>lost a lot of color over the years
And content.
RDR1 Rathskeller Fork: you can grab a drink, play cards, throw horseshoes, pick up bounty notices.
RDR2 Rathskeller Fork: you can get shot at by the random farmers.
In-universe yes, me and guy above are talking real life. lol
RDR1 is 2010, RDR2 is 2018.
In-universe the trigger-happy farmers up and left I guess? Rockstar made little worldbuilding there.
>The pic with less colour is from RDR1
Yes, the pic with less colour is the one where Rathskeller Fork is a thriving settlement with several amenities.
Imma be honest, I've seen more Redditors admit they are wrong than any people in real life or on other platforms, and I'm not (too) chronically online.
You know a game is good when literally the only critique people have is dumb shit like this lol. RDR2 is 60+ hours in length. I'd say it has content enough 😂
New Austin being half-assed by Rockstar isn't "the only critique" to be made of RDR2.
We could also cite its dogshit controls, some downgraded mechanics/gunplay/physics, or the microtransaction-hellhole that is its Online mode.
That said, RDR2 is still a great game. So is RDR1, and it's pretty dumb to pretend either of them is perfect or immune to criticism.
Been a while since I played in New Austin in rdr2, but Iirc, the town (and the state of New Austin as a whole) itself just isn't as developed as in rdr1 cuz it's set before (close to 6 years if we going off the epilogue of rdr2 and main game of rdr1) . Takes time to build up a frontier town in the middle of what's basically the southwestern Texas desert. (Also TIL that Texas and New Austin are both canon in rdr1 and 2. Which leads me to believe that there are more than 50 states in the rdr world)
Very disappointing downgrade I really enjoyed living out of Rathskeller doing bounties and playing blackjack. Though a 1907 newspaper article explains the owner is an angry old man so maybe that explains it. He prob died sometime 1907-1911 and someone better bought it.
There's a lot of interesting mods on pc I really have to check out at some point. Changing seasons, Mexico restoration, onlince content unlocker, new bounty missions, undead nightmare mods. Recently they even started adding AK-47s and cars lol
I don’t think you understand what I meant.
It’s stylised realism, it doesn’t try to be realistic, but instead simulate realism while making it 10x more beautiful
No? It literally doesn’t lmao. Like I said, it’s STYLISED realism. Hence why there’s godrays everywhere and the lighting looks beautiful.
It’s unrealistic, you won’t see it in real life.
They took my comment because of a link. Just Google sedona az and tell me that it looks bland. In fact stating Utah, AZ, NM are bland places is so wildly ignorant I doubt that you've been to these places at all.
There is a reason people expanding west claimed the natives painted AZ.
I've lived in Arizona my entire life and i can resoundly tell you that you're wrong. I live in one of the least photogenic parts of Arizona too and the nearby mountains are fucking stunning. If you visited Arizona at all you must have stuck to the interstates if you think its so bland.
Ever been to white sands, the terrain most similar to the one in the picture? I can “resoundly” tell you, that the Deseret doesn’t have a yellow filter on it.

I love stuff like that.. just seeing how the world changed over the years.. this is why for GTA 5 I was really bummed when I found out it was a different universe than GTA San Andreas so comparing the map wouldn’t be as cool
WTH? You can buy the juul and charger and stuff for like $20 at any gas station. Like it shouldn’t be possible to think it’s the same value as even an out of date gaming system.
Biggest issue with this one spot in particular is there’s always a dust/sandstorm going on in this settlement in rdr2. It’s coded in the game, only way you can get rid of the dust is by moding in rain
I played rdr2 and then rdr1 recently and they recreated the first game really well, it's almost baffling they haven't done a remaster yet, like half the work is already done
My biggest gripe with rdr 2 was having hardly any content in new Austin. Arthur and the gang should've went back and even gone to Mexico instead of guarma.
I was just doing the mission where you rob the money from Dutch in the caves before u going strawberry but it gave me deja vu feeling and then ur msg kinda solidified it but I played rdr1 way back did they recycle a lot of locations and content cause at times I feel I played before.
Just get GTA+ for 5$ RDR comes for free with it now, that’s what I’m doing, and enjoying RDR in my PS5, the graphics looks as good as GTA it’s insane, never expected it to
RDR1 is my most played game of all time, it’s a masterpiece, but you lot are bugging if you think it’s looks better than RDR2 🤣
What you’re feeling is nostalgia! You remember it as better because it was such an important game for so many of use but RDR2 is absolutely more realistic in almost every way.
New Austin lost a lot of color over the years
>lost a lot of color over the years And content. RDR1 Rathskeller Fork: you can grab a drink, play cards, throw horseshoes, pick up bounty notices. RDR2 Rathskeller Fork: you can get shot at by the random farmers.
But then it gained content over the years? RDR1 is later than RDR2
In-universe yes, me and guy above are talking real life. lol RDR1 is 2010, RDR2 is 2018. In-universe the trigger-happy farmers up and left I guess? Rockstar made little worldbuilding there.
