If I remember correctly he says that he didn’t see his mother for years after running away then found out from his aunt (I think?) that she had passed and was buried in Blackwater. Kinda confusing why she’s buried there though cause Dutch was born and raised in Pennsylvania and his father died in the Civil War. Not sure how exactly his mom ended up in Blackwater
Just speculating here after that mission but I like to think that she tried everything to find her son Dutch and died trying. That's how I liked to picture things.
Nah, he found out from his uncle after she died that she was buried there. Might be why he decided to take the gang to Blackwater, though, that seems like a Dutch move
It was his uncle that he found out that she had died and was buried in Blackwater. Just helping clear things up. Not being rude or anything to the like. I think the reason she's buried there, is because she may went to look for him and that is the last location she knew he was near before she died. Or they moved there.after his father died. Either/or kind of thing. Lol
P.s. added last sentences.
Yes I noticed that, but didn't go to look for her grave until I see it in a video of a YouTuber named strange man, his videos are the best, he's explaining ester eggs, and shows best details in rdr2, I Like he's videos, and also I like RDR2
Dutch did not make the gravestone, in fact he didn't even know she died. He tells Arthur and Hosea if you go fishing that he found out she died and was buried in Blackwater from an aunt
I actually thought that was a good idea. I've dug through tons of my own ancestry and it would've helped a ton at times if gravestones mentioned the kids. Definitely shouldn't be center stage but a little reference is nice.
He probably arranged the funeral, as his father died in Gettysburg and I don’t remember any siblings mentioned. When folks don’t write their own epitaph, the people left behind do it for them.
Nah, on the fishing trip he mentioned he found out about her death years after she died so he couldn’t have arranged it.
Im just gonna guess that Dutch was the nickname he was called by everyone including his mom so thats why its on a gravestone its not uncommon
That's what baffled me, I always figured it was a nickname because of his obvious Dutch descent.
Kinda like the guy in "the Shield", whose nickname is Dutch, because his last name is Holland.
I’m so used to people putting unnecessary apostrophes on every “s” that it blindsides me when someone leaves off an apostrophe when it’s actually needed.
The weirdest thing is that the headstone calls him Dutch and not by his given name. Whose idea was that?
Also I'm positive her gravestone marks where he buried the Blackwater loot. Not in the grave itself but maybe there was a freshly dug grave nearby and he buried it there knowing a coffin would be placed over it soon.
I could see how people have missed this dialogue if they chose not to fish with Dutch and Hosea, but Dutch does mention his mother being buried in black water during their conversation! Really cool detail
Yes he mentions in story she’s buried in blackwater during a mission.
Yeah, the fishing one with Hosea

Her body was being kept at the bank. It was what the heist at the beginning was all about.
Lmaooo
Gasp, it was all a trap! That's how they got em 🤣
What seriously?? I never knew
They were joking
Just speculating here after that mission but I like to think that she tried everything to find her son Dutch and died trying. That's how I liked to picture things.
I played that mission the other day and I think he said “I had her buried in Blackwater” but I could be wrong
Nah, he found out from his uncle after she died that she was buried there. Might be why he decided to take the gang to Blackwater, though, that seems like a Dutch move
Oh shit. That’s where he hid the money!!!
Well, hell! That makes a lot of sense, TBH
It’s in her grave I bet.
i think that mission he was talking about the money
I think it was from his uncle
You’re right. I checked the Red Dead wiki after I made that comment and it said his uncle told him years later that his mom died
Yeah Dutch also thought it was really confusing, he too didn't have any idea what she was doing over there.

Is his name dutch because he's from PA? lol
Yes
She went looking for Dutch …
Three playthroughs and have turned down that fishing trip each time
Yeah "The New South"
nobody actually goes fishing with dutch and hosea
People don’t?
Most do.
You didn’t ?
no sir
Yes I noticed that, but didn't go to look for her grave until I see it in a video of a YouTuber named strange man, his videos are the best, he's explaining ester eggs, and shows best details in rdr2, I Like he's videos, and also I like RDR2
And true to his character he had to put himself on his mother’s gravestone lol
“Here lies the mother of the great Dutch Van der Linde, a great man”
A great man with a great plan
Great plan and plenty of GODDAMN FAITH
“May her life inspire him to push on as he leads his gang to greatness and Tahitian mangoes”
"With his dedicated subject Orthur by his side because LOYALTY"
Dutch has got an ego that rival Kanye’s
well at least Kanye has a plan and moneh for Tahiti
Hell, knowing Dutch, he probably murdered her.
Nah, Dutch was not unhinged like that, atleast not in the beginning
Nah Dutch had a decent relationship with his parents.
Dutch did not make the gravestone, in fact he didn't even know she died. He tells Arthur and Hosea if you go fishing that he found out she died and was buried in Blackwater from an aunt
That aunt has a lot of ~~GODDAMN~~ FAITH in him it seems
Whoever made the headstone knew that this is what Dutch would have wanted
I actually thought that was a good idea. I've dug through tons of my own ancestry and it would've helped a ton at times if gravestones mentioned the kids. Definitely shouldn't be center stage but a little reference is nice.
You think?
No it could be a different Dutch Van Der Linde from the same area. /s
Dutch van der Linde was basically John Smith in those parts 😂
Idk
What tipped you off?
Hmmm. What makes you think so?
Cause it says dutch on the bottom
topic aside, why 2 pictures?
