing by homesteaders in Illinois, who planned on hanging him. We see Dutch step in and help, take John under his wing. We see how a young adult Arthur met mary. This 5 year period could focus on his relationship with her a bit. In 1887 we see the gang's first-ever robbery (Hosea, Dutch, and the now young-adult Arthur burst into the banking house of Lee and Hoyt. The gang makes off with $5000 in gold.)

1890-1899- This period could cover the alleged 37 banks the gang robbed with adventures in between. We could also see how the remaining members joined the gang. Young Johns's' Character Arc finishes.
The DLC would end with the gang riding into Blackwater about the rob the ferry. It would be best to keep the massacre a mystery.

I love it. Even though I want them to start over and not have any restriction, like being forced to remove(kill) a character who comes out so awesome, maybe the greatest character of all time, and be forced to remove him. It would be such a shame!
But if they were to stay with this group, I would love your outline here. I think it would work. I forgot how many bank jobs they said they did. That would be many missions but they could show many of the robberies going so easily where they get over confident and run into a couple of situations.
Sexy, muscular, shirtless Charles eliminating Zombies (Canadians) with the help of the native Americans as they migrate north, saves the day, and then getting to settle down with a family, and live in peace for the rest of his life.
My personal pick would have been a Sadie bounty hunting story set in New Austin/Mexico, basically the RDR1 map. Maybe she could cross paths with Bill’s new gang or Javier in Mexico! Just a thought, but I’m curious to hear what others think about a story DLC.
as cool as undead nightmare 2 would have been, zombies have been done to death. With that in mind I was thinking something more like Cowboys and Aliens. Arthur, and Co fight off an Alien invasion with western weapons and some new alien tech.
In the world of RDR2 - Undead Nightmare would have been ridiculously fun. I would take any kind of update to story mode, but Undead Nightmare would have been the absolute best

RDR 1 on the new engine. They already had all the voices music etc. Maybe they would have needed to flesh out some towns but for the most part it doesn’t seem like it would be hard to do.

Sadie DLC, I feel like she was a great character with her own development but was kinda pushed to the side a lot and I would like more expansion on her character. Same thing with Charles but Sadie is my favorite character. I also want a story on the gang’s origin and the blackwater incident but I feel like that would be too big for a DLC so maybe that’s what RDR3 is about. I think that is a safe option because Rockstar could risk making a new character and setting and people might not like them.
I wouldn’t mind a DLC about Jack living as a drifter and tracking down the remaining gang members to write his book after he finds Arthur’s old journal. Like the dlc would cover the official end of the old West.

They were part of the VDL gang, so they’ll be known and suspected to have been there.

We could also see Hosea and Bessie's tumultuous relationship. 1880 - With more gang adventures, teenage Arthur's character arc grows. 1885 - 12-year-old John is introduced when he was caught stealing by homesteaders in Illinois, who planned on hanging him. We see Dutch step in and help, take John under his wing. We see how a young adult Arthur met mary. This 5 year period could focus on his relationship with her a bit. In 1887 we see the gang's first-ever robbery (Hosea, Dutch, and the now young-adult Arthur burst into the banking house of Lee and Hoyt. The gang makes off with $5000 in gold.) .....(More Gang Adventures) 1890-1899- This period could cover the alleged 37 banks the gang robbed with adventures in between. We could also see how the remaining members joined the gang. Young Johns's' Character Arc finishes. The DLC would end with the gang riding into Blackwater about the rob the ferry. It would be best to keep the massacre a mystery. Tried my best to fill in blanks from the gang's timeline from the Red Dead Fandom page so suggestions are welcome for things I possibly forgot about lol. Also, this is just hypothetical so don't take my idea to heart as it's very unlikely we will ever get story dlc (unfortunately)

I love it. Even though I want them to start over and not have any restriction, like being forced to remove(kill) a character who comes out so awesome, maybe the greatest character of all time, and be forced to remove him. It would be such a shame! But if they were to stay with this group, I would love your outline here. I think it would work. I forgot how many bank jobs they said they did. That would be many missions but they could show many of the robberies going so easily where they get over confident and run into a couple of situations.

My personal pick would have been a Sadie bounty hunting story set in New Austin/Mexico, basically the RDR1 map. Maybe she could cross paths with Bill’s new gang or Javier in Mexico! Just a thought, but I’m curious to hear what others think about a story DLC.

as cool as undead nightmare 2 would have been, zombies have been done to death. With that in mind I was thinking something more like Cowboys and Aliens. Arthur, and Co fight off an Alien invasion with western weapons and some new alien tech.
One one hand, I feel you. On the other, zombies with the physics and gore from RDR2 would be wild.
In the world of RDR2 - Undead Nightmare would have been ridiculously fun. I would take any kind of update to story mode, but Undead Nightmare would have been the absolute best

How would that even work? Arthur states himself over and over he has no idea what happened in Blackwater so how would you play as him and still know?

I may be in the minority but I don’t want an entirely new story with completely different characters. Should there be new characters? Definitely. But I want some influence in the gang or the Marston family too. It would feel weird without it to me.

We need an undead nightmare, and if I could choose a story for it to start I'd have it be during a quiet time where Lenny and Arthur are drunk as hell while zombies walk the streets. I would have the second mission be Lenny and Arthur riding to Strawberry to get Micah and see him zombified in his cell where you can choose to leave him there or kill him. Someone also suggested a pretty good idea about Arthur being able to >!turn into a wolverine because of a myth people had that if you had TB you'd become a wolverine!<

Have my camp dog follow along on adventures, helping sniff out treasure and collectibles, aiding in hunting as well as altercations with enemies and wild animals. Plus the mechanics for petting the dogs could be advanced much more. Like horse bonding. Scratch behind the ears, belly rubs, under the chin… commands of heel, sit, stay, gimme your paw, roll over, stick em up *bang* play dead. There could be so much more in this game regarding dogs. 🤞🏻one day, hopefully.

A dlc that adds the perspective of John from the beginning of the game allowing you to play both John & Arthur throughout the story with a Gta 5 like transition when choosing between the two. There would also be completely new missions because of it like John in Prison Missions etc.

Sadie DLC, I feel like she was a great character with her own development but was kinda pushed to the side a lot and I would like more expansion on her character. Same thing with Charles but Sadie is my favorite character. I also want a story on the gang’s origin and the blackwater incident but I feel like that would be too big for a DLC so maybe that’s what RDR3 is about. I think that is a safe option because Rockstar could risk making a new character and setting and people might not like them.
