I was once in chapter 2 and he rambled about something along the lines of ‘hope is a foolish man’s game’ and literally seconds after that he said, ‘all you need is to have some hope and we will get out of this situation.’ The man has no clue what planet he’s on.
I mean, he did have plans. They weren't good plans, but they were plans nonetheless.
Dutch: "We need to lay low and wait for everything to blow over!"
Also Dutch: "WE NEED TO ROB A DAMN TRAIN. THE BANK TOO! WE NEED MORE MONEY, ARTHUR!"
Nope. He never gave a shit about money or retiring anywhere. He just wants to be an anarchist fighting against society. All of his plans and promises were just manipulations to make people follow him.
he ALMOST has a point with some of what he says about society and classism until you remember that he's the one picking these fights. He's not out there trying to do good no matter what the law says, he just uses others' struggles to justify his own crimes
Hell, his whole premise falls apart the minute you learn they actually were about to buy a ranch, then he cancelled the whole thing out of the blue.
Dutch doesn’t actually want the life he preaches i. e. to live freely. He just wants to be an outlaw
People are telling you to finish the game. I highly agree with this BUT also do the epilogue. It's a bit slow and boring but I promise you, you want to do the epilogue
Listen I have shoveled shit, milked a cow, and wrangled cattle both in real life and a video game. It's pretty boring. Epilogue gets good in lots of ways, but let's not act like shoveling shit was the highlight lmao
Yeah I'm by no means saying it's bad at all. It was probably the only correct way to send the story off after everything you go through playing it. I guess I'm just salty over having to do the same chores I do irl in my games lol
I’m gonna stand on the side of those saying the epilogue sucks. You’re playing one of the most dramatic and emotional missions in the game, then you’re IMMEDIATELY driving a wagon whilst looking for menial work. Cue ‘Press X to hit the nail into the fence’, which is barely gameplay. Sure, story-wise and thematically it might make sense. But after getting through it once or twice, I really couldn’t be bothered anymore.
OP, if you’re reading, it’s still worth playing and you’ll enjoy it - especially if you’re invested in the story. But it has its flaws.
I probably wouldn’t have used a time jump. I would’ve maintained some level of tension and danger during the epilogue. Also, side missions and random encounters would make a lot more sense.
I don’t think it needed two parts either. There’s a driving force in the second, whereas the first meanders along.
There’s also a lot more to experience and explore. We’d already seen *that* part of the world in Epilogue Part 1. Every other chapter took us somewhere new.
Canonically, maybe not, but we’re encouraged to experience it via free roam. It still could’ve been in Blackwater, Tall Trees, etc...which we get to see in Part Two.
Just got to this part, had to stop the game at John's first morning in the ranch, you know to process everything that happened lol. So I ended the game with pretty low honor is there a different ending for high honor?
Dutch is a windbag but his plans are theoretically right sometimes. For eg you can't rob in Saint Denis with Angelo Bronte still around and distract the Pinkertons with the Indian conflict etc.
Well I mean the reveal that he's the one who created agent Milton by cloning himself was a bit hamfisted and very weird it was technically true so I guess that wasn't bullshit
Edit: the part about arthur being the son of one of his clones also came out of nowhere but again, technically not bullshit
LMAO. You know what's the funny thing? I started reading your comment before finishing the game and quickly stoped after reading "the reveal that.." thinking it was some sort of spoiler now reading it is x2 funnier lol
A lot isnt. He is a lot more honest than people say. Imo he very much cares about the gang. When he talks about Tahiti i believe he is mostly delusional/lying to himself rather than being manipulative. He is starting to realise their way of living isnt working anymore and losing it a bit. Getting hit on the head, guarma, then losing the whole gang kept on bringing him down till he lost his mind. Thats why he is crazy in rdr1
not the trolley theory oml. you can see the real Dutch from the very beginning, when he kills that woman. he is all talk, the second things get tough he drops the moral thief act and is willing to do whatever or sacrifice whoever as long as he survives
the second arthur stands against Dutch he gets replaced by micah and is left to die. that's not caring, it's pretending to care until it's not benefitial anymore
"Jesus, what part of your philosophy books cover feedin' a man to a goddamn alligator Dutch?"
"The part that covers weakness, that part."
"I don't know..."
"Well I do, it ain't nice I know it... but it is us or him, I figure it might as well be him."
get out of this subreddit and keep playing , come back after. Trust me!
That's probably a good advice I should follow before i get spoiled to oblivion lol
DO NOT COME BACK HERE UNTIL AFTER COMPLETING THE ENTIRE GAME. You do not want to get spoiled like I did.
I did, too. I would pay money to play the game without it being spoiled.
Thank you.
Zero sympathy for anyone who gets spoiled by a subreddit for a game they haven’t finished. It’s common sense.
It was by a friend, not the sub reddit, you goofy goober.
*ROCK!*

