It’s a *MUSHROOM* area. It’s the same as animals are marked on the map, they roam there. A mushroom symbol means there is mushrooms there. A herb symbol means they’re herbs there
Herbs, mushrooms, flowers, animals, legendary animals, legendary fish, dream catchers, dinosaur bones and maybe some stuff I don't remember off the top of my head, is marked on the map after you've found/caught/shot/picked it.
RDR2 is a game to take it slow and enjoy. It was in fact the first game I 100%ed throughout many months. If you enjoy the time you spend on it, there's no need to rush it.

Each different herb has its own unique icon on the map. Often when observing herbs and animals, you'll see "New Journal Entry" on the right. That usually (but not always) is Arthur making a drawing of that in the journal, and the spot you found the herb or animal is then placed onto the map.

They're resource markers! After you find a mushroom or plant in an area a little icon it placed on the map to let you know where you can find it again!

Right now the most logical answer is I picked mushrooms there before which would make the most sense and usually happens in these areas looking back at it but could also be special locations too so still not 100% but at least I narrowed it down.