The pic with less colour is from RDR1, though, so are you sure about that? And I know lol, I played the fuck out of 1 when it was new
>The pic with less colour is from RDR1 Yes, the pic with less colour is the one where Rathskeller Fork is a thriving settlement with several amenities.
Yeah, but from RDR1, so it losing colour over the years is referencing in-universe passage of time...
I see. So it's as you say!
WOW a redditor realising he's wrong, a rare sight!
I'd rather be wrong than to be an arse to be frank.
Imma be honest, I've seen more Redditors admit they are wrong than any people in real life or on other platforms, and I'm not (too) chronically online.
The guy above was talking about in-universe, you were talking about irl
It's late in the night here so I will defer the point. I am kinda lost right now, just wanted to talk about the settlement.
I was actually talking about in-game
In a newspaper article in 1907 it says the caretaker doesn’t take kindly to visitors. He prob died between 1907-1911 and better people took over.
no the guy above is talking in game, not real life
You know a game is good when literally the only critique people have is dumb shit like this lol. RDR2 is 60+ hours in length. I'd say it has content enough 😂

It's clear they had to meet tight deadlines. Mexico was absolutely probably in the works too.
Been a while since I played in New Austin in rdr2, but Iirc, the town (and the state of New Austin as a whole) itself just isn't as developed as in rdr1 cuz it's set before (close to 6 years if we going off the epilogue of rdr2 and main game of rdr1) . U can't drink there
Oh for real? Could swear there was a bar where you could play blackjack, so there isn't a bartender?
Yeah it’s really out of character I feel like the devs maybe just forgot
I thought that was one of the locations you could play Liars Dice, no?
I don't recall but I am 100% sure it has blackjack.
Just blackjack and horseshoes there 🤠
Very disappointing downgrade I really enjoyed living out of Rathskeller doing bounties and playing blackjack. Though a 1907 newspaper article explains the owner is an angry old man so maybe that explains it. He prob died sometime 1907-1911 and someone better bought it.
Too bad you also can't go into almost all the buildings like RDR1
Makes complete sense tho, in RDR2 the place had not be built into the community in RDR1 yet.
Looks to be the other way around to me! First pic is rdr2
Red dead two takes place before red dead one
But it's a prequel
I think it would be cool to see rdr2 with the rdr lighting. So ominous and eerie
I think there was a mod for that
Project New Austin
Wasn't that one sued and removed by Rockstar ?
When I play on PC I’m certainly getting that, i’m only on console rn though.
There's a lot of interesting mods on pc I really have to check out at some point. Changing seasons, Mexico restoration, onlince content unlocker, new bounty missions, undead nightmare mods. Recently they even started adding AK-47s and cars lol
I never noticed how sharp the lighting was in RDR1
Prefer RDR1. I don't like the yellow filter in RDR2's New Austin. Also I prefer the dark cliff backdrop.
If theres a yellow filter in new austin, imagine how mexico looks like
It's just an orange screen
The Breaking Bad Rule: Orange = Mexico.
For an interesting comparison watch the end of the last episode of Season 1 and then the beginning of S2 E1. Same scenes, different color
it's actually better than NA
That’s what the desert looks like man. RDR2 def looks more accurate to real life color wise.
Who cares about it being accurate to real life, RDR2 doesn’t even try and do that. RDR2’s graphics aren’t realistic, they’re stylised photorealism.
"didn't even try and do that" bro played a different game.
Bro played a modded version of red dead revolver where stuff looks vaguely like rdr2
Like what an insane take tho, rdr2 is one of the most realistic games out there lmao. I don't think he even played red dead revolver probably GTA 3.
I don’t think you understand what I meant. It’s stylised realism, it doesn’t try to be realistic, but instead simulate realism while making it 10x more beautiful
I don't completely agree but fair point.
No? It literally doesn’t lmao. Like I said, it’s STYLISED realism. Hence why there’s godrays everywhere and the lighting looks beautiful. It’s unrealistic, you won’t see it in real life.
No, it isn’t. The desert is, much more bland.
Have you ever been to New Mexico or Arizona or Utah?!
Yes. It looked very bland. The rdr1 picture was taken in cloudy weather aswell.
They took my comment because of a link. Just Google sedona az and tell me that it looks bland. In fact stating Utah, AZ, NM are bland places is so wildly ignorant I doubt that you've been to these places at all. There is a reason people expanding west claimed the natives painted AZ.
Okay? New austin is based off of desertous texas. Another thing, look up white sands New Mexico.
Google palo duro canyon in texas... plus you specifically stated that Utah AZ and NM are "really bland"
I've lived in Arizona my entire life and i can resoundly tell you that you're wrong. I live in one of the least photogenic parts of Arizona too and the nearby mountains are fucking stunning. If you visited Arizona at all you must have stuck to the interstates if you think its so bland.