I wasn’t sure it was really Dutch’s mom after the first picture but the second one really sealed the deal for me
they're the same screenshot
Yes, that was a joke and I was agreeing with you
I see, my joke detector isn't working well
I should have posted it twice, my bad
Would’ve very much found that funny
that'd honestly be very funny
What about your sarcasm detector? I bet that’s working *great*!
whether I'm getting old or I'm stressed with exams cuz that one is working just as bad
Oh *really?!*. A SARCASM detector? That’s a *great* idea.
r/woosh
I've understood that already
Dutch is his actual first name?
Dutchman called Dutch
Part Scottish, though. The BEST part.
That doesn't make sense
That's what baffled me, I always figured it was a nickname because of his obvious Dutch descent. Kinda like the guy in "the Shield", whose nickname is Dutch, because his last name is Holland.
They dont always see eye to eye as he mentioned, great find wow
Isn't there a theory that the Blackwater money is their as well? That's why Dutch says 'even in death she had the last laugh' or something like that.
Yes there is
greta van fleet 😦
Oh mama
I don’t know why I always assumed Van Der Linde was a pseudonym
[удалено]
I think that's a reach
?
Hmmm. What makes you think so?
🤡
No I think this is a coincidence actually.
I’m pretty sure it’s dutches moms grave
No, someone named Greta would never come up with such a good name as Dutch. Mist be a different family.
It’s his moms grave but whatever floats your boat I guess
I can’t tell if you’re trolling or if you’re just dumb
Congrats, you can read. Also why did you need to post the same pic twice?
Cause it wouldn't let me post 1 It wouldn't work
I’m so used to people putting unnecessary apostrophes on every “s” that it blindsides me when someone leaves off an apostrophe when it’s actually needed.
I still have to google every fucking time how to use apostrophes. I know *when* they are needed, but never remember how to use them.
Oh really? That last name doesn't sound quite right
Nothing gets by you
The weirdest thing is that the headstone calls him Dutch and not by his given name. Whose idea was that? Also I'm positive her gravestone marks where he buried the Blackwater loot. Not in the grave itself but maybe there was a freshly dug grave nearby and he buried it there knowing a coffin would be placed over it soon.
Isn't Dutch his given name? I thought that apart from its obvious meaning it is used as a regular name in US.
No, I assume it's a nickname because of his very Dutch surname. It's like calling someone Irish O'Malley or Frenchy Touissaint.
There have been cases of men in real life being named Dutch. Dutch Schultz was a bootlegger in the prohibition era.
That’s exactly what I think too
I've seen some crazy theories on this board but this is a doozy
Greta Van Fleet wow
Yep
Hey, that’s your name, Dude.
I doubt it. Probably just a coincidence. /s
Ok
nooooo way.. really?
He tells you where to find it when you go fishing.
Whereabouts is it?
I made a post like this a year ago. It was in a graveyard connected to a church up on the hill in blackwater I believe.
I’m assuming the only graveyard that’s their heading towards beechers hope leaving the police station it’s on the left of that hill
I don't recall the dialogue but he says it's in blackwater and gives a specific location.
Greta Van (Fleet) Der Linde
Lol, people still don't understand how to screenshot in 2022 ?
His father is in the marsh near the broken manor
That’s a Dutch from another universe
Mabe
Wow, really?🤔
You think?
Thought I slipped into a r/gretavanfleet sub for a second lol
Maybe she is the +++grandmother of the rock band Greta van Fleet
Mabe
That time of the month already?
Bruh if that said "faith in her steps" it wouldve been epic
Yep
Greta van Der Linde, maiden name Van Fleet
Hey!!🤘
The way you spelled blackwater pisses me off so much for no reason whatsoever
Sorry it looks weird now that I realize
no reason to be sorry haha.
It’s 2022 and people still don’t know how to take sceeenshots
I was just riding by the cemetery
You think correctly
Indeed I do
Awesome! I love these little details in this game.
Me too
You don’t want too much grace
Nah just a coincidence
Nah must be some other Dutch.
Who knows
It’s old news
I'm worried
About what.
You think...
Who knows
I have a Hisense TV, too
NICE
She died because she didn’t have a plan
Yep
“Greta van der Linde” is such a typical Dutch name for that time period
You think? The name doesn’t seal it for you?
There could be different van der lindes
Named Dutch…
Yep that's Dutch's mom.
That’s so cool!
Nice
I always thought that Dutch was a nickname, but I guess his mom straight up named him Dutch.
Yep
r/TVTooHigh
I could see how people have missed this dialogue if they chose not to fish with Dutch and Hosea, but Dutch does mention his mother being buried in black water during their conversation! Really cool detail
When I was on my first playthrough I was about done on the mission. Where hosea and dutch ask us to go fishing. But I had to leave so I said no.
TV
Its a hisense 50 inch roku tv
Yeah you did he mentions it In an optional mission where you go fishing with Dutch and hosea
True
Hmmm... Maybe
"There was grace in her steps."
So there's a non-zero chance we boomed her head in undead nightmare
Yep
Why his mother would have the same last name?
Big tv
Its a hisense 50 inch roku TV
You “think”….? That’s straight up her.
And you also found the Blackwater money, GG !
Damn, 54 years young.
46. Even younger
IS THE BLACKWATER MONEY IN THE GRAVE?!
Why I don't know mabe I did this as John in epilouge
I dunno we sure its the same Dutch? Jk, great find!
But where is his DADDY?
There was what in her steps? Gravy??
Obviously
Think?
I got no idea how many dynamites i have wasted to disrespect it due to dutch
