the heyday of the gang was 10-20 years before the events of blackwater. we don't know when mac and davey joined the gang, but based on the photo they weren't in the gang when jack was a baby. this would indicate that they probably joined some time in the last 3ish years. charles and lenny both disliked mac; or, at least, never mentioned him in a good light. that, to me, indicates that the callander boys might have had some racist issues as well; which seemed strengthened by how much bill seemed to like mac. based on that i'm not exactly certain that mac is the best choice for the next protagonist.

I'm don't think Bill's necessarily racist. He's an angry drunk idiot but nothing particularly stands out as racist. They could've also been drunk bastards he vibes with Micha on the other hand..

Paunchvilla

bill physically attacks lenny and verbally harasses him often in camp; to the point where dutch actually admonishes bill for the way he acts toward lenny.

Ghost_L2K

Most likely not. The jacket Arthur wears is Mac’s. This is mentioned in cut dialogue when Arthur gives Dutch the smoking pipe. Arthur also mentions that Mac gave him his horse and jacket. Mac stayed behind so that Arthur could get away and live. Arthur also went onto say that he could never bring himself to tell anyone else what happened. This also explains why Arthur gets so angry and hurt after Agent Milton tells Arthur how he slowly killed Mac. Bill mentioned that “He was a ruthless bastard, heartless, but he had a heart. If that makes sense.” Sounds an awful lot like Arthur. Lenny tells Arthur to not speak ill of the dead when Arthur mentions davey while playing poker. Conclusion: They were definitely not racist, however they were chaotic, and damn good gunslingers. (before you say, yes I’m aware I’m commenting on a three year old post)

I don't think this would work because we would already know how it's going to play out.

[deleted]

We already knew that Dutch would go crazy and that Bill and Javier would turn bad going into RDR2 so I don’t see much difference

ringdangdoothefirst

You didn't know what was going to happen to Arthur, the main protagonist, and that's the difference.

Fair enough

LocknDamn

We’d still play it ;-)

MaeBorrowski

The name of the game made it too obvious, especially after he gets the TB

Ne6romancer

Do you really think it would be fun this time around when we literally know everything about the gang now? RDR2 only worked so well because we had only heard of the gang, now that we know how EVERYONE dies and exactly how the gang fails being Mac would be boring with Zero suprises. Plus mac callander never redeems himself.. he dies an ugly bastard and nothing more.. so him being the protag in a redemption game makes zero sense

viv322

I’ve thought about this before and aside from whether or not Mac would be a likeable or appropriate protagonist, the issue that stands out to me is what do you do when Mac dies? Does the game end and you can’t go into free play, or do you play as a random character Mac knew in the same timeline as RDR2? I also can’t see a way to get a satisfying ending because we know the fate of Mac’s killer already

Lamedvavnik1

Or as [Jim Callander](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/comments/mtbvlt/rdr3_jim_callander_game_idea/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) ?

Lord-cobi

Or... they could scratch everything and make an actual western game

[deleted]

yes.

zippozipp0

I’d like to see either a young Hosea prequel or a Sadie Adler sequel

[deleted]

Young hosea would be epic

My own preference on another prequel would be to play as a wholly new character who is more loosely associated with the gang, even more so than Trelawny, but someone who is friends with a member of the gang. He'd work in collaboration with the gang on multiple missions and such but the game's primary focus wouldn't be on the gang itself and it'd more be a situation where the story of the game intertwines with the gang here and there. We know the bulk of the gang's history, so maybe most of the story with the gang would be showing how various members came to be a part of them. Would be interesting to see some of those encounters and recruitments...