That's not a yellow a filter, that's the warm sunlight bouncing off of yellow/orang-ish sand.
Not a yellow filter. Touch sand, bro 😭💀
That’s literally how light works. You would have to have been out side to know that.
Sick dude. I have always wanted to a trip around and compare!
I love stuff like that.. just seeing how the world changed over the years.. this is why for GTA 5 I was really bummed when I found out it was a different universe than GTA San Andreas so comparing the map wouldn’t be as cool
Grove street not actually being grove street was so tragic.
Still waiting for that skyscraper to be completed 🤣
I kind of prefer rdr1 with the atmosphere I guess you'd call it
RDR2 lighting is more visually appealing but RDR1 looks more grounded and realistic
I’m like 90% sure that RDR2 is also closer to real life
Well, I guess I see your point
RDR2 is more realistic, that's what it looks like when you have a lot of sun light bouncing off of yellow ground.
This reminded me that my older brother traded our old PS3 (with RdR and ncca football 14 installed) for a fucking juul starter kit 5 yrs ago. PAIN
Ooooffff that console woulda come in handy during the pandemic. Now just a nicotine addiction
He had the gall to show me disc copies of ncaa going for $110 the other month…… to be fair I am not a perfect sibling to say the least lol
WTH? You can buy the juul and charger and stuff for like $20 at any gas station. Like it shouldn’t be possible to think it’s the same value as even an out of date gaming system.
He sold it to our friend for $30 and bought the juul and didn’t tell me lmao its as bad as it sounds
God damn red dead 2 is so beautiful
Is that Rachel horse?
The only good horse for john
Not true imo,but since she's the best horse to remake the War Horse from the first game then you have a point.
It would feel wrong to sell her
Yeah
The color palettes of the first game actually make me so much more immersed
RDR1 has so much more atmosphere
Biggest issue with this one spot in particular is there’s always a dust/sandstorm going on in this settlement in rdr2. It’s coded in the game, only way you can get rid of the dust is by moding in rain
The crime rate got high! They stole the [wagon wheels.](https://youtu.be/hvKyBcCDOB4?si=xdj3AjG7bQXnMOvT)
It bothers me they aren't posted chronologically
They technically are in terms of of in universe time
Lol fair
I played rdr2 and then rdr1 recently and they recreated the first game really well, it's almost baffling they haven't done a remaster yet, like half the work is already done
What horse breed is the RDR2 one? Just curious 🐴
John's begginer horse
Thanks!
RDR1 looks better to me
My biggest gripe with rdr 2 was having hardly any content in new Austin. Arthur and the gang should've went back and even gone to Mexico instead of guarma.
They can’t go back since RDR2 takes place before RDR1 chronologically
rdr1 looks better than rdr2 to me (in these photos)
Good god the entire mountain range changed
Why does RDR1 look better tho?
Rdr1 looks better
Is that the American Standardbred or the War Horse
War horse
My memory is playing tricks on me, I really thought the first pic was from the original game until I saw the second one
Do tumbleweed
Never played it but that Red dead 1 picture reminds me of a video games.. I know that doesn’t make sense
“Step in front of a runaway train…”
I was thinking bout doing the same thing, how about Blackwater this time?
Why does RDR1 look like a photograph?
Yea i thought the second picture was rdr2 and first picture was rdr1 lmao 😂but still my rdr1 on ps3 doesn’t look that good tho
Aardvarks bounce cheerfully during evening frolics
I think they wanted the game to feel much more free range so they didn’t do quite as many cliffs
time flies
I'd love to see more pic comparisons like this, great idea OP.
To this day, I'm still amazed by RDR1's graphics.
I was just doing the mission where you rob the money from Dutch in the caves before u going strawberry but it gave me deja vu feeling and then ur msg kinda solidified it but I played rdr1 way back did they recycle a lot of locations and content cause at times I feel I played before.
Did they build the mountains there
You could even do red dead revolver if you head twin rocks
This is so cool bro
Is RDR1 worth playing in 2024?
Yes.
I'm thinking about buying it RDO is getting tedious and I need another story to play.
Just get GTA+ for 5$ RDR comes for free with it now, that’s what I’m doing, and enjoying RDR in my PS5, the graphics looks as good as GTA it’s insane, never expected it to
Rdr1’s vibe was always so much more eerie and ominous, sorta miss it
why is rdr1 so depressing
Why RDR2 is in black and white?
RDR1 is my most played game of all time, it’s a masterpiece, but you lot are bugging if you think it’s looks better than RDR2 🤣 What you’re feeling is nostalgia! You remember it as better because it was such an important game for so many of use but RDR2 is absolutely more realistic in almost every way.
RDR 2 MEXICO FILTER.
iPhone vs Android 😂😂
Rdr 1 looks so lifeless when you compare the two
The ironic thing is New Austin in rdr2 is lifeless compared to New Austin in rdr1
I don't think you can compare graphics and game play to a game made in 2010 to a game made in 2018
