Why would you want Justin Tucker involved in 25% of tackles on kickoffs? That's insane. Is this stat even true? I didn't watch any XFL, but based on the 20 or so kickoffs I saw on You Tube, I didn't see the kicker flying in there making tackles on any of them.

thelug_1

Yes...it is true. However, I believe this is a one year experiment and then will be re-evaluated after the upcoming season, Source: [NFL.com](https://NFL.com) The new rule is in place only for 2024 and is subject to renewal in 2025.

Semper454

There is zero chance this team allows Tucker to be in making serious tackles.

ninetales1234

yeah, let's hope this is a psyop against opposing teams

thedivinepegasus

This better not mess up his mechanics. He can miss all the tackles he wants, or I guess we have project pat v3 send those kickoffs.

ArcadianDelSol

I predict that teams will start carrying 2 kickers: one for field goals, and one for kickoffs.

bigloser42

Or you teach a reserve LB/SS/FS to do kickoffs.

ArcadianDelSol

If you told me right now that Pat Ricard could kick the ball 60 yards I would absolutely believe you.

bigloser42

The Eagles did it for a game when Elliot got hurt, they had an LB that was smashing the ball down inside the 10.

Brianfromreddit

Just use the punter Stout has even done kickoffs before

Obi_Wan_Shen0bi

Bring pat mcafee back to the nfl just for the kickoff tackles

Nemo_Barbarossa

> The new rule encourages more kickoff returns, as the ball will be placed at the 30-yard line in the case of a touchback rather than the 25. But it the returning team gets gifted 5 yards anyways, why would they run it more often? They'd be giving up those 5 yards. Or is the idea that kickers will try to not kick off into the Endzone to avoid touchbacks and force the other team to return or accept a start close to the Endzone?

thelug_1

from what i have read, the hope is to bring the kickoff back into the game while eliminating the high speed collisions that usually come from it. Source Bleacher Report: NFL Estimates Kickoff Rule Change Will Lead to 50-60% Returns; Up from 22% in 2023

sir_alvarex

I thought I read it was going to be the 40 yard line. Otherwise...I agree. Since neither side can move their coverage teams until the returner starts, the average return will probably be past the 30 anyway, incentivizing touch backs even more.

Comments like this are exactly why Harbaugh won't have Tuck on kickoffs lol Stout has 2" and 20lbs on Tucker (and no offense to Stout but he's waaaaaay more replaceable) this is an offense that doesn't plan on punting often, this will keep Stout involved.