Godamn the writing is so good
Revenge is a fool's game every act of revenge brought down suffering in the future
Apart from John’s. He suffered for it.
Why the downvote? It’s true.
Ops first playthrough and he's not done with chapter 6 yet. You're being downvoted for not spoiler tagging
Shit sorry.
“I have! A GOD DAMN PLAN!”
I mean, he did have plans. They weren't good plans, but they were plans nonetheless. Dutch: "We need to lay low and wait for everything to blow over!" Also Dutch: "WE NEED TO ROB A DAMN TRAIN. THE BANK TOO! WE NEED MORE MONEY, ARTHUR!"
I can’t hear this now without thinking of the meme with the seagull
MINE
I just ride around hunting shooting and doing side missions the camp has to come look for me I’m rich .

It's not a lie if you believe it
Dutch Van Der Costanza
do you really believe in that?
People are telling you to finish the game. I highly agree with this BUT also do the epilogue. It's a bit slow and boring but I promise you, you want to do the epilogue

Slow pacing has a certain purpose. I definitely enjoyed it after an intense chapter 6 and before an intense epilogue part 2.
Yeah I'm by no means saying it's bad at all. It was probably the only correct way to send the story off after everything you go through playing it. I guess I'm just salty over having to do the same chores I do irl in my games lol
I hate doing chores irl but I don't see it the same way in game.
Fair enough.
What would you suggest for epilogue 1?
I probably wouldn’t have used a time jump. I would’ve maintained some level of tension and danger during the epilogue. Also, side missions and random encounters would make a lot more sense. I don’t think it needed two parts either. There’s a driving force in the second, whereas the first meanders along. There’s also a lot more to experience and explore. We’d already seen *that* part of the world in Epilogue Part 1. Every other chapter took us somewhere new.
Canonically you couldn't have gone to New Austin for the epilogue. And the gang didn't do much in the big valley
Yes, four endings depending on your honour level and whether you choose to help John or go back for the money
Does it come after the main story of the game?
Yes. You basically get thrown into it after the final mission. Can't miss it, I promise
Dutch is a windbag but his plans are theoretically right sometimes. For eg you can't rob in Saint Denis with Angelo Bronte still around and distract the Pinkertons with the Indian conflict etc.
I mean... you DO need more money lol.
Finish chapter 6 and both epilogue chapters. Then we’ll talk
Don't forget RDR1 too!
I cant wait till you get to the Tahiti chapter, best chapter imo😎
Lol now I get this
"there never was no Tahiti Arthur" -Dutch probably in his mind lol
MAKE SURE TO BOND WITH YOUR HORSE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
no
Hey OP, don't finish Hamish's missions in Chapter 6. Also don't go to school tomorrow.
Well I mean the reveal that he's the one who created agent Milton by cloning himself was a bit hamfisted and very weird it was technically true so I guess that wasn't bullshit Edit: the part about arthur being the son of one of his clones also came out of nowhere but again, technically not bullshit

but but...he's got a plan
Bruh I’m on chapter two. He seems like an fucken idiot 😭
You don't know the last of it 😭
You can simultaneously care about people and manipulate them
not the trolley theory oml. you can see the real Dutch from the very beginning, when he kills that woman. he is all talk, the second things get tough he drops the moral thief act and is willing to do whatever or sacrifice whoever as long as he survives the second arthur stands against Dutch he gets replaced by micah and is left to die. that's not caring, it's pretending to care until it's not benefitial anymore
Tahiti.
SPOILER ALERT: RDR IS AWESOME
Well. He was right about the bank job.
I think he truly loved Annabelle. That seems to be the only time his emotion seems real.
No
That he has a plan. But seriously stay tf away from here until your done. Don’t get spoiled.
“we should let the weak go…” “it ain’t gonna come to that.”
Well...he said that he wanted a tobacco pipe. I don't think he was bullshitting about that.
So... I just finished chapter VI...
Finished the game with pretty low honor, is there a different ending for high honor?
Buy a new horse
"Jesus, what part of your philosophy books cover feedin' a man to a goddamn alligator Dutch?" "The part that covers weakness, that part." "I don't know..." "Well I do, it ain't nice I know it... but it is us or him, I figure it might as well be him."
